  1. Salicylates could be bothering you if you are in an outbreak of DH...especially since you had the anaphalactic reaction. You might want to limit salicylates...the effect is cumulative and it might be that you just hit your max on salicylate tolerance. I have DH. It is sensitive to gluten, iodine, and salicylates. It took me a freaking year to figure out what...
  2. I'm with you. I drive down the street looking at all the food advertisements thinking... "Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a whole gluten free city in United States?!" When they start one...I'm moving there...I swear!
  3. Takala- I didn't know all that regarding the kidneys and calcium...very good information. Thank you very much.
  4. Oh my...I agree something is wrong here. I feel for her and for you. I just want to verify that depression and bladder urgency mimicking UTI are both consistent with glutenings and so is muscle aches. I had the UTI sense of urgency for years and years. I was on antibiotics constantly. When I went gluten free it cleared up in a couple of months. Never ever...
  5. Being sick with Celiac somehow changed my taste and my son's too. After being gluten free foods started to taste good again and foods we didn't like before are suddenly tasting wonderful. Your tastes may change for the better when you go gluten free. Protein is excellent for Celiac's and it promotes healing of all the tissues that need to heal. I eventually...
  6. I don't think it rules you out of Gluten Intolerance OR Celiac. There are over 300 symptoms...I was sick long before I got gastrointestinal symptoms. There are neurological, dermatological and gastrointestinal symptoms of Celiac. My younger sister is very sensitive to gluten and she describes heart palpitations and sweating and feeling feverish on any...

    ARCHIVED Dapsone

Open Original Shared Link Here is a link about how to limit iodine. The diet still allows 50 mcg. of iodine, therefore it is a "low", not "no" iodine diet. But to heal DH and get the antibodies to stop reacting some people need to restrict iodine. Spinach, Potato skins, asparagus, and eggs were hidden sources of iodine that I had to address. The diet is...

    ARCHIVED Dapsone

I took it for two weeks and loved it. It really worked. But the 15th day I broke out from head to toe with a bright red pinpoint-dotted rash all over. My legs were just completely covered. Of course I immediately stopped taking it. It took a long time for that rash to subside...but it wasn't itchy like DH. Of course the DH came back...and I had to avoid Iodine...
  9. You asked about how other's react so I'm going to chime in though I'm a little late. I accidentally got barley malt in a candy bar I thought was gluten free. As I bit into the bar, I turned it over to read the ingredients. Crap. Barley Malt. I thought it would be a mild reaction because I spit it out, brushed my teeth and threw the rest away. I was wrong...
  10. Without a doubt if I had a baby, that baby would be gluten free. Gluten is not necessaary for life. You are not harming your baby in any way if you never feed him gluten. You want to be able to kiss and nuzzle your baby. Your baby needs you to kiss and nuzzle him way more than he needs gluten. If I got life threatening reactions like yours there...
  11. I'm not a child, but my stomach hurt really bad the first month I was gluten free. I was terribly lethargic and slept like 12 hours a day. I was strictly gluten free, but the withdrawal effects of gluten and just the recovery from what all that gluten did to my body...took time to heal. Moody and tired...and nauseous is how I would describe the first weeks...
  12. I got those little blisters on my fingers between my fingers or on my joints...long before I got a full blown DH rash. I wish I had known that was DH back then. I always got it when I baked bread...little intensely itchy painful blisters...they went away in a few days. The later rashes lasted months and months..even gluten free...takes months to heal. Wish...
  13. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia...and was told I wouldn't get any better. Just to learn to live with it. Many long years until I found this place. 6 months into being gluten free and I no longer had any symptoms of Fibromyalgia...at all...But give me some trace gluten or CC and Wham...I'm back on the couch and unable to move without pain, painful muscles...
  14. Yes, that is right... a new accupuncturist. Your antibodies are down...so less reaction. They used to think children outgrew Celiac...and they returned them to a gluten diet...that is probably how they found out about all the long term damage that can occur and the secondary auto-immune diseases...and lymphoma's. Take a deep breath and be grateful...
  15. I start bumping walls, losing coordination, dropping and fumbling things in the kitchen, am unable to put thoughts into words, and it is so profound that I feel dazed and confused and appear to be "drunk". I have fallen down and lose my bearings on reality. I feel delirious and nauseous and grief-stricken at the same time, but I am unable to express any of...
  16. This is a really big change for you. Give yourself some time to adjust. I'm glad your boyfriend is supportive of you. I kind of want to say it is ok to be obsessed with Celiac and gluten for a while so you can really understand how to deal with the disease and then when you are good at it, it won't have to define who you are. It will just be a part of you...
  17. 5000 mg a day for 6 months to get just inside normal range on blood tests. I thought it helped with everything, sleep, digestion, depression, being able to contract my muscles properly, but then again, just being off of wheat for 6 months could have helped all those things too.
  18. Don't use foods sold in bulk. They tend to be contaminated with wheat. I buy nuts from NutsOnline.com they have a great selection of gluten free foods. Iodine is present in a lot of foods. Dairy, eggs, asparagus, fish, shellfish, and potato skins come to mind. You can google Iodine restricted diet, and find out what foods to limit. My rash is extremely...
  19. Maybe your body wants you to be Paleo?? Meats, fats, and veggies...
  20. False negatives are very common. Allergy tests are not 100% reliable. Some say they are not very reliable at all. Sometimes you can only find out your intolerances by avoiding them and re-introducing them just like you did. Your baby's diarrhea, persistent cough and bad mood could very definitely be related to gluten. My son had those issues when he was...
  21. It would be great if your symptoms resolve. I "missed the plot" for 47 years. I feels really good to be able to get the plot now. Being gluten free is a bit "messy" in the beginning as you will have to clean out the kitchen and bathroom of gluten, and I invariably got sick on those days. But when you figure it out and you start to enjoy cooking and eating...
  22. Welcome! I too, was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Scots/Irish descent, and right down the line of your other symptoms too. I cannot help you with the testing, but I can encourage you to try being gluten free because I am 90% better than I was a year ago and the only treatment has been being gluten free. I couldn't bear to do the testing because I had lost...
  23. Self-Diagnosed with Celiac/DH through Celiac.com- Age 47 Gluten Free- 1 Yr. 80 to 90% better
  24. Yeah, shopping is hard at first. You can google gluten free shopping lists that will give you items that are gluten free. The caution is that labels still need to be read as ingredients can change. I started with the lists. Very helpful when you are overwhelmed. I try not to buy anything in a package or bottle. Just shop the fresh produce and meat....
  25. That is very interesting...because in the beginning of this ordeal with trying to eat gluten free, I chose to eat crawfish reasoning that maybe they were expensive, but I deserved "better" food because I was gluten free and wouldn't be eating out anymore much. I ate them for 3 days straight...(frozen cleaned tails) Yumola!!! However, they made my sores and...
