ARCHIVED Croissant Recipe?
eatmeat4good replied to Gf Princess182's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh My God!!! You just made my day! No..my year!! I used to make croissants. I never thought there would be a gluten free version. It's close enough for me. I'm going to be so happy when I eat this. I just got dairy back too! After 19 months in gluten-free recovery. I'm so happy! Thank you! -
ARCHIVED Refeeding Edema? Anyone Else?
eatmeat4good replied to Emilem's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
To the above poster. Oatmeal is often contaminated with wheat. To the OP: I just had another thought for you. Soy. I gave up soy several months ago. I am 14 months gluten free and I have not had any swelling or edema really since I went Paleo 6 months ago or so and stopped eating grains. But the soy was seeming to bother me so I stopped that too.... -
ARCHIVED Refeeding Edema? Anyone Else?
eatmeat4good replied to Emilem's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a lot of edema before going gluten free and it took a while for it to resolve after going gluten free. What I think helped me was increasing the amount of protein I ate. When I did that and stayed consistent with it, the swelling started to subside. Vitamins were very important too. I'm assuming you have had your heart checked? Swelling and edema can... -
ARCHIVED Help! Need To Make Shopping List
eatmeat4good replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glutino pretzels do not have iodine in the salt. Someone posted about that a while back and I was so happy! I melt Dove Chocolate and dip the Glutino pretzels in it...yum! This is my splurge when I step down from Paleo eating for a while. Good luck to both of you! And congratulations on getting a gluten free household! What a relief I'm sure. And it... -
I survived the second day of drywall dust and I do not appear to have gotten glutened. I wore a mask all day, I had to shake out the dropcloths and clean up the dust and I'm sure it's still hanging in the air. So either the mask was really effective in keeping me from inhaling the dust particles with gluten...or....there wasn't any gluten in the drywall to...

ARCHIVED Seasonal Allergies Better?!?!?
eatmeat4good replied to BabsV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
All of my seasonal allergies disappeared the first year I was gluten free. And I was miserable with them before going gluten free. My son had seasonal allergies and was miserable with rhinitis and asthma all of his life. But all of it is gone now that the gluen is gone. I can't believe I did all of that dusting and vacuuming to protect us from pollen and... -

Oh you guys are the best! I appreciate your comments, information, and sense of humor...all of you. And Squirming...thank you so much for getting my joke about Captaincrab! I cringed after I posted it...but once it is sent...it is there forever. Ok, so I was awake and sleepless until 3 AM thinking about this issue. DH is so miserable that I just didn...

Good point Squirming! I have long hair...and wear a braid...but hadn't thought of the dust that will get in my hair. I will put it up and wear a mask and a shower cap! How about that! I guess I won't be flirting with any construction workers Monday! Won't I be cute? hey! Maybe Captaincrab?

Thanks everyone. Yes, this has been covered before. I googled gluten in drywall and came up with many posts about people getting sick from sheetrock/drywall. I am very low income and can't afford to be off work. BUT the drywall work is really minor repairs of nail holes and such. I think I will wear a mask and go all day without eating. I am really worried...

