ARCHIVED Decided I Want To Be Tested For celiac disease
eatmeat4good replied to Brittany85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have read that you have to eat the equivalent of 4 slices of bread a day for at least 3 months. The ask for a full Celiac Panel and an Endoscopy with biopsy to diagnose Celiac. If you already know the s$#&tiness of getting gluten, then I fear you are in for it if you challenge 3 months. There are threads on here about how to deal with gluten symptoms... -
I had this since childhood and I'm 48. Interstitial cystitis is what they called it. They kept me on anti-biotics for bladder infections even though there was no bacteria in the urine specimens. I guess they didn't know what else to do for me. It was so painful that the description of shards of glass is the only way to describe it. I had to pee...

Thank you for this. I had no idea. -
ARCHIVED Fell Off The Wagon.
eatmeat4good replied to Brittany85's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to get migraines all the time. For a few years they were daily. The migraine that happens with gluten is the worst, but they don't happen to me anymore unless I get CC'd accidentally. Don't listen to those who say Hypochondriac...because gluten really can give you all of kinds of symptoms. But this is your husband and it may be a problem if you are... -
ARCHIVED Godiva
eatmeat4good replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't buy them...I used to love them but the risk seems too great for me. I had too many years sick. I happily eat Dove Chocolate. I hope you post how you do with it. -
ARCHIVED This Only A Trial Test?
eatmeat4good replied to Jinx's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
ok, where is that killer link for a chocolate pie in a meringue shell? To OP: Welcome and I just want to say what a charming post you have written. It captures the complexity of the newly gluten free beautifully...complete with not "stepping on his gluten brain." You really have educated yourself aobut this very well. I agree with the idea... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease To Refractory Sprue
eatmeat4good replied to USF1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I don't know the answer but I wanted to empathize with your situation. How awful for you. I don't know if the cc can be coming from say Udi's or BRM. I have read that some Celiacs are sensitive to lower than 20 ppm. After all those years of diligence on your part. Eliminate all skin care with any gluten and cosmetics too..... -
ARCHIVED Smaller Amount - Faster Reaction?
eatmeat4good replied to llama3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, that is a pretty clear gluten reaction. I think you got your answer from your challenges. The testing is up to you, but you do have to keep eating gluten to test positive. Bloated, abdominal pain, sharp stabbing pains in the gut are gastrointestinal problems. The dizziness, tiredness and confusion are neurological symptoms. Gluten is toxic to... -
If it was the pizza place I wouldn't go. If I breathe in flour dust I get sick and every time I have tried to sit and chat in a pizza place, I got sick even though I didn't eat. As time goes on, I'm less inclined to want to accomodate others, and am more interested in accomodating myself so I can stay safe. But I also don't want to be anti-social. Of course...

Gluten Ataxia?
eatmeat4good replied to Krystal K.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just saw your next post about the road moving... Oh yes! I used to hate riding in a car because I felt like I was on a roller coaster. And sometimes I had to drive to the store so I would only let myself drive at night and very slowly to the nearest store to get food. It was like I was always about to fall off the edge of a cliff. I drove like I was... -
Gluten Ataxia?
eatmeat4good replied to Krystal K.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had this too for many years actually. It was awfully scary. I couldn't explain it to the Dr. as well as you did, but yes, "things kind of float around you" or you feel as if you aren't real. I had heart palpitations and felt as if I would faint. I stumbled and sometimes fell down. I fell in the shower too. It scared the heck out of me. My legs were wobbly... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics
eatmeat4good replied to dmb2151's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ha! Me too! I was going to say Irish Heart recommends Culturelle...but as you can see....she doesn't miss a beat!! Love ya Irish! And yes, I'm taking my Culturelle!! -
ARCHIVED Did Anyone Else Have This Issue?
