ARCHIVED Do You Expect Relatives To Cater To Your Gluten-Free Diet?
Aphreal replied to ljgs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Personally and this is only me, I actually request no special treatment be made. When I eat somewhere like a family event, I take responsibility for my own dietary needs. When I went to Colorado for 4 days, I sent a box of my own food and with that, worked around what mom cooked. Your family is far more accomindating than most would be. I would have had... -
Lucia, what is SIBO?

Mushroom- Not entirely. I will make like a banana bread and eat a piece (rice flour) once a week. I made pizza the other night and ate several pieces but that is the only grain carb I've had all week. I've given up all the waffles, pancakes, bread, crackers etc. I find I don't really miss them though. Now things like potato, although carb, do not react...

I have not had a cramp, emergency potty trip or bout of D in 5 days!!! gluten-free, carb and sugar light. 1 librax at night (can't take it 3x a day. It has valium in it and that just throws me for a loop), 1 probiotic in the morning. When I mean carb light I mean really light. I am mostly back to whole foods, eggs, boarshead bacon, beans, lean meats...

ARCHIVED Family History Of Intestinal, Colon Cancers?
Aphreal replied to Tidings's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We have colon cancer, IBS, Crohns (I suspect Celiacs too) all in my family and all on the female side. My girls have issues with their guts too. I feel bad because I know what they are in for pain wise. -
Thanks Vbec, I might go see him too. I live in Houston.

Sometimes when I am feeling sensitive about it all, I feel actually betrayed by my body, betrayed by food. I was estatic when I learned how to cook breads gluten free... until I started making them and having reactions. It was then I learned that I have issue with how grain carbs react in my body. So I had to back off. Find that balance. I eat carb light...

ARCHIVED So Lets Add Sodium To The List. Ugh!
Aphreal replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
sandi, I switched to sea salt about 6 months ago. I refuse to go back, I LOVE the stuff. Is it better for your body than idonized table salt? I switched because I love the taste. -
These are quite something and I take them to heart! My GI told me just the other day that "Because you've had IBS so long, that's what it is" I also got the *antidepressant* speel and of course the ever popular eating more fibre. She had nothing to come back with when I told her I am already on antidepressants for PMDD. So if your an idiot for 30...

ARCHIVED So Lets Add Sodium To The List. Ugh!
Aphreal replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
yes, its half your body weight in oz. I weigh 175 (lost 10lbs WOO WOO) so that would be about 85oz of water a day. Which I don't do but... I do drink a LOT of organic decaf suntea. Yes I am on meds for it now. I am just annoyed at having one more thing. I learned my family history is inundated with high bloodpressure. It's hypertensive but it could... -

O... m... Gorsh. I would So be contacting the medical board and BBB on him. That was UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

What? Dr's not listening to their patients? Surely you jest (Insert sarcasm) What other celiac symptoms do you have? Do dietary changes help? Have you eliminated anything yet? That will be your best bet in controlling symptoms of celiacs but like the above poster I would have a dermatalogist biopsy the leasion itself and see what they say first. In...

ARCHIVED *sigh* Went To The Gi, More Confused Than Ever
Aphreal posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since I've had this for so long (30 yrs) the likelyhood that it IS *just* IBS is very high. Because if it was something more severe, I would have been *moved* to seek medical care. #1 in my early adulthood I was told to eat 'right' and I wouldnt suffer. (LIE) #2 I just dealt with the pain because I didn't know better #3 I didn't have insurance. #4... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Explain Sprouted Grains?
Aphreal replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh thats right I remember seeing something here about that. I just needed a memory trigger. Thanks Raven. -
I have heard that sprouted grains are OK but I have doubts. What changes when a grain sprouts? It's still gluten, isn't it?

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Bad Reactions To Quinoa?
Aphreal replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've heard this about quinoa ESPECIALLY for new celiacs. I think I'll just steer clear of it. I have plenty in my recipe box without it -
ARCHIVED Do Any Of You Wear A Med Bracelet?
Aphreal replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Do Any Of You Wear A Med Bracelet?
Aphreal replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was wondering how important it is that someone knows this allergy if your unconscience. -
I was just wondering if any of you wear a medical alert bracelet for your food allergies.

Update: I concluded it was nerves. I had a dental appt today. My blood pressure was so high, they wouldn't work on me. I had to get a script for valium and reschedule so I bet it was nerves. Also I am now making sure I wash my hands really well after I make the kids food. I do use gloves for a lot of things, wouldn't be anything big to use them to touch...

hmmmm I DID make the kids hotdogs just before that. With buns....