They will be doing drywall repairs at my place of work on Monday. I'm scared. I've read that drywall contains gluten. I have been gluten free for one year and six months. It took me 14 months to clear my DH rash. I don't know what to do. My boss told me about the repairs being done on Monday so I could decide what to do. Wear a mask? I've read that doesn...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For A Week Terrible Stomach Pain?
eatmeat4good replied to HairBearsandCares's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had horrible stomach pain the first month gluten free. I wasn't eating gluten free junk food, but I did not stop dairy. I didn't think it would be a problem for me. It was terrible. the only thing that helped was anti-nausea prescription meds. It got much better once I realized it was dairy. Just a thought. -
ARCHIVED Celiac In The Real World
eatmeat4good replied to Sarunski's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went Paleo to fix the problem. I have saved a ton of money. Meat, fruit, vegetables, nuts. A1 and mayo and mustard. No gluten free grain flours or products. If we crave a sweet I make Nestle toll house recipe and sub Almond flour for the flour portion. The more you eat mainly meat, the less you really have to buy all that other stuff. My food... -
ARCHIVED Upset, Confused, Venting, Scared & Frustrated
eatmeat4good replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
How ironic. I drank a diet coke earlier today thinking I may be able to tolerate one by now. That was early today before I read or posted. It wasn't gluten or iodine or anything. I have a new blister on the back of my neck. After one month with no sores at all. I sure hope it stops there. No more diet cokes. And I forgot to mention that sunshine is... -
ARCHIVED Upset, Confused, Venting, Scared & Frustrated
eatmeat4good replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm so sorry I didn't see your post as I haven't been on in a few days. I got Irish's E-mail and wanted to reply though others have given you great information. My DH was awful and I had 5 to 17 lesions mostly on my face, some on the back of my neck, and behind my ears. I noticed no improvement in the appearance of the sores for months, but they did stop... -
I have had DH on my lip on the edge just like herpes simplex. I have also had it inside my nose. It sucked because hit hurt bad and never healed. The Dr. said I think you have herpes. So he tested me for herpes. Yeah right. Something like 80% have the kind of herpes that causes cold sores. So I was postive and I was put on expensive anivirals for like...

ARCHIVED Can Gluten Affect You This Much Later?
eatmeat4good replied to SKACeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Give your body time, but be very vilgilant about cross contamination. Maybe your getting cc and you don't know it. Yes, your symptoms are normal Celiac symptoms...if getting gluten. Hope you find the source. Also, I agree with considering other food intolerances like said above. -
Symmetrical...appearing on both sides in the same place. However, mine was only symmetrical once. And I have had DH outbreaks dozens of times before I knew what it was. It isn't always symmetrical. I hate it that they describe it that way. It can still be DH if it isn't symmetrical. Disheartening to think people dismiss DH because their rash is not...

ARCHIVED Is There A Downside To The Rest Of Us Going "mostly Gluten-Free"?
eatmeat4good replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No you won't become "sensitive" to it unless you are already Celaic, or gluten intolerant. What happens sometimes is that people in the family find out that they, too, have gluten intolerance and they feel lousy when they return to a gluten filled diet. This means they had a problem with gluten but did not know it. A normal person without Celiac or gluten... -
ARCHIVED Using Otc Anti-Itch Cream On Dh
eatmeat4good replied to BeFree's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Benzocaine products work for the pain, sting and itch. Walgreens Pain Relieving Ointment Solarcaine Bactine They only work temporarily but sometimes it is a great relief. -
ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformis
eatmeat4good replied to itcheee12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, your description surely does sound like you may have DH. Dr.'s often do not recognize DH and I think you are wise to start your gluten free trial. Unless you want to be officially diagnosed. Then you would need to keep eating gluten to test positive. If you don't care about testing then it is fine to go gluten free to test if that is it. DH is... -
ARCHIVED Beginner Grocery List For Gluten Free Diet
eatmeat4good replied to jenn42's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Don't waste your money trying lots of breads because some of them are really awful. Most people like Udi's or Rudi's but if you buy Rudi's make sure you check the label they also make wheat breads. I agree with the above...and if you think you may have ever double dipped like baking soda after flour...throw it out. I use Garnier Fructis Shampoo... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Dh To Go Away After Glutening?
eatmeat4good replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I kept thinking I would heal in a couple of weeks, then a couple of months, but it actually took a year and a half to totally heal. I don't know if it was because I didn't limit iodine in the beginning, or because my episodes of glutening caused several more weeks of reactions, or both. Whatever the reason, this is my first month free of the DH and I had... -
I read that too. I guess it depends on how serious the kiss is. And of course how much gluten remains in the kisser.

ARCHIVED Wheat = All Gluten?
eatmeat4good replied to grey3098's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yes, I think it is safe to assume that you are reacting to gluten, and should avoid all wheat, barley and rye. If you ever get brave enough to test it again, you can, but for right now you want to get feeling better if your reactions are severe. Hope for you to feel good soon.