eatmeat4good replied to Ryniev's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know how long you have been gluten free, but some people become ravenously hungry as they heal. I speculate it is the body trying to heal you and make up for lost time. I lost my appetite and never wanted to eat at all but I made myself eat. Then a few months later I got the "ravenously hungry" stage. It was strange to be eating so much and not feeling... -
ARCHIVED Things People Say To Celiacs
eatmeat4good replied to researchmomma's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just another story of Stupid Things People Say to Celiacs- My co-worker who knows I have Celiac served up cake for me...I said, no thank you. She said you can have some...there is no wheat in it...just sugar, flour, eggs, cocoa and butter. I said there is flour in it...she says yeah, but there is no wheat. I said um...Flour is wheat...she says...Oh My God... -
ARCHIVED Help I'm Not Sure What To Do
eatmeat4good replied to Jennifer C's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mushroom gives all good advice and the only thing I might suggest is anti-nausea medicine from the Dr. I had to take an anti-nausea medicine for a few weeks in order to keep from losing my food. It was Promethazine and it worked very well even at a low dose. You might check with the Dr. to see if you can have it or if it would be helpful. I ate pureed soups... -
ARCHIVED Dove Chocolate - Gluten Free?
eatmeat4good replied to alucard4545's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I love it!!! I eat the Dove Milk and Dark Chocolate with no problems...almost every day I might add. BUT I got a bag of Dove Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds and after I had eaten half the bag...read the label...and sure enough it says made in a facility that processes wheat. I didn't worry about it....but OMG did I get sick. So I consider Dove plain... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Detox
eatmeat4good replied to Brittany85's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Eat plainly and simply- whole foods. Take your vitamins. Drink lots of water. Sleep as much as you need to. Test vitamin levels if you haven't. Watch for cross-contamination. Minimize junk food and gluten free processed foods. That's about it! Time does the rest! -
ARCHIVED Next Steps?
eatmeat4good replied to waterfront's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is no order of operations for diagnosis...as you will find as you keep reading. Welcome! Some people struggle hard and long to get diagnosed. Others just drop gluten when they find it bothers them. I tried to get help for my rash, which turns out to be DH. But 3 dermatologists refused to biopsy or consider it anything significant except acne... -
ARCHIVED Not Tested Positive For Celiac..but I Have Many Symptoms
eatmeat4good replied to coastalstorm25's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had horrible daily migraines for years. When I went gluten free they went away except for menstrual migraine which actually got worse. This is consistent with what I have read in that the hormones start working again and the menstrual migraine can become worse but the daily migraines have all gone completely away with total elimination of wheat. Be careful... -
ARCHIVED Glutened! Who Was The Culprit?
eatmeat4good replied to rabbit24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Meat and vegetables will or should heal you. I get nauseous from too much gluten free stuff like Udi's even if it is safe for us. I don't know if it is Xanthan gum or what. I love Udi's and keep it around for snacks and treats...but it remains just that...snacks and treats. For my main healing food I eat meat and vegetables. Some fruit and nuts for dessert... -
ARCHIVED Where To Go Next?
eatmeat4good replied to Ninja's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't let the placebo effect concern you to the point that you doubt yourself on this. And I might also mention that if you start to feel lousy say...in a month or two...you should be aware that some people develop increased sensitivity to gluten and start reacting to smaller and smaller amounts. Meaning trace gluten and cross-contamination become more significant... -
ARCHIVED Where To Go Next?
eatmeat4good replied to Ninja's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your story is very well-written and you have done extremely well in figuring out what is wrong with you. So so happy for you that you know at such a young age. Your life will be immeasurably better than those like me (48)who have only known about gluten damage for a year or so. The diagnosis is only for you to know how to handle your symptoms. Some people... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Wants To Say Thank You
eatmeat4good replied to RuskitD's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you for writing that post. I've felt what you wrote at least a thousand times. When I found this place I had been sitting on the couch or sleeping for 5 long sick years...and was drugged out on "Fibromyalgia" meds and pain killers for my My Grain headaches. It was a nightmare...from which I awoke about a year ago when I found this place and other stories... -
ARCHIVED It Should Go Away
eatmeat4good replied to Eric096's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you had your vitamin levels checked? Are you supplementing calcium and vitamin D? Other vitamin deficiencies can contribute to the bone pain too. And cross contamination can too. even if you are doing everything right it can still take a long time to heal. but I will say that when I started supplementing vitamins, I felt better in a couple of... -
ARCHIVED Ever Changing Symptoms Of Celiac
eatmeat4good replied to Carla H's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My son's asthma completely went away when he went gluten free. He has had severe asthma his whole life. Go figure. All that prednisone and antibiotics and inhalers were for nothing. Yes, you can become increasingly sensitive to gluten. This sounds like what is happening to you. If your rash is Celiac DH, you will have to limit iodine in addition to watching...
