ARCHIVED Genetic Testing Inconclusive?
GlutenFreeManna replied to luluo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Two suggestions: Have your thyroid tested and also consider that you may have additional food intolerances. Your symptoms are very similar to what I had prior to going gluten-free soy free and dairy free. Anytime I get a little bit of soy I get extremely tired and have muscle aches and pain. Soybean oil can give me an instant migraine. I also had... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing Inconclusive?

Also wanted to add that if you have celiac diseaes that would NOT rule out your having other autoimmune diseases which could cause the positive ANA. The opposite is actually true. If you have celiac you are MORE LIKELY to have another autoimmune disease as well such as lupus, hashimotos, RA, etc. So whether you have celiac or not doesn't really matter... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing Inconclusive?

Are they looking for RA or Lupus or somehtign else specific with the ANA test? This thread might be helpful to you: A lot of us seem to have positive ANA's but it may or may not have anything to do with celiac. What are your symptoms that lead them to do the ANA test? -

Well I decided to do Strawberry Buckwheat pancakes with blueberry maple syrup, turkey bacon and eggs. Looked in the fridge and saw that we had a half package of un-cooked turkey bacon from the weekend and I don't want it to go bad. We also have about 4 dozen eggs so I might as well use those up. The perfect excuse to make Strawberry pancakes. <... -

Your NP and GI know NOTHING! Oh my, I can't beleive they said the genetic test would be "definitive". First of all havign the most common genes does not diagnose celiac. 30% of the population have the most common genes but only 1% of the population develops active celiac disease. Further complicating this whole thing, what they told you about only having... -
Take your own food or eat before you go and keep a snack in your purse just in case. The buffet likely will be unsafe but there will probably be some safe drinks there that you can have. Get some punch or soda or a safe mixed cocktail and keep the glass in your hand the whole time while people are walking around with apps socializing. People are less likely...

ARCHIVED Suffering For Two Years..
GlutenFreeManna replied to Ashley Rae's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Ashley Rae! I can't help with the finding gluten-free foods in your area but I just wanted to let you know that infertility most often happens with UNTREATED celiac disease. As long as you eat strictly gluten-free you have a good chance of healing and going on to have kids. Since you are young and you have caught this rather early in your life... -

We are in a tiny apartment in the city moving to a townhouse (still in the city but a step up and a better location). We will be allowed to have a grill there and we even bought one already (shh! don't tell my landlord--we didn't buy a propane tank and are keeping it in the box until the move ) since they were on sale for the fourth of July here. I'm very... -

End of this month. I thought of Ambrosia but I'm not sure how to make it dairy and soy free. We often do just mix up canned fruit with fresh or frozen though and make fruit salad. I also have frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries to eat down. hmmm...maybe I'll just skip the chicken tonight and make mixed berry pancakes...Then again I need at least... -

Something with chicken and potatoes....I haven't decided yet! I'm trying to clean out my cupboards and cabinets for a move so we will also have some canned pineapple or canned manderine oranges. I also need to cook some dried pinto beans but we just had red beans and rice last night so I'm trying to space out my beans... -
Contact the airline you will travling on AND the airport you will flying out of and ask them. Seriously. I had always thought that sealed dry food was okay to take through security, but recently (last month) my hubby was flying and told he could not bring a sealed canister of Lays Stax through. They said he either had to toss them or eat them before going...

ARCHIVED Please Tell Me What You Think
GlutenFreeManna replied to 0010xoxotee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are lots of things to eat for breakfast. There's no reason you need to eat "breakfasty" food in the morning. I often have leftovers from dinner. I try to have a balance of protein (meat, beans, peanut butter, eggs) and carbs (fruit, gluten-free bread, rice, potatoes) for breakfast. check out the "what's for breakfast" thread to see what other people... -

Some gluten intolerant people cannot tolerate oats at all, even gluten-free oats. I would drop those first before cutting out all grains. Also be aware that if you are oat-intolerant you may need to also avoid some brands which use gluten-free oats in their facilities. For example I cannot tolerate oats and because of that I also cannot eat anything made... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel But gluten-free
GlutenFreeManna replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
His bloodwork will most likely be negative on a gluten-free diet. Unless you have been feeding him something that you think is gluten-free but really has large amounts of gluten in it. Perhaps you dr thinks that you have not really kept him gluten-free. My own dr thought I was probably not really strict (she implied I probably cheat every now and then... -

This is the way it works at my place too. My place, my game, I will provide gluten-free snacks for all. No gluten is allowed in. We have taken games to others houses as well where we let them provide the drinks and we brought the games and ALL snacks. Our friends have been much more understanding/accomodating I guess. People who are not understanding... -
ARCHIVED Starbucks Can Kiss My ....
GlutenFreeManna replied to Poppi's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Seizures are one of the symptoms I suffered from as well. As far as the oatmeal goes--you may "get away with it" now and then as in your body has no symptoms but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to keep eating it. It's like playing Russian roulette with your health--you just never know when you will get a heavily contaminated batch. Also for some people... -
ARCHIVED Starbucks Can Kiss My ....
GlutenFreeManna replied to Poppi's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi Ray, I just wanted to mention that you should not be eating oatmeal unless it is certified gluten-free oatmeal. Regular oats are processed with wheat and heavily contamianted. Also I very much doubt the rice cripsy treats are the gluten-free variety. They only recently (last month) came out with gluten-free Rice Krispies. The regular ones have... -

ARCHIVED Carry Gene But Not Celiac?
GlutenFreeManna replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
About 30% of people carry the most common genes. But only about 1% of people develop celiac. The gene only asseses your RISK of developing celiac disease. If you have the genes you are at greater risk than if you don't have them. But you can carry the gene and never develop it and you can also NOT have the most common genes but still have celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Weight And Height In Kids
GlutenFreeManna replied to Mummyto3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is not in regards to just kids but I made a post on here asking people how tall they are and answers were all over. Most were on the shorter side but there were plenty of tall diagnosed celiacs too. So I would say you can be any height and any weight and suffer with this disease just as it's possible for some people to have just the skin rash (DH)... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Problem Or Ibs?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Fairy Dancer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's a list of unsafe ingredients: /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ It is best however to startout with the basics of meat, fruit and vegetables and avoid processed gluten-free foods. The reason is that there are no standards/laws for labeling gluten-free in the US. Some companies to avoid that label their items "gluten... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Problem Or Ibs?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Fairy Dancer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IBS is not a diagnosis. it is a set of symptoms and a label they give you when they don't know what causes those symptoms. I was overweight as well and drs told me to eat more whole grains and just exercise more and I wouldn't feel so fatigued. The more wheat I ate the sicker I got until I was bed bound from pain and fatigue. Give the diet a try if you...
