ARCHIVED Is Gatorade Safe For Celiacs?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Ringo454447's topic in Sports and Fitness
Okay I did a little searching because I was curious. According to this: Open Original Shared Link They changed their formulation in January 2010. They no longer use HFCS, only sucrose. So for the PP that said they react to the HFCS, maybe you can try it again? I don't buy things with HFCS if I can help it. That's why it surprised me. I've been struggling... -
ARCHIVED Is Gatorade Safe For Celiacs?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Ringo454447's topic in Sports and Fitness
Really? Which ones have HFCS? I have several varieties of Gatorade (in the bottles) and none say they have HFCS. They all say they have Sucrose. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Have Kids And Not Work Too?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the reply! Boy I wish I were getting sleep! I'm still suffering from some insomnia. I'm trying to give myself a curfew and I'm able to get in bed by midnight most nights, but I wake up for at least one bathroom break (even with limited liquids around bed time) and my internal clock wakes me up at 6:30 AM almost every day. So on my good days... -
ARCHIVED Blood Panel Positive But Biopsy Normal
GlutenFreeManna replied to kikila44's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From what I have read, the blood tests often give false negatives, but very rarely give false positives. SO based on your blood tests you have celiac. The reasons why the biospy may have come up negative are many: 1. the damage can be patchy and they may have missed it 2. The damage may be in a part of your intestine that endo couldn't reach (I have... -
ARCHIVED How Long To Symptoms Last If ...
GlutenFreeManna replied to jjb1234's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think everyone one is different. My symptoms last anywhere from 3 days to a week, depending on how much gluten I got and other factors like if I have been eating mostly healthy and clean or if I have been indulging in dairy and gluten-free junk food. However my symptoms are MOSTLY neurological with a little bit of gastro distress. They also don't always... -

ARCHIVED Harvestland Rotisserie Chicken
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It took a few hours but my headache is gone now. I'm thinking maybe it was CC from soy somehow instead of gluten. Soybean oil gives me an instant headache. This only listed canola oil in the ingredients. I do use just olive oil at home, so I wonder if my body is reacting canola oil now too. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Have Kids And Not Work Too?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for sharing Sue! I do many of the above you mentioned. I garden and cook almost everything from scratch, I sew small items (last thing I made was shower curtain), and keep my house clean. I also paint, or well I used to. I think I'm going to get back into it for therapy and maybe I can just say I'm a freelance artist (love that term, BTW). My... -
ARCHIVED Have You Read This Article?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Dandelion's topic in Publications & Publicity
The author is an idiot. My favorite part is the quote from the dr. about how 9 out of 10 people that test negative still go on to maintain a gluten-free diet. This alone indicates that there are major problems with the testing! Instead the author seems to make the ASSumption that those people are somehow making up the fact that gluten makes them sick.... -
ARCHIVED Restaurants?

Have her look into this company: Open Original Shared Link They provide gluten-free pizza crusts for The Mellow Mushroom and many other pizza places. I believe they also give info to their vendors on how to avoid cross contamination. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Have Kids And Not Work Too?
GlutenFreeManna posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you've read some of my posts you know I was very ill prior to going gluten free. I was at the point where I couldn't work, I had to drop out of (or take a leave of absence) grad school and at one point my doctor revoked my driving privileges. I have gotten so much freedom back since changing my diet in January. I'm working up to going back to school... -
ARCHIVED Is There Something About The Pacific Northwest?
GlutenFreeManna replied to David in Seattle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just to throw a monkey wrench in your theory, I'm from the Midwest and currently living in the Southeast. I have never even visited the Pacific Northwest. I think we notice people that we have things in common with. I have noticed a number of people from either the midwest or the South on here. Never knew there were many from the Northwest until... -
ARCHIVED Taco Seasoning
GlutenFreeManna replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Nice. The chicken enchilada she made are actually gluten free too (if you get gluten-free corn tortilla and gluten-free sauce). I do something very similar, but I leave out the cheese and put some chilies or some salsa in with the chicken filling to give it lots of flavor. I use a dollop of plain yogurt on top after they are cooked. It's just like sour... -
ARCHIVED Hey! Wait! I Got A New Complaint!
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah I would just try eating several lighter meals like everyone suggested. I don't know anything about the HRT, but perhaps get a second opinion on that. Many of your posts sound like they could be related to really bad menopause symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Harvestland Rotisserie Chicken
GlutenFreeManna posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone had any problems with this chicken? It's labeled gluten free. I have had their plain chicken breasts before and they are really good. Yesterday I was running a bunch of errands and didn't have time to get home to make dinner, so I decided to pick up a whole rotisserie chicken at BJ's. It's made by Harvestland and labeled Gluten Free (as well... -

Connie are you by any chance going through menopause or pre-menopause? There was time when I looked into early menopause because I was trying to figure out what was causing my fertility problems. Anyway, this sounds similar to what I read about...Some women get menopause symptom triggered by eating. Read this hear and see if it sounds familiar: Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Homemade Mayo Recipe
GlutenFreeManna replied to vbecton's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have not tried making it yet (so no recipe), but I have read you can make it with olive oil, but be sure to use LIGHT olive oil, NOT Extra virgin or virgin or regular. Something about the olive oil becoming bitter when it is emulsified. I read that Light olive oil does not become as bitter. But I haven't tried making it yet. I was never a big mayo eater... -

Good Luck! I hate the dentist. Haven't been since I had my wisdom teeth out. (I know I need to go back to one soon though for at least a cleaning.) I ate lots of Jello, chicken broth, juice, applesauce, and ice cream when I had mine out. You probably won't be able to drink through a straw if you have stitches. So eat lots of soft liquid things you can... -
ARCHIVED Turn On The Today Show Right Now!

Okay, here's what they made: Open Original Shared Link (scroll down for the recipe) She didn't say what flours she was using, but she did talk about the properties of gluten in cooking and how it's important to have the right gluten free flour mix that's not too heavy. They also mentioned that some people have a "gluten allergy" and some people have a... -

ARCHIVED What Is Up With Bacon!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I eat Butterball turkey bacon. It's the only one I have found without soy and without pork (yes, some turkey bacons actually contain "pork flavoring" ). One thing about turkey bacon is that because it is so low in fat it won't crisp up as easily in a skillet. I line my broiler pan with foil, cut slits in it and bake in the oven at 375 for about 20 minutes... -

ARCHIVED Can You Make Yourself Sensitive To Gluten By Avoiding It?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Chakra2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many people here have gluten free households, meaning their entire family eats gluten free at home whether they need to or not, but outside of the house they can eat whatever. If going back to eating gluten was a problem with everyone, then there would not be people that can eat gluten free at home and indulge in gluten while at parties, restaurants, etc... -
Well, at least they warned you. Wouldn't you rather not eat there, then be told, "It's safe", eat there, and get sick?

ARCHIVED What Is Up With Bacon!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not sure what your problem with it is, but I'm allergic to pork. I only started having problems with it a couple years ago. It started out with tummy aches/digestive issues and then got to the point where I had trouble breathing (throat closing up and tongue getting big) when I ate it. I get turkey bacon instead and don't have a problem. If bacon...
