  1. my period still fakes me out because i think "oh, boy. what have i eaten?" thinking i have glutened myself. headache, fatigue, etc and the big 'D' - then i go look at my calendar lolz - usually, i am wanting to eat wierd things, too, so it doesn't make it any better!! salt!! chocolate!!
  2. our son has type 1 diabetes - when he was diagnosed, i felt terribly guilty! like i messed him up or something (of course, i didn't) in fact, he was 19 and 950 miles away at school when he called to tell me what the doctor had told him i said "you don't have that. go tell him he is wrong" lolz - he does, indeed, have diabetes and it's probably from me...
  3. lolz they know it's genetic, right? what if they have it, too?! my dad made fun of me for ONE SECOND because i asked him "how ya feeling, buddy?" - i think he would benefit from a gluten free diet, and he probably knows this, but he can't commit without a reason. my cousin said "that sucks" never occurred to her that she is also related to me. the...
  4. when i am trying to figure out what i am eating that is causing __________, i keep a food journal. that's how i figured out that soy an i are Not Friends. soy is in my favorite chocolate candy so, by experimenting, i learned that i can eat a little of it without getting much of a reaction. if i have none at all all day long, i can have 1 or 2 squares...
  5. indeed i moved down here with all the winter stuff (snow pants! lol! and even ice skates) and promptly got rid of most of it. now, all my clothes are made of tissue paper - i had to go north in december and my sister picked me up at the airport. with a wool coat (and i needed it! Brrrr!)
  6. cake soup !! yeh!!!! chili is chili-ing, perfect day for it as it has been raining for 2 days. yesterday i made bette hagman's vinegar pie crust for the first time trying pie crust of any kind. it's in the friger and it looks normal i'm not sure whether i want to fool with it in front of the hubs - plastic wrap is not my friend. but i may need...
  7. your story sounds so familiar - anymore when anyone says 'ibs' to me i tell them that is a mythical condition in doctorspeak it means: i don't know what is wrong with you. usually followed by: here, take some drugs lolz it was a miracle to me - after 2 1/2 yrs i am still healing. it took a long time to do this much damage and i feel better all the...
  8. 1. yeah, doesn't make much sense but i think alot of processed foods are 'enriched' with extra vitamins that you don't really think about unless you have to - like we do - and you could end up deficient on certain ones. i get my blood tested - am low on D so i take a supplement. also i supplement extra B-12. if you are taking a gluten-free multi-vitamin...
  9. aww, poor addy i'm so sorry you are still so hurty love2 - what is that photo of (i don't care what they are i'm eating them) on your avatar??? CAKE is one of my very favorite words in the english language. CAKE makes me happy. three different kinds of CAKE i would go outta my miiiinnnnnd <say with a southern accent lolz so, it's a crummy...
  10. hey, j - i drink some kefir - about 8 oz a day. the brand i use is 99% lactose free. seems to help with digestion and it's got alot of protein. or i will eat some greek yogurt. that way it's a two-fer: i get the extra protein i need to hopefully gain some more weight and some nice flora for my digestive tract. and it tastes like blueberries three...

    ARCHIVED Dental Horror

oh, addy, that is all terrible dentists are my least favorite species. sounds like you got The Worst One my teeth are a mess - they were perfect, never a cavity until i was about 10 or 11 when my dad made a deal with the dentist. he would bring stone for the dentist's parking lot in exchange for dental work - suddenly all 3 of us kids had many...
  12. i think so, too. when i was going through withdrawal, i also had night sweats really bad. my washer and dryer got a workout from changing soaked sheets, nightshirts, etc. i found that taking really long hot showers helped. also, after a while of being gluten-free, my sense of smell returned so maybe a combination of both ?
  13. when i was at lowe's they had a ton of plants that were marked as "good for container/patio planters" but to be honest i didn't really see what variety of plants they had. tomatoes, i'm sure, but you are already growing them pretty sure you could grow peppers? next time i go, haha probably today, i'll take a peek.
  14. what do *i* do at a wedding? I DANCE! VERY BADLY! lolz i do call ahead of time. i don't trust someone else to call (except my hubs) because they won't ask the right questions. if they sound absolutely clueless, i ask for someone else. i get everybody's name! if it sounds like they are never going to get it right, i ask them if i can bring my own...
  15. i have an artichoke plant that made it through the winter! i am so excited, because i was reading that it should produce a 'flower' <aka artichoke this season! woohooo! i had 2 plants to begin with, but the giant rosemary bush kind of choked (lolz) it by taking up too much space. if you plant the artichoke plant leave ALOT of space because it needs...
  16. mondays and tuesdays i can usually count on eating alone so i get to 'play with my food' - last night was (rice) flour wrap with turkey, cheddar with peach salsa. it was yums, so it will move on to round 2 where husband will be the guinea pig taster. (round 4 is church lunch. they can all have the cheap 'regular' tortillas i have a 'flat-iron steak...
  17. whatcha planting!!?? hubby has our little plot (ok, half the backyard.....!) all tilled up and we have begun the Great Planting. have some herbs (german thyme, lemon thyme, rosemary, sage, chives) who have survived the winter and we added 4 kinds of basil ('regular', thai, purple, and boxwood) lavender (never tried before) cilantro, parsley, marjoram...
  18. right - people must think i'm nutty when i'm dancing around in the store because i found gluten-free egg noodles hahaha!
  19. ? i don't know - mine pretty much went away (along with allll my other skin issues) when i went gluten-free. i don't remember how long it took but it did linger and show up without reason. i had a few flare-ups, but by the time i got to the dermatologist the legions were gone. and i wasn't knowingly digesting any gluten. maybe ask on the dh forum?
  20. one day at a time. try to concentrate on the positive side - (i always tell my kids: if it's a BIG wall, poke holes in it first to make it easier to knock down. plus you can see to the other side) this is a great place to vent and ask questions welcome to the club you never wanted to join lolz
  21. i think it's because of where they are grown and where they are processed are also commonly where wheat is grown and processed.. i have a whole package of bob's <gluten free> and i love oatmeal but have been afraid to try them. one of these days.....
  22. so many doctors are so misinformed about celiac disease. one time i went to my gp and told the nurse practitioner i have it and if she was going to give me any meds i wanted them to be gluten-free. then i went on to tell her i had to switch lipgloss because it contained wheat oil. you might have thought i had 2 heads the way she looked at me and then she...
  23. hi jchi - i also had negative blood test for celiac put positive endoscopy. i had already been gluten free for (i think) a month at the advice of my gp doc. feeling so much better being gluten free really pushed me into going for the testing/scope. my GI tested for so many things as well, for crohns, thyroid, etc. - to narrow it down. but when i had my...
  24. my husband is a huge buffet fan that's all he plays on the boat. well, we got the (above ground) pool all cleared up - no dead bodies, thank the Lord! he picked up a sand filter secondhand and it is working wonders. last year i *could not* get the water right (THAT right THERE will make you believe in creation lolz how could humans be ph balanced...
  25. are you keeping a food journal? oh, snap, are you kissing your husband. that got me in the beginning! honestly, everybody starts out bumpy. i cried in the grocery store i quit eating, too, for a day or so - i still do every now and again when something has got me and i can't figure it out. even now, i get all carried away and eat something with...
