It's starting to be a strain. Everytime I am out, the kids want food. Of course I wait till I get home to make my own but you know... I am getting tired of it. It kind of came to a head this morning. I am getting ready to take my 16 yr old to the hospital for a pre-op appt. (she is having surgery tuesday to repair a severly deformed septum) She wanted Mcdonalds...

I was wondering how this went. Honestly I don't think she gets it. If she did, I don't think she would be calling you (or the allergy and choices you make) weird. The adjective is strange within this context. But none the less, I too, would take it one date at a time and be sure not to make a big deal about it. If it is brought up again then I would take...

ARCHIVED 4 Weeks Gluten-Free And Not Seeing Improvement
Aphreal replied to ClevelandGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Could you have chronic fatigue not responding to gluten-free? Breakfast for me is the easiest to go gluten-free. I have Cagefree brown eggs, gluten-free bacon and or gluten-free waffles (buckwheat blueberry) I pretty much eat the same thing every morn, Regular bacon tears me up but boarshead gluten-free bacon doesn't. I figure it's the smoke flavor... -
ARCHIVED Can A Biopsy Give False Negative?
Aphreal posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter suffered from severe upper stomach pain for over a year. It came out of the blue and halted her life over night. no more sports, she slept 15 hrs a day, she was in pain 24/7. We tried drugs and went through a lot of testing. That was 2 years ago and she still has some issue but it's a lot better. In her *TONS* of testing, it was learned she... -
Shesh I never even thought of that! I am always making gluten items for the family and never thought of immediately washing my hands. I would make a hotdog in bun then turn around and make my lettuce wrap. *sigh* I also toast my gluten-free waffles and toast sticks in the family toaster and wonder why I get (D) when I know I was gluten-free! My kids...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Confusion
Aphreal replied to merbear's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am new to this too and basically it's a trial and error. It seems you might could go gluten light but you won't know till you try it. With me. It's all or nothing but I have all those things you don't. Thankfully you don't! -
I know where another one is. I might call them. When I asked about gluten issues, the cashier had no clue what I was talking about. She turned to ask a coworker... blank stare. Asked a manager... no clue. Then she came back and said yes, the dressing has gluten because it had cornsyrup. huh? I asked about the fries. That should have been my first clue...

ARCHIVED Gringo's Mexican Kitchen... Anything gluten-free There?
Aphreal posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I haven't been since going gluten free. Does anyone asked and verfied gluten-free items or know what's naturally gluten-free there? I am still learning. I'm guessing the beans... salads, I LOVE their fajita meat, I could ditch the shell and make a salad out of that. What about queso? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Tiff -
ARCHIVED Tasty gluten-free Snack Foods
Aphreal replied to RachelisFacebook's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The American cookie company has one lone gluten-free cookie and it tastes like the full fledged gluten filled sweet piece of heaven. Chocolate chewy supreme. I asked them if they make them there... with the others. I was told they make them at the factory and insured they were gluten-free. I did not ask if they shared cooking pans but I eat them and I don... -
I thought I was going to be a smarty pants. I found turkey bacon that stated gluten free. I cooked the whole pound and vaccum packed it for my easy use. I hate it! Its floppy and chewy. blech. I miss bacon but I am willing to ditch it. I was eating a little bacon on my salads and lettuce wraps and potatoes... I still am suffering from that but it's getting...

PATTI I have to first say... I am in l.o.v.e. with sunflowers. I dig your avatar. You know.. Whether the gluten created IBS or vs versa or what ever... I DO have irritable bowel and bacon IS a trigger but it left me alone for so long. However with the drastic overnight dietary changes, I can see why it would give me fits now. I also find foods I know are...

ARCHIVED Want To Cry-So Frustrated!
Aphreal replied to lvpriest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so new to this I may be talking out of my butt.. get it? this is a celiac board.. butt? Ok bad joke anyway... I can understand the desire for a definiative diagnosis. It's almost like a closure. You are then able to say *yes I have this* and then not explain why you are gluten free. The more I read of this board the more I think I don't even want... -
Peter, actually I think my gut doesn't like it for some reason because I can't find anything suspect but I get 'ick' every time I eat it. (more than a few bits that is) Im still new so.. you guys might see a bunch of dumb questions.

Oh my heavens. I had to re-read that. What is WRONG with some people!

I can have bacon pieces on my potato or lettuce wrap but if I eat a whole piece or two.. Within an hour I am having an *episode* and looking for a bathroom. Is there gluten in bacon? Tiff

Well I know that NOW . All these years I just told them IBS and they didn't think twice. I deserve better than that. Thank you guys for your warm welcome! The more I heal, the better I can tell when I get glutened. I mean it sucks yea but... there is no mistaken it! Onward glutenfree soldier. -

ARCHIVED What Is Going On When Your Stomach Bloats?
Aphreal replied to srfjeld's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh my gosh K8ling I am cracking up because that is what my husband calls it. Dorks. I don't know either. I know it's not fecal matter because I will have already evacuated and still have the bloating. Sometimes I can't even fit my jeans. -
ARCHIVED Unusual Dreams, Heavy Sleep And Day Exhaustion
Aphreal replied to GReilly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am going through the exact same thing. I am sleeping very deep and wake up more rested now (usually... still detoxing) but my dreams are crazy. For me however, I notice this cycle when there is something big going on. I say going gluten-free is pretty big Wish my dreams were more pleasant but alas, they are pretty crummy. At least I can almost get through... -
ARCHIVED Well Now I Got In A Fight At Pf Changs.
Aphreal replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I would be afraid to take the chance too. There is a reason why you ask for gluten-free stuff. They should take it seriously. -
I researched the places we go and Chick Fil A is one of them. I found that the waffle fries were listed as gluten-free. Ok... suspect but OMGOSH I love them. So I took a chance and failed. Within 20 minutes I was running to the bathroom. When I got home, I told my hubby I ate gluten so I was pretty useless for the rest of the day. I suggested they probably...
