  1. Glad you found a solution! Your bird will probably be healthier and happier too
  2. I think the issue is not with smooth surface or fairly new items that are washed (such as stainless steel). The issue is with pourous items such as wooden spoons and wooden cutting boards OR items that can get scratches with use Or items with many tiny holes and crevices (strainers, mesh sifters, etc). When you consider that it requires a temperature of...
  3. LOL! I had to go to the dentist for the first time in 6 years when I was eating these and broke a tooth. I had just gotten insurance recently and was planning on going anyway, but had been putting it off...boy do I regret that! Fortunately I didn't have any cavities and the dentist could just patch my broken tooth (no root canal) but he did chide me for...
  4. I am very sensitive to cc and I eat Harvestland chicken almost exclusively for my boneless skinless chicken. They advertise it as gluten free and it is cage free/no antibiotics, etc. It is possible that you have a problem with chicken and turkey. I have an allergy to pork and shellfish and the pork allergy showed up abotu the same tiem I started having...
  5. Can anyone reccomend any (free preferably) apps for either an I-Pad or a Droid phone? My husband will have these while he travels for work and he wants to test out gluten free apps so that if I go with him on the next trip we can find restaurants and product information quickly. I'm primarily intersted it a restaurant app since I've been doing this long...
  6. I was going to say the same thing! I broke a tooth eating these. They seem to either be really hard or really crumbly in my experience but they are tasty. Here's a blog entry that has pictures of the boxes so you know what to look for: Open Original Shared Link I have never found the peanut ones, only the almond. If your stores don't carry these...
  7. For some of us, no. A certain percentage of celiacs react to gluten-free oats the same as they do gluten. You might also ask you sister about how they were made--did she use the same scratched up cookie sheets and wooden spoons she uses for wheat flour cookies? Did she use spices (like cinnamon) or sugar that she has had in her kitchen and used for regular...
  8. Okay I know nothing about birds but I did a quick search for "cockatiel food" and saw that a lot of it contains millet (which is gltuen free), peanuts and soybeans. Birds also eat insects and worms in their natural habitat. So perhaps you could make your own food from millet, soybeans and other seeds and if you are really wanting to feed your bird well...
  9. We're going to be looking at buying in the next year or two (as soon as my hubby has been well established at his job and we know it is where we are staying for sure). So I'm sure it will come sooner or later...one of my criteria for a house has always been a big yard so I can have a garden (I currently have a container garden on my patio) and room for ...
  10. Cute! I so wish I could have chickens. I currently rent and I don't think my landlord would take to kindly to it. Maybe someday....
  11. Foods I buy with coupons and sales: Mission corn tortillas canned tuna/pouch tuna frozen veggies (Birdseye, Green Giant, Allens) canned veggies Frozen fruit--Strawberries, blue berries, etc. canned tomatoes (Muir Glen, Hunts, DelMonte, Fumanos) spaghetti sauce (Prego, Classico, Ragu--just check ingredients carefully) canned beans/refried beans salsa...
  12. I would have to agree. When I wrote my post above the Mellow Mushroom was the first gluten-free pizza I had tried so it was pretty good to me. I have since figured out ways to make a much better pizza crust at home. It is nice to have the option of a pizza place where you can get gluten free safely and everyone else can get what they want but the price...
  13. My non-gluten-free husband will go through the drive-thru someplace and then pull into a parking spot to eat in the car. Then he drives home. I do believe the steering wheel has gotten me before when I drove after he had been driving my car. All it takes is for me to rub my eye or somethign and the gluten residue enters via a mucous membrane. Now I make...
  14. Yes. I did the skin prick tests too, however my dr said the blood tests are more accurate and he always does both types. All my skin tests were "negative" --no little circles popped up as big enough to be conclusive-- but they itched like crazy for days afterward. I'm sort of new to the food allergies thing too so I don't know much about the tests. I...
  15. Thank you for the clarification. I am pretty sure my allergy tests were for IgE reactions.
  16. Oh glutonous rice flour is gluten free! Haha, sorry I should have said that first. I think they make it from the sticky rice and that is why it is called "glutenous". the only ingredients in the flour will be rice and maybe water. It seems to stick to the things you are frying better in my experience. And it does get golden brown for me but I also dip...
  17. I might be a rare case but I ended up developing a milk allergy after going gluten free. Actually I think I have always had a mild milk allergy (my mom had to take me off dairy as a toddler) but it just became more pronounced once I went gluten-free. Dizziness doesn't sound like a lactose intolerance unless you mean you get sick to your stomach and that...
  18. I have used glutonous rice flour (AKA sweet rice flour) for fried eggplant and other fried things (chicken, fish, cubed steak) with good results. It seems to stick better than regular rice flour. I have also use the gluten-free Bisquick mix--it worked okay but it's so expensive to end up throwing some out if you don't use every last bit for dredging. ...
  19. Thank you for the thread link! From there I went to the reccomended website backyardchickens.com and I have been reading it for the last hour with interest. I don't even own land, (I currently rent) but if I buy in the near future the possibility of having chickens will now be something to consider. I'm fascinated by it!
  20. I know that is the case for the Celiac panel test but is that true for allergy testing as well? I even asked my Allergist this question on the phone since I have not eaten shellfish for over a decade. He was pretty adamant that a food allergy would show up even if I had not eaten those foods for a very long time.
  21. I do it. See my signature for my food restrictions. I may not save as much as some of the people on that show but I save as much as I can on the things I use. I still have about 10 packages of Mission Corn tortillas in my freezer from the last time there was a coupon out. I think I got them for .16 a package. We eat Mexican quite frequently and that...
  22. It's a small victory but I am really, really happy to at least have gotten a positive wheat allergy test. Finally, I have medical docuamentation to validate the last 15 months I have eaten gluten free and explain why I feel so much better gluten free. The dr did say that the result was a "low positive". He was sort of skeptical that I could have the range...
  23. Really?!? How can they call them free range and organic if they are fed GMO's? That said, I am sensitive to soy and I do not have to buy special eggs. If the eggs are bothering you perhaps it is the egg itself you have a sensitivity to...I really think your best option if you want to know what your chickens are fed is to find a nearby farm that sells...
  24. If you have damage to the villi in your intestines, then you may have trouble digesting lactose when you first go gluten free. The villi produce lactase which breaks down lactose. Once the gluten is removed and is no longer damaging you your intestines will start to heal but you may be lactose intolerant while you heal. Most people that have trouble with...
  25. Yes. I am very sensitive and the smallest amount will make me sick for a week to ten days. Sorry to say this but it sounds like your life is full of gluten landmines. Did you get new pans, wooden spoons, cutting boards, etc? What exactly did your husband use in the chili? Most mainstream tomato soup has wheat in it. Are your spices new or old? Any...
