The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
love2travel replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Loved your post, IH!!! Love seeing people enjoying life and being happy. Happy Birthday to Me! Tonight I am making: - Seared bacon wrapped diver scallops that I first dip into a garlic butter mixture then roll in bacon, sear and then serve with a roasted chestnut and wild mushroom cream (dried mushrooms foraged in Croatia we brought home in October... -

ARCHIVED Prodigal Daughter Has Returned!
love2travel replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We love the name, too. It really seems to fit. We had a list of about 20 contenders (yes, we actually made a list!) and it is the best fit for his personality. He is not like the Mr. Bingley character on Pride and Prejudice BUT the name is too adorable (we think). And I have never heard of another dog named Bingley (though I'm sure there is somewhere... -

Ha ha. I saw that on the WFD thread, too! Not quite a popsicle though it is still definitely winter. I cannot wait until our temperature warms up to 0. We'll all be wearing shorts! -

Yes, he is a great match. Interestingly I don't have time to dwell on pain! He is rough around the edges (i.e. nips at our ankles, struggling to walk calmly on his leash) but we know that will come. We truly need each other. And yes, he is sort of, kind of allowed on the bed BUT only when we have our snuggle time before bed. My husband loves to... -

He does eat rather well. I give him raw chicken with bones (ground from a store) with a bit of fruit puree and make veg purees. And then I flash freeze chunks of raw beef kidney and chicken gizzards. And to be sure he gets all his nutrients, he gets 1 tsp of sea kelp alternating days. WHEW! That is a job in itself. Oh, and an egg or two each week is... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Food/breads Question
love2travel replied to BELMO33's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another idea is to make banana bread. It is great as French Toast, too. I slice mine thickly, place wax paper between slices and freeze. Easy peasy. Or how about making muffins or cupcakes? Very simple to make gluten free. Eggs Benedict is one of my favourite things for breakfasts/lunches. Just buy English muffins or use bread (homemade is best) or... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Tomato Bouillon?
love2travel replied to CommonTater's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you are interested and into cooking, tomato soup and bouillon are both simple to make. And taste a heck of a lot better! But that is not always a viable option. As far as products go, I am unaware of any tomato ones that are gluten free but then I haven't looked. Perhaps others can help you out better. -

Here I am! See my "Prodigal Daughter has Returned" post to see why I have been preoccupied! A rescue PUPPY! My routine has gone all to pieces as I have been bonding with our fluffy son. Whenever I look at him my heart literally swells with joy and pride. He just makes me smile! We named him Bingley which really fits as I LOVE English literature.... -
ARCHIVED Prodigal Daughter Has Returned!

The last two weeks have been rather interesting and will help to explain my lack of posting. My time has been devoted to our darling rescue puppy. My husband and I went with the intent to foster but when we saw our fluff we knew we had to adopt. The vet believes he is seven months old with some husky, chow and corgi in him (interesting mix). As I explain... -

I found some excellent lactose-free mozzarella so am making a low-fat version of poutine. Just poutine and only poutine. Oh, heck. May as well steam some broccoli. Made superb chocolate chip cookies for my massage therapist this morning and am not having any myself (except that one I sacrified for quality control). Tomorrow's dinner is far more inspired... -

Pavlova or meringues, granitas, brownies (with ghee), Bananas Foster (made with ghee), pears poached in wine and vanila beans, coconut layer cake, lemon poppyseed muffins...lots of great stuff you can easily make yourself. There are tons of recipes that are naturally gluten free, thankfully. What kind of chocolate are you having that does not contain dairy... -

Oh, Addy and Gottaski! I feel for you poor girls. How very discouraging. But Addy, you are right. What is done is done. There is no point in placing blame on yourself. Do you not find that celiac can be character building in ways? I have learned a lot and cope/face challenges better than I did a few years ago. I feel wiser. Part of it may be because... -
ARCHIVED Living Normally While Battling Celiac Is Like:
love2travel replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is SO true! Luv2teach, there is no way you need to put up with crappy food. Heck - about 80% of what I cook is naturally gluten free and is spectacular. See the What's for Dinner thread for great meal ideas, most of which are intrinsically gluten free. If I had to live on processed commercial gluten-free food I think I would crawl in a hole and never... -

ARCHIVED Favorite - Best Cold Cuts And Chips
love2travel replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another non cold-cut person but when I take sandwiches on the road I do like Natural Selections that is labeled gluten free on the package. My favourite flavours of chips are in England - roast chicken and thyme and prawn cocktail. Here I LOVE Old Dutch ketchup chips. I don't really like Lays that much as I prefer thicker chips. I love to make my... -
