  1. Hey donna, I'm sorry you've felt badly for a few days. It really sounds like your symptoms are from Celiac. Fatigue from gluten is one of the symptoms I have. If you think an official diagnosis would keep you on the diet, it's probably best for you to get one. I know holidays are tough, but I made a really good Thanksgiving dinner that was gluten free...
  2. Thank you for the warning. Luckily we don't use any pesticides on our lawn. I might just see if the health food store carries it...sounds much easier.
  3. oh juliem...Did you ever make the Turkey Shepherd's Pie yet? I had it tonight...it was delicious!!! I did make a couple changes, but not too much so I'll post the recipe and what I did just in case anyone is interested. It is very good! Thank you for bringing it to my attention! 4. I was in Walmart yesterday and found that their decaffeinated tea is labeled gluten free. Had some this morning and no tummy ache! Yay! I never would have suspected Chamomile tea would have been making me bloat and have tummy aches. You just never know. The great news is that the problem isn't dairy or soy! Double yay! Doing the happy dance!!!
  5. Wow! Thank you for that explanation. It is more complicated than I expected, but you explained it all very well. I should be able to adapt some of the recipes. I never realized the milk powder was used to replace protein in some recipes. Thanks!
  6. Did you find it near the regular pasta?
  7. I already threw it out. Chamomile is what's bothering my stomach anyway...and I wouldn't give it to anyone else being that old.
  8. I am sorry Paula. My thoughts and prayers are with your entire family.
  9. Hi Bonnie, I was diagnosed as an adult, but wanted to tell you my main symptom was constipation. I was slightly overweight, hungry all the time and had gas, bloating and fatigue. Yes, the symptoms he has can definately be celiac. Just as you said, what do you have to lose from trying the diet? It surely can't hurt anything and you are able to stop it...
  10. Mine needed a little more salt too. I'm used to Stove Top mixed in with regular bread so my stuffing wasn't as spicey as I'm used to. Also, I think next year I will bake it in a separate pan or use the crock pot method because it tends to get mushier inside the turkey. Overall, I was pretty happy.
  11. I have a book that only uses dry milk powder in it's recipes. I'd like to know how I can use Soy Milk or Rice milk in place of the dry powdered milk. Is there some kind of formula? I always have milk on hand and don't want to add another ingredient in the house right now. I'm running out of room quickly with all my gluten free stuff. Thanks, Joni
  12. Thank you for the information and great list. I've been experimenting with a different tea every morning and every afternoon. So far it looks like I can't take Chamomile in anything. I tried Lipton regular tea today and have no stomach ache at all, but I'm very senstivie to caffeine and feel a little lightheaded and jittery from that. Eliminating caffeine...
  13. Yes, please post your roll recipe. I didn't do rolls for myself this year, but they looked so good when everyone else had theirs. Can you have eggs? A little egg whites on top would help them brown nicely. I found this recipe on this forum and it is awesome! 14. Hi Harobed and Welcome! Nice to have you. I'm not dieting at all today or exercising! I've made way to much food and it's just too hard right now. I hurt my calf muscle and wasn't able to exercise for a few weeks. I did some light walking and am now pain free so I will finally start exercising and dieting again full blast on Friday. I already tasted...
  15. Hi sparkles, Yes, this was an old family recipe that has been passed down. And my 2 children love making it too. I will surely post if I find a good substitute recipe. I can understand your daughters feelings. It has to be hard to go on the diet or imagine you have Celiac when the tests aren't conclusive. That's what is happening with my mom right...
  16. YUM! That does look good. I'm definatly trying that with my leftovers too. I love those hearty one dish meals. Thank you juliem.
  17. Hey, I just saw the recipe for dumplings and it made me think of Chicken Potpie. We used to make dough and roll it out flat, then cut it in big square noodles. There was no crust to it, although a recipe with the crust kind would be great too. I used to love the Stouffers with crust! Anyone have a recipe for either? Thanks, Joni
  18. That's it they said "southern homestyle". Maybe they are crumbs instead of flakes. I have to get some, they do sound good. LOL!!!
  19. I haven't noticed those symptoms since going gluten free, but my face was always red prior. I also had night sweats and my stomach always felt naggingly hungry.
  20. I was just thinking about having Peas and Dumplings. Couldn't find a recipe for it in my books. I'm saving this to my gluten-free recipe folder now.
  21. Hi Virgie, Sounds like your daughter is really being responsible. I give her a lot of credit at 13. I also worry about cross contamination. In fact my mom invited me and my family to go out to dinner for Thanksgiving so no one would have to cook this year. I declined. I just couldn't deal with the hastle of calling a local restaurant, which like yours...
  22. Hello, broncobux, I bought funyons to replace Durkee French Fried Onion Rings in a green bean casserole. Thanks for that tip! Kelly, I almost bought them for a chicken/rice/broccoli casserole I made, but mixed corn flake crumbs, corn meal, butter and poultry seasoning with butter instead. It was pretty good. They sound good, let me know if you...
  23. No not even almost! I'm scared horribly with this. I'm still learning gluten-free and newly caffeine free. It's ok when I can substitute, but now that teas seem to be bothering me...There does seem to be a huge amount of possibilities. I keep trying to do dairy free, but am not being successful. Maybe I can get serious after Thanksgiving. It's too much too...
  24. This morning I had Celestial Seasonings Decaf Honey Cahmomile Green Tea (says gluten free on the label) for the first time. This definately hurt my stomach. Ingredients: Decaf Green Tea, Chammomile, Natural Honey flavor with other natural flavors (contains SOY lecithin), and honey. The only other thing I had this morning was Bob's Mighty Tasty GLuten Free...
