  1. Congratulations on figuring this out and doing what it takes to get better. I was sick a long time too and it feels absolutely amazing to get better and to be able to live your life. Welcome to the crowd! And give your wife a hug!
  2. I don't know the answer, but I will certainly be watching this post with interest as I loved Sees candy and if it is gluten free then some of those pounds I lost are coming back on I tell ya!
  3. Thanks for posting back. I have been wondering about you sitting there with that box of chocolates. If they didn't make you sick I might have tried them. Darn. But we are probably better off anyway. Lucky people at the office.
  4. Wow. It all adds up doesn't it? So sad that our kids have to feel that bad for that long. If I were a betting man...but I'm not... I'm just a Celiac woman who knows how it feels to be undiagnosed... but I would guess giving up gluten will make a world of difference to her. There are too many things going on there and such an uncanny resemblance to Celiac...
  5. If I were eating gluten, I wouldn't be able to stay awake at all. That was one of my worst problems. I don't think there is anything you can do to stop it while you are eating gluten. sorry
  6. That is how all my symptoms started. The rash was the worst. Yes, it could be Celiac. Ask for a Celiac Panel blood test from your Dr. Then ask for the biopsy of the rash next to the lesion. If these are refused then do yourself a favor and go gluten free. It worked for me and I was sick a lot of years. I hope it works for you too.
  7. My son had Man boobs until he was gluten free for 9 months. They disappeared entirely.
  8. Well congratulations! I'm very happy for you! I never gave up the coffee. But yeah, I have read that you can get a gluten-like reaction from coffee..or some people have. I skipped right over that part though, and probably made myself another cup of coffee. I hope you can keep enjoying it.
  9. When I started this ordeal all of the diet was free from RPAH. Wow! Have you tired going to Sue Dengate's website? She used to have all the lists there. I have a salicylate list.
  10. My son's whole entire childhood was one long asthma attack. Frequesntly with heart palpitations...either from the medications or from gluten...we really don't know. But I want to share that his asthma is totally and completely resolved since going gluten free one year ago. Fatigue and breathing problems kept him from functioning normally all of his childhood...
  11. Have you ever tried being gluten free? Certainly all of your symptoms are on the list of Celiac/Gluten Intolerance symptoms. If you can't or don't want to do the testing, give yourself a good few months being gluten free to see what can resolve if anything.
  12. Congratulations on feeling better! My headaches went away fast....and I never thought I would be free of them. It is amazing. Just be aware that CC is an issue and it can get worse over time. This was a scary realization to me. Now I know how to deal with it, but in the beginning it was like...are you serious? I can't even butter toast for the nieces...
  13. It isn't always symmetrical, but red, itchy, bumpy and over the joint areas make her rash sound very consistent with DH. They should be able to biopsy it next to the rash, but the biopsy isn't always positive even if it is DH. You could try avoiding gluten and see if she improves, but it takes very strict avoidance of gluten and cross contamination...
  14. Boy do I have Good News for you!! Glutino Pretzels are BETTER than regular pretzels. Everyone who eats mine says so and I totally agree. Also- If your weight gain is from malabsorption or inflammation you very well may lose the excess weight. I lost a lot in my one year gluten free. I had gained a horrible amount of weight being sick and...
  15. Thank you for posting this information. The last time I had a reaction I had only eaten glutino pretzels and wondered about the salt. I have DH. It turns out I was reacting to gluten CC and I eventually found the source and it wasn't their product. It is good to know they don't use iodized salt in their products. Especially for those of us with DH....
  16. DH reactions can take a very long time to calm down and heal following even trace gluten exposure. My reactions will last weeks. Some people are sensitive to salicylates. In the DH archives there is a thread about salicylates and DH. If you take Ibuprofen it can flare DH too. Even if you are able to tolerate it otherwise. I was taking it for the pain...
  17. Try Walgreens Pain Relieving Ointment for Boils. It is benzocaine and calms the pain and itching. I just read about Hydradenitis Suppurativa and suspect I have it too. Last time I had one was following gluten CC. It is very sensitive to gluten. The good news is it can go away when you go gluten free. I hope your test is soon so you can get relief.
  18. My son uses Nivea and has no reaction, but he doesn't use it on his face. I use pure almond oil for face and body. It is just almond oil. Very little cost and it moisturizes great. I get it for $5 at an international market. It is a huge bottle. If you get at a department store you will pay a lot for a tiny little bottle. It's wonderful stuff if you...
  19. Hi and welcome! It certainly does sound like your symptoms are caused by gluten. I too wondered about being tested...for about 24 hours. Then I couldn't stand it any longer...I just had to know if gluten was the issue. So I quit it. All the sleepiness, fatigue, irritability, irrational anger, sores that wouldn't heal and weight gain resolved. I had muscle...
  20. It's not in your head, it's in your gluten foods. You challenged it often, now you just have to figure out how to believe it or get tested.
  21. Ugh, the rash and all your symptoms certainly sound like Celiac. I agree with biopsy of the rash if you can. It might be the quickest way to get diagnosed. You don't wanna feel like crap for the next 3 months. But I have also read that if you are not eating gluten your rash may test negative. good luck
  22. Hi and welcome. So sorry you are itching and hurting so badly. There is a pain relieving ointment by Walgreens called Pain Relieving Ointment for Boils. It is Lidocaine and it works great to stop the itching. Bactine spray also works great. Maybe for the scalp you should use the Bactine...it is more watery and not a greasy and thick as the cream. They both...
  23. Yes, it can show up at any time. Yours may have been in say "remission" during the times you were gluten free. There are some Celiacs who have silent symptoms yet they are Celiac all their life. There is also research to show that there is often a "triggering event" like a stressful or traumatic situation. Celiac is genetic, but it takes a triggering...
  24. What were you dealing with before changing your diet?
  25. Oh yes I have. Your story reads like my own. the anxiety, despair, weight gain, feeling unreal, Dr.'s not believing anything is wrong, attributing everything to anxiety or implying that I was a hypochondriac. I had migraines and muscle weakness so severe I could hardly walk. Then pain pills, and a nightmarish depression that lasted for years in addition...
