  1. Intoxicated feeling? Oh yes, I know that one well. I lived that way for a few long years in fact. But recently after one year gluten free, I just had a gluten disaster where I was working with an elderly man who wanted to show me how he makes oyster crackers like chex party mix. He put them in a container to shake them and lo and behold the lid came off and...
  2. If what you are calling excema is really a form of DH - the skin form of Celiac, then eggs can cause a reaction because they are high in iodine. Dairy too. You might try the thyca.com diet to see if you are sensitive to iodine. Gluten and iodine are terrible for DH. Even traces of gluten cause me to have skin reactions for weeks. Hope it's not DH, but...
  3. Suspect the dairy. Even though it hasn't been a problem for you in the past. It happened to me too. Ugh.
  4. I had a lot of stomach rumbling and nausea in the first few months gluten free. Your stomach isn't used to not having to deal with gluten. I had to use Promethazine by prescription for the nausea. I decided the "baby villi" were just trying to grow back. It was a long few months and I had secondary intolerances too. I didn't think I would have the secondary...
  5. I have DH and it took me a year to figure out that too many salicylates are really bad for it. Salicylates are cumulative...if I have too many I react...small amounts of the same foods and maybe no reaction. So it is really really difficult to figure out the culprit sometimes. You will have to learn the amount of salicylates he can tolerate if this is part...
  6. I had muscle weakness, joint and bone pain and severe brain fog...to the point of being unable to complete sentences. It was all related to wheat. It all disappeared when I got rid of gluten. I had 25 Dr.'s in 8 years and none of them saw a red flag or diagnosed me. Among them were Rheumatologists, Dermatologists, Psychiatrists, Internists, General Practitioners...
  7. I read about Celiac after being sick for literally years. I considered testing and biopsy for say um...24 hours. To me it wasn't worth the wait to get a Dr. appt a week away for a blood test and sure as heck would not wait a year for a biopsy. If gluten is a problem...get rid of it. I never have regretted that decision. I wish I hadn't even waited 24 hours...
  8. Thank you for sharing that information. I didn't realize it either and I am very grateful. Hope you are feeling great soon.
  9. The "butterflies" were a neurological symptom of Celiac for me. It was both physical and mental. I described it as "raw fear" for no reason. It was horrible. Also I gained weight really rapidly and felt weak and fatigued. You are right it is very uncomfortable. Eventually I was unable to formulate sentences due to the brain fog. It was awful. I want to encourage...
  10. Oh you must be miserable and trying to deal with all of this yourself. I think you must go strictly gluten free and watch for traces too. Try to eat as much meat, veggies and nuts as you can tolerate. The protein will go a long way toward giving you your health back. Stay away from starches and carbs since they are making you feel miserable. Once you have...
  11. You need to add meat to your diet to be able to heal. Protein is very important to healing DH. It was for me anyway. It took me a full year to get the lesions under control. You must limit your iodine intake by using a diet like the thyca.com site advises in their low iodine cookbook. Dairy and eggs make my DH go absolutely mad. Both must be high in iodine...
  12. Testing wasn't a big deal to me. I pondered it for maybe one day. I decided the result would be the same in all cases. I was sick and I thought gluten was my problem. So it didn't make sense to continue to eat something that could be making me very very sick just to be able to let the Dr. tell me to go gluten free. The possible outcomes did not make testing...
  13. I don't let people cook for me. I tell them I'm sorry but if you have ever used wheat flour in your kitchen then the food would not be safe for me. It only takes particles to make me sick. That usually does it. I don't feel bad about it and they don't feel like they have to learn to cook gluten free. Win Win.
  14. I'm excited for you! You are going to be feeling soooo much better soon!
  15. Regarding fat- Full fat is good for you. Do some reading at Mark's Daily Apple and I'm sure there are other places too that can expalin the benefits of fat. I have no problem digesting fats now that I am long-term gluten free. Your body will adjust. Your body needs fat and your brain and heart work well on it. It flies in the face of traditional medicine...
  16. Good advice on increasing protein....eat it like you were eating your rice krispy treats...it will heal your body. Check out Paleo diets which focus on protein, veggies, nuts and some fruit. The Paleo way of eating is perfect for Celiacs and those with blood sugar problems. Check out Mark's Daily Apple.com
  17. I am 5 ft tall but have been up to 200 pounds several times in my life...always came with severe depression/anxiety and diarrhea. Later DH sores. Was 180 when I realized I had Celiac. Now 115 and eat way more than I did when I was fat. Muscle tone is still improving one year gluten free. DH was my worst symptom...and the last to go.
  18. I had terrible nausea...for two months....my stomach rumbled and growled and seemed to be "waking up". I took promethazine to calm the symtoms. It worked very well for me. After two months it went away. I decided it was my "baby villi" growing back. But your body will do some weird things in the process of healing. Promethazine is by prescription and my dr...
  19. I had DH on my chin too. I used Walgreens brand of Pain Relieving Ointment which is benzocaine and it numbs the stinging itching pain of DH. Only works for a little while but it is welcome relief. My chin scarred bad because I had DH for years without knowing what it was. Now lesions are clear but if I get any gluten...here goes the cycle again. Bactine...
  20. Vitamin B complex may help. Vitamin B deficiency can cause skin/lip problems. Try supplementing and if this is what it is it should go away in a fairly short time. If it is DH, you may have to use the low iodine diet from thyca mentioned above. Eggs and dairy cause my DH to flare due to the iodine content...but a few days of elimination was not enough...
  21. The percentage of false negatives on Celiac testing is pretty high. There is nothing wrong with assuming you have Celiac because of all the symptoms you have. You might find out you have Celiac or Gluten Intolerance regardless of the test results. The answer is in how eliminating gluten makes you feel. I hope you have found your answer to all of your...
  22. You can have gluten intolerance which can cause as many problems for you as Celiac. The only way to know is to continue to be gluten free and observe your symptoms. Celiac can be falsely negative...so if in fact you want to continue being gluten free and challenge later by eating gluten then you don't have to tell everyone you are negative for Celiac. Your...
  23. The mental effects of gluten hit me the hardest and the fastest if I've gotten traces of gluten. If you have been gluten free for that long, it seems this could be cross contamination rather than withdrawal like Skylark said. The mental fog and almost deliriously ill feeling were always directly related to gluten. I hope you find the source soon.
  24. Does he have sores or a painful itchy rash that blisters?
  25. Yes, you might want to have a Celiac diagnosis...to avoid long years of pain and sitting on the couch with Fibromyalgia as a diagnosis. I diagnosed myself with this site, or I would still be on all those meds and wondering what the hell was wrong with me and being unable to use my muscles. Remember even if the tests don't come out positive...you can still...
