  1. ohmygosh! i had a sore throat for months and a burning tongue and just realized right now that my tongue feels normal and my throat doesn't hurt! i am just over 5 months gluten-free...
  2. So, my 18.5 year old tabby, Kitty, died in Feb 2010. All my symptoms of celiac started about 2 weeks after that. It was so horrible when he died, I wonder if that actually was the impetus for the celiac. We got him a week after we got married in 1991, he was such a part of our family. So the months passed and I thought I would never get another cat until...
  3. What a sweet baby
  4. I think many of us could just PUNCH your Dr!!!! I do not advocate violence, BUT COME ON. Why why why do they think that we are making this crap (no pun intended) up?!?!?!? I have no more great advice, others have you covered for the short term but sheesh. My Dr. also thought I was "crazy" although after a few months I am so thankful and so lucky that she...
  5. oh that is too bad! I really don't expect the world to stop revolving because I have celiac but this labeling is SUCH a problem. For some people, the shared equipment info would certainly be helpful.Hope he feels better soon!
  6. Hi You can start the diet right after the biopsy. Don't have to wait for results. You would need to see how you feel and decide when you get the results if they come back negative what you want to do, although hopefully you will feel so much better, it will be a no brainer. In Canada it takes at least 3 weeks I think, so depends where you are. Positive...
  7. Good for you!! My GP said that because I had the antibodies (very high TTG and gliadin AB's) that I definitely have it but I had the biopsy anyway (positive). In my case, I am glad I did because my symptoms are non typical and my healing is very, very slow so I may not have believed it without seeing it. I am in Canada as well, and the tax deductions are...
  8. I am considered a laid back, happy person. The depression that I sank into literally had me starting at the bottle of ativan, thinking if I took them all I could end the pain. I was also in a great deal of physical pain, joints and neuropathy as well as having severe insomnia (hence the ativan). My Dr. put me on Cymbalta and I am totally off the ativan...
  9. Not too bad MSN! I lost a ton of weight eating gluten and have been putting it on since going gluten-free, so no it is NOT necessarily low carb. But whatever, if Gwyneth Paltrow means that gluten-free products get on the shelves and are cheaper because more people want them, who am I to burst their bubble?
  10. Did they give you a range? Every lab is different...If it is outside the range, chances are pretty good. If you have symptoms, chances are even better...There are false positives but I think those are pretty rare and that false negatives seem to be more common.
  11. One week is not long at all...Unfortunately it can take time. The dietician I saw told me to give myself a YEAR...I had tons of damage...However, everyone is different, not trying to freak you out that it will take a year! It has been 5 months for me and I am seeing improvement. Give yourself time. Good luck!
  12. Welcome! With very positive blood work and a positive response to the diet, I would say that you are good to go. Other tests you may want to ask for are iron, B vitamins, Vit D as these are things that can be low in Celiac disease and should be monitored. You still may want to check with your doctor with what they recommend. I had very very high blood work...
  13. That is fantastic! I too had crippling insomnia, days without sleeping. I was literally a crazy person. Dr gave me ativan to sleep and it saved my life. Don't need it now, 5 months gluten-free. I can have coffee and sleep! Sleep is such a relief and so necessary to heal.
  14. and of course, it wasn't a chocolate BOAR but A chocolate BAR. as big as a boar but nonetheless, a BAR.
  15. i see that cadbury's will list if there is any gluten in their chocolate...so i bought a large dairy milk mint chocolate boar and ATE THE WHOLE FREAKING thing! i think i am craving something that is NOT so gosh-darn healthy for me all the time. it was delicious but now i feel kinda sick. no portion control for me, no sireee!
  16. Thanks everyone! Helps that I am not the only one. Will never eat, won't try but yesterday...arrgh. Unfortunately, I am in Canada and lots of the "good" breads are not available for some reason and they don't ship to Canada. GLutino bagels aren't too bad but I hate their bread. I use a lot of brown rice tortillas that are from food for life or something...
  17. Stopped at the grocery store after work. Had to walk through the bakery to where I was headed...All the fresh bread...All the pastries...I was STARVING and actually, for one insane moment thought about buying a fresh bun, chewing it and spitting it out. I know it is ridiculous but I. MISS. FRESH. CHEWY. BREAD.I have not really missed it in 4 months but today...
  18. I am basically a neuro celiac, none or hardly any stomach issues. 4 months into it (gluten-free), I am developing crippling stomach pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea and all the symptoms that I have never had. My ribs hurt, I am a mess. What the HECK? I know lots of celiacs have other intolerances but Wouldn't they show up sooner? Some of my neuro symptoms are...
  19. Hi The gliadin result still falls in the negative range. However, being gluten-free for 2 years and eating gluten for one week, I am not surprised that everything is negative. This is totally inconclusive. I was off gluten for a month and my GI said that I needed to be eating LOTS for atleast 6 weeks before my endoscopy. How do you feel off gluten and...
  20. I am a neuro celiac only: 41 years a silent celiac it seems and then 1 year of total mental and physical meltdown...Never had GI symptoms with my celiac, but BAD depression/anxiety and severe neuropathy. I am 4 months gluten-free and not really feeling much better (although I have put on some weight-before I was diagnosed, I lost about 25 pounds without trying...
  21. Even MORE irritating is that I believe these are made in Canada as they are certified Kosher by some group in Canada (from their FAQ's) Open Original Shared Link Now that made me grumpy. I live in Burlington and found a fantastic gluten-free brownie/chocolate cake mix called Judy's Magic Mixes. The cookies are cakes are really good. Theier website is...
  22. This disease can just be hellish. I totally relate to so many of your symptoms. I have been tested for MS and RA so far and all negative but it is shocking how freaking disabling this can be. Most people don't understand, since I seem so much better (not wasting away, sleeping better and the crippling depression and anxiety is so much better) but I am still...
  23. Hello and welcome from Ontario You would want a total IgA, the TTG (tissue transglutanimase) and/or EMA (antiendomysuium). It will depend what tests are available at the labs. The IgA is a protein found in blood. Many Celiacs are IgA deficient. The TTG test is for an antibody that indicates tissue damage (ie your body attacking itself). This is from...
  24. I am chiming in here, joining you all...4 months gluten-free and some days I feel like CRAP. Like a bad flu... I don't have the energy to try to test other intolerances but i guess that is my next step. I thought that other intolerances would manifest as stomach issues but it seems not! i HAVE put on weight and I think some of the nerve stuff is better...
  25. Hi Sorry for the diagnosis, especially since you weren't looking for one.I was diagnosed in September with blood test and biopsy. I ONLY started getting symptoms in February which were horrible neuropathy and depression with some weight loss. I am very tall and not skinny, no reason to believe that there was anything wrong with me before Feb.and my diagnosis...
