  1. On behalf of myself and my daughter...diagnosed by elimination diet, and then experiencing the LIFE CHANGING results...THANK YOU for this post.
  2. I'm the same as mushroom. I have a very similar reaction to corn but it usually lasts a few hours as opposed to days with wheat gluten. My daughter's worst food appears to be corn. She has an intolerance and also gets really bad hives from corn and especially corn syrup. Her behavior becomes out of control (she is now 8). Last year when she ate some...
  3. As someone who tested negative for celiac, I have a hard time with doctors who assume that a negative celiac test means that gluten isn't the problem. My poor younger brother has been suffering for years because of a negative blood test for celiac that his GI did. This poor man felt great on the Adkin's diet but he's convinced that it was the fact that...
  4. Thank you so much! I bet he does book out. Right now my 8 year old and I are moving along pretty nicely. I have given up on doctors when it comes to gluten free. I may try and make an appointment for my daughter sometime in the future because she is diagnosed "gluten sensitive" which is a term I hate because she is not sensitive to gluten...she is 10...
  5. My MIL is very supportive, but because I'm eating gluten free for my health, and by for my health I mean so I can get out of bed every morning and actually function, she is always pointing out things that are low fat or sugar free as menu options for me...hmmm. While I do care about overall health, eating egg beaters in a Perkins with a diet pop is NOT what...
  6. Can you tell me who this doctor is? My doctors (mine and daughter's pedi) have been very supportive, but still misinformed...I'm the one with all the information. If you don't want to post his name, can you send me a message. TIA.
  7. I'm so sorry for your diagnosis. Best of luck to you!
  8. If there is some sort of continuum for ADD I am probably somewhere on there. At this point in my life I sort of just cope. My daughter's teachers (she's 8) think I should have her tested for ADD or ADHD but after all the research I've done about everything over the past two years I will not medicate her. I try and manage her behavior with a strict diet...
  9. I'm responding to this quote because it's shorter than kwylee's but I completely agree. There is gluten intolerance....which may cause celiac, OR arthritis, OR neuro problems, OR IBS, etc... (In my opinion I should add...)
  10. I am a big fan of your feistiness! I completely agree about the Great American Diet. When I went off gluten (dairy, corn) I started doing all the research I could because I was realizing very quickly that I was on my own. That's how I found this board which has been more helpful than anything else. And I feel like I walk a fine line between wanting...
  11. Yeah...I thought more about that cc issue. I think just reminding him it's like raw meat, it just can't touch her food at all. I think because our kitchen is primarily gluten free it doesn't come up enough. I'll talk to both him and L. about cc. And yes to the nuts. They are a life saver for us. And I'll give him a lunch to pack for the game. Really...
  12. I think you have to definitely not beat yourself up if you were being as careful as you can be but it still happens. We've had so many slips, although it's almost always dairy, I think we have gluten figured out, and we just pick ourselves up and move on. My mother guilt comes from going gluten free in March of 2010 and feeling so incredible, but watching...
  13. The reason I am wondering is that I have had these dreams for so long. I'll be eating something like a cookie, or a sandwich (last night it was corn flakes) and then it will occur to me that I'm not supposed to be eating it at all. In the last week both my mom and my daughter have both asked me if I had dreams where I'm eating gluten. They have the same...
  14. Karen, he's been away with her before but close to home...I think it's just that they will be out of state and there are planes involved. I don't think she'll be in danger if he gets her food and remembers to have food with him always. That's what I'm most afraid of...is her being hungry and there isn't anything he can do for her for hours. Or being stranded...
  15. My husband who is not gluten free and he is taking my daughter to Oklahoma for the weekend. They are flying. So, I'm trying to get them ready to go, including instructions for him, which are now second nature to me, but I'm worried he won't think of things ahead of time. They are staying at his uncle's house. I still feel like his family doesn't take...

    ARCHIVED Is This Dh?

I had those all the time before I went gluten free. I've always wondered (in hindsight) if that was dh. I did have a full blown dh rash the first time I had gluten after being clean for 8 weeks...that made me think back to those itchy bumps I got on my fingers, right at the joints.
  17. I get brain fog when I drink tea (I usually drink hot), but have no problems with coffee. So for me, I don't think it's a caffeine issue. It seems like there is something about tea that makes me feel off.
  18. That totally sucks!!!!! Lots of water and rest. Advil? Oh my goodness, that happened to my mom when she was on her way to visit me. She felt miserable while she was here. I hope you feel better soon. I would have cried too.
  19. I'm 18 months into this and I'm still figuring this all out. I feel exactly the way you feel now. My poor little daughter has been suffering too so I had to figure it out...I believe it's teff flour so now I'm learning about gliadin vs gluten. Oy...It will get easier, but I think it's constant diligence. If I were you I'd for sure lose the dairy while...

    ARCHIVED It's Annoying!

IMO you HAVE been diagnosed with gluten intolerance. It's just that you diagnosed yourself. If you feel better on a gluten free diet and have had many symptoms clear up on this diet, you are gluten intolerant at the very least. I'm so glad you feel better. I got a little defensive at first at Lexi's post, but I *think* the problem is with people who...
  21. I never ate at Outback until my daughter and I were gluten free. Now it's our go to place on the road. We have only had good experiences with Outback. The wait staff has always been very helpful and knowledgeable about celiac and gluten free. It's very comforting to have one place on the road we can trust.
  22. To the OP...it sounds like you are planning on going gluten free no matter what the test results are. My poor brother went through everything you're going through, after battling depression and severe stomach pains for years, only to be told by his GI that he did not have Celiac, so go ahead and keep eating gluten. Now years later he's still on meds for...
  23. Here's one example. I was eating out with my daughter and ordered grilled salmon. Don't know why I assumed it would be grilled with olive oil, but shame on me for not clarifying. Anyhow I realized it was butter but kept eating anyway. By the end of the meal I felt like I'd had a couple of glasses of wine. That lasted the rest of the night and the next...

    ARCHIVED It's Annoying!

Hey, you're preaching to the choir here. I know. Long term risks aside, I would think the short term consequences would be enough to stop me...she talks about having to race out of the classroom to get to the bathroom on time (she's a teacher). She must not have other symptoms, at least that she notices. I for one would not be at work after the fact...
