  1. I just noticed on another of my posts that I joined here in May last year. A whole year gluten free and a whole year here. I have learned SO much from you all. Couldn't have done it without you. Thanks everyone for the great advice, recommendations, tips, and stories.
  2. Add me to the list who uses baby shampoo or baby wash. I prefer baby wash because it makes her smell so good.
  3. Lol. I also have an adblocker going so I have lovely blank space.
  4. Yes, that's the price of Udi's here also, although Trader Joe's has it for a bit less. This is brand new at my Costco so if yours doesn't have it you might have a chat with the manager. Mention that in Northern Virginia the Pentagon City Costco carries it.
  5. At my Costco yesterday, in the frozen section near the dessert stuff -- a two-pack of Rudy's bread! For $6.99!! Omg, that makes it just about the same price per loaf as gluteny bread. I've just had some as toast and it was excellent! Move over Udi's. Also, the slices are bigger than Udi's, and now I'm thinking of grilled cheese for lunch. Just...
  6. I saw the rolls but didn't get them because I've been burned by rolls before. (not this brand) Now I'll have to get them! You are an enabler!
  7. The problem is that I ate an entire baguette today. With butter. And it's only 1:45 in the afternoon. I might come to be sorry that my Whole Foods has started carrying these. Maybe I'll be sorry. Or not.
  8. Oh yes, I can TOTALLY relate. I call these people "gluten lite". Really what some of them are trying to do is to cut down on carbs. Pasta, white bread, etc. Which isn't a bad thing in itself. Just don't call yourself a celiac! And don't say you're gluten free! I went to a church meeting/social event on Friday night (social part first, meeting following...
  9. I'm not sure I understand why it matters what the results are? I mean, you'll want to know eventually. But for now why can't you just go gluten free? You might feel SO much better than the thought of the trip won't be too awful. If the test comes out positive, then okay. If it doesn't, but you feel better, then it doesn't matter. And I know the answer...
  10. I'd vote for the leeks. I mean, if I had to choose which to cut out I'd say keep cookies and get rid of something like a leek. ahem... sorry, I'm no help. But a cookie sounds yummy right about now.
  11. I found the Against the Grain baguettes in a huge Whole Foods in Pittburgh. My Whole Foods (Arlington, VA) does NOT have them. However, it's a smaller store, and I know there's a bigger one out a ways from Arlington which I plan to call. I'm also going to talk to the manager of my store and see if he can order them. Ha! I just clicked on the Against...
  12. Never. I don't care how careful they think they are, it's like the one person here said -- a layer of flour just collects everywhere. Think about how it was the last time you used regular flour. I remember letting it "poof" into the bowl too hard and a cloud of flour dust would rise up into the air. Now multiply that by umpteen cupcakes/cakes/whatever else...
  13. Well it's been a few years since I've lived in Africa but I could try to answer your questions. 1. Unless a whole lot has changed since I lived there I would think that "standards for gluten free labeling" are fairly non-existent. Sorry. Now I don't know Zambia, but in general African countries import a lot of their canned/processed food. Well actually...
  14. My Target just did this remodeling thing to add an almost-full grocery store. They did keep the snack bar, just spruced it up a bit. The grocery section now sells just about everything in a regular grocery store, just not all the different varieties. I don't buy produce there because I didn't think it looked great, plus they sell a lot of it "per piece" rather...
  15. I have just discovered Against the Grain baguettes! omg!! I almost cried. lol. It even has that chewy crust! I ate it with some brie cheese and it felt like the "old days" (i.e., back before I was diagnosed). So move over Udi's! (although, Udi's is the one to go to for a sandwich).
  16. I got mine at Lauren's Hope (laurenshope.com)
  17. What kind is it? I mean, what style. I have one (not for celiac) that's made for women, and it's got beads and sparkly things on it. lol.. So if you had one like that the next time this guy -- or anyone -- says anything you could say "yes it is, I just got this new style, thank you for noticing! Isn't it pretty?" Kill 'em with kindness, as my mother used...
  18. I haven't read all the replies yet so maybe someone else said what I think. But... I don't think you "probably should." It depends on what stage of being gluten free you are in. I had my blood test but then went gluten free on my own. The doctor never mentioned anything about an endoscopy at that point and I was curious to try the gluten free diet since she...
  19. {waves to Cara} I've just finished seminary and have been "certified ready to receive a call" -- Presbyterian-speak for "I need a job!" lol.. I'm a part-time chaplain now, and hopefully will find a full-time position. I'm looking for a good recipe that I can use to have our communion all gluten-free so I'll be looking forward to this pita bread recipe also...
  20. This was the Harris Teeter at the Harrison Street shopping center, Lee Highway and Harrison in Arlington. Kind of far from Capital Hill, but if you ever find yourself over here.... I'm going to call their customer service on Monday and see what they say. I'll be interested to hear if there's some sort of gluten free baking facility around here, because...
  21. I ran into Harris Teeter last night looking for some scones for my dd and friend (friend spent the night so they could get up at 4:00 a.m. and watch the royal wedding ) -- So I'm browsing through the bakery section and there on one of the racks were several gluten free options! But -- not brand-name stuff. These had the HT label and were wrapped like they...
  22. I should have added one more thing to the dessert list -- chocolate! lol.. That Easter Bunny sure was smart, he brought only gluten free chocolate for the kids' baskets. And, he left the leftovers hidden for me! He even knew where my best hiding place was!
  23. Easter dinner: 1. ham (ingredients: ham, brown sugar glaze) 2. asparagus (ingredients: asparagus) 3. scalloped potatoes (ingredients: potatoes, cream, cheese, salt, pepper) 4. roasted cauliflower (ingredients: cauliflower, Italian seasoning) 5. glass of wine (ingredients: grapes) 6. dessert -- strawberries and raspberries (ingredients: strawberries...
  24. Try Udi's also. It's as close as we'll get to gluteny bread. This Harvest Corn has a different texture to it, but is still "breadlike", if that makes sense. lol.. I cannot start my day without coffee and toast, so I'm happy to have another option for the toast part.
  25. Well, just speaking for myself and my friend who I mentioned above -- I get upset because she says she's gluten free, and other people believe she is. So then we all go out and she orders the grilled chicken sandwich, which I know for a fact has gluten in the seasoning because I talked to the chef on the phone. So then when it's my turn to order I get a plain...
