  1. I did the same thing on New Year's eve. Went out to dinner and planned not to eat. But huge shrimp were being served and they looked yummy. I DID know about the iodine connection and I did it anyway. I thought I had been glutened too. My sores are all on my face though, so no hiding the oubreak. If there is anything you can be grateful for it is that your...
  2. I was really overweight and miserable. I'm 5 ft. tall and when I was active and healthy weighed between 115 and 120 until I started getting sick. Then the weight went up to almost 200 pounds. I wasn't able to eat or drink very well. I stayed sick for 7 years with Dr.'s calling it Fibromyalgia...when in fact, I am Celiac. When I figured it out I was thrilled...
  3. Walgreens brand of Pain Relieving Ointment is benzocaine and works great to numb the pain and itching. Just another option.
  4. It can take a long time to heal if you don't restrict the iodine very seriously. I'm one year and 4 months gluten free. This is the first time I am free of DH lesions. I kept finding out iodine was in things I didn't know were high in iodine. Get plain uniodized salt. Don't eat salty processed foods as they may or may not have iodized salt on them. It was...
  5. That is a pretty good diet really. What are you feeling that you are missing? I eat the same diet minus the rice but plus Dove Chocolate. I feel fantastic on it.
  6. Many people with gluten problems also have problems with Soy. If you don't get better with gluten elimination you might try eliminating the edamame. I didn't think I would be sensitive to soy but it turns out it is really bad for me. Especially causing problems with depression and anxiety that happen almost instantly whenever I get either gluten or soy. I...
  7. Try thyca.com for the low iodine diet. Any time I eat salty food I get a reaction. DH is very sensitive to cross contamination so you have to be really careful. Reactions can last a long time. You already know that though huh? Glad you found us. Hope your dermatologist listens, but I have found they don't like to be told what to do. 3 refused to biopsy me...
  8. No I didn't know about Celiac until I was 47 so I was not diagnosed at the time I took the Accutane. I hope you find someone who can help. One thing to try is giving up dairy and all grains not just wheat. Some people have had great success curing their acne problems this way. When I was on Atkins diet years ago my acne miraculously went away. I'm only...
  9. When I was considering McDonald's fries I read about this issue. I read that while there may be dedicated fryers and gluten free fries, at the end of a shift, all of the oil is strained to filter out food particles and then combined in a large vat to store until it is re-used to fill the fryers the next day. That would make the fries contaminated. I do not...
  10. I suffered from bone and joint pain terribly before I knew I had Celiac. Supplementing Calcium and D and being gluten free have eliminated it. Maybe the other vitamins help too. I take a lot of C.
  11. Skylark that is very interesting. Thank you. I always wondered about the wheat in soy sauce...and why it was there. Hmm very interesting.
  12. Oh my...at least do not cook with wheat flour. It can become airborne and hang in the air where you breathe it and then swallow it. And there are a million ways to get contaminated in a shared kitchen. Shared pots and pans, collanders, toasters, food surfaces, towels, dishes, spoons cutting boards. Your food needs to be kept totally separate.
  13. Good for you insisting on the blood test. And I think your Dr. is absolutely wrong that if it comes back postiive it doesn't necessarily mean it is Celiac. Your mother has Celiac. He should have agreed to test you on that basis alone. Wow. They never cease to amaze me. Just to let you know....for years I developed several different looking rashes until the...
  14. You will only be missing out on extra carbs. Meat is a better choice for the protein and if you really want the carbs you can replace it with any gluten free grain you want. I became intolerant of lentils and chickpeas and soy. So I do not eat them at all. Strictly Paleo. Meat, veg, fruit, nuts. It works great and feel wonderful on it. I hope never...
  15. Yes. Definitely gluten related for my son. He was ADD with no hyperactivity. Gluten fog. Neurological effects of gluten. Age 7 to 15 he was in a gluten fog. Now at 17 he is bright, happy, funny, outgoing, mentally clear. It can definitely be gluten-related. If only Dr.'s knew. I had depression, anxiety and obsessive thinking. All of it is gone off of gluten...
  16. I took Accutane the year it came out for cystic acne. I still needed antibiotics. Ten years later I had to repeat the full course of Accutane. Still the cystic acne returned. Antibiotics never worked on my acne either. Being gluten free did. I am not one who thinks the Accutane caused my Celiac. I think Celiac and gluten caused my "acne". Later developed...
  17. I'm Paleo and I'm a "Gluten Gainer" to put it mildly. At my sickest I was 200 pounds of depressed and anxious fibromyalgia ridden fatigued woman. But I'm really Celiac. I lost steadily being gluten free. But when I started eating way more meat and vegetables is when I really started to gain energy. Do you eat red meat? You might try it. I find it much...
  18. If your child has Celiac and you were really good at avoiding gluten, then the antibodies may have calmed down. The reaction time can be delayed. They used to think children outgrew Celiac for this reason. Later they learned that was not the case. The irritability would be consistent with the neurological reactions of Celiac. Symptoms can change over time...
  19. My son lost his sense of smell at age 7. Gluten free at 16. Sense of smell is returning. Vitamin deficieny symptom??
  20. Hey that is wonderful! So happy you are healing.
  21. In the beginning I didn't worry about either the shared facilility or the shared lines. I was overwhelmed just trying to be gluten free. The fact that something could say gluten free and still be contaminated with gluten was too much for me to comprehend. I didn't let it worry me. I thought I wouldn't be that sensitive. As I healed and time went on, I noticed...
  22. It probably took about 3 months to really start noticing that the belly was disappearing. It can happen. In second grade I looked at all the other little girls and wondered why they had no belly and I had a huge belly. We ate the same things. I also have had a Flat butt my whole life with no muscle tone at all. Guess what girl? I have a butt now too! I look...
  23. You would be perfect for Paleo...then you just have to fry meat and steam vegetables. Spend your food stamps on meat and vegetable only and leave the carbs alone. You won't regret it. Even though you will have cravings, your dollar will be spent on actual nutrition...not empty carbs. Mark's Daily Apple if you are interested. I had to be on food stamps too...
  24. I'm 48 and have had a belly my whole life. I am one year gluten free. My belly is flat...let me say that again. My belly is FLAT!!! And my abdominal muscles are miraculously appearing from nowhere. Now I have an empty potato sack of skin...but I'm telling you...the belly is gone! I hope this happens to you too. It was an absolute miracle to find...
