  1. wow! another northern magnolia tree! i just asked my (trucker) husband if he ever saw *any* magnolia trees upstate - we both agreed we've never seen them north of virginia. that is just impressive (or y'all have magic dirt lolz ) i think, of all the things we have grown, beets surprised me the most. i have to be careful when we harvest them because...
  2. my blood test(s) came back negative, but i was already eating gluten-free. i understand that false negatives are pretty common. my doc did an endoscopy anyway and that's how i got diagnosed as having celiac disease. they also tested many other things, as well, to be sure to rule out any other diseases. my vitamin levels were wacky, too.
  3. oh, stoooopp it i'm drooling - that is some pretty food! what i'm making tonight: white bratwurst w/sauerkraut pot cheese & pickle(d) something gonna look like slop compared to (oh, man, just one more peek...) those
  4. if you are growing magnolias up there, i bow down to you! (bows down) that's impressive! you must have a pretty good green thumb. i never had too much luck up north, not for lack of trying. down here, God truly helps me. still can't keep a houseplant alive.... even though it's warmer here, and we have a longer season, if it gets too dry during the...

  7. hi joshua, i mostly use other websites regarding celiac/gluten free when i am trying to cook/look for recipes. lolz and usually when i google something it comes back to this forum as one of the results of search. i'm sure there are other good ones out there, and as celiac becomes more 'mainstream', there will be even more options i guess i just like the...
  8. i buy the udi's crust - they are 'ok' in a pinch (and that reminds me, irish, didn't you say you had a good pizza crust recipe? i'm on a dough roll - get it? dough? roll...? *snort* haha i crack myself up) but i tend to use them for other things - pita bread for gyros, sometimes i cut them into wedges and put oil & spices on them for bruschetta, you...
  9. lolz - it's *my* thread I DO WHAT I WANT! bwhahahahahaaaa!!!! my napa cabbage 'bolted' yesterday - i have never tried it before but evidently it is less hardy to extreme temp changes than regular cabbage. all the advice i have gotten said to pull them out and try again at a later time. howly wowly wants the extra space for another row of tomatoes...
  10. i have been feeling braver lately - my brother moved nearby and we are going camping over memorial day weekend. we were talking about things to keep the kids occupied and one of his suggestions was badminton. he told my husband: she was so good, and so aggressive when we were younger. and I WAS! nowadays, i can't even throw or catch a ball. don't have...
  11. i have a couple of cookbooks, but i don't like *all* the recipes in any one particular book - i don't have a 'go-to' - the interwebs have been mighty handy. a huge help because you can not only get recipes on the web, most times you can read/give feedback, adjustments or variations. you might want to check out the baking/cooking section of this forum ...
  12. probably why i'm always so broke!
  13. i haven't had canyon bakehouse (and now i want it lolz) but udi's or rudi's breads are good - love the schar, too, and theirs comes in different varieties (like rolls) i haven't tried those yet. my grandkids eat the sliced bread (udi's rudi's or schar) and they like it.
  14. yesterday i made my pie, finally. sort of. i used the canned pie filling (cherry) and my pie plate was ginormous for the amount of filling i had - i could just about turn the rest of the bottom crust over it to cover it. so that's what i did. like a rustic tart. brushed it with egg was the last 10-15 min and sparkled it with turbinado sugar. i also...

we are actually good friends. in fact, when we went to their daughters' graduation party, we were being introduced to some people and they asked if we were family and we all went, "errrrr. kind of...." lolz. this guy is over the top. a few years ago, he and his wife, along with an organization of dentists who donate their time and talent, went to somewhere...

  21. yes, the end of the month we have family coming in - one spare room is 'ready' - we have alot to do. plus, i can't get everybody to commit what exact day they are coming, so all my plans on who to put in which house/room are all up in the air. on the up side, these plans will probably change one hundred times from now til then! the tossing out things...
  22. experimental night tonite - i have rice paper wraps, assorted veggies and frozen shrimp. i'm thinking of marinating the veggies and rolling them up with cooked shrimp. but i also have cream cheeeeeeese. and i wonder if i wrap them up and fry them how that will be. playing with my food again.....

  25. my grandson, now 9, picked up on the whole concept really fast. he could already read by the time i got diagnosed. he would ask me if i could eat something and i asked him what's in it? then he would read the ingredients and when he got to 'wheat' he said NOPE. he is actually pretty educated about it for a kid his age. the 4 yr olds do not care as long...
