  1. Some people have intolerance or allergy to corn. You might want to read up on that too.
  2. Knowledge is Power! You KNOW your enemy is Gluten! And now you know your other enemy is your Sister! Stop taking her word for anything and don't eat from anything she has touched...ever. She doesn't get it...but you do! So protect yourself from her. I agree with the suggestions above. Make your own food at all times, unless your mom made something...
  3. Sorry you are feeling so bad. I know it sucks. If you want the testing you have to keep eating gluten to have the tests be accurate. But...if you think this is your answer, you can just go gluten free. Your moods can be seriously effected by gluten. Part of why you may be feeling so awful. Welcome to the board and ask all the questions you want. Everyone...
  4. Yes, thank God for the internet or you and I and many others would still be suffering. Sorry about your Grandmother...it's really tragic...I think of my Dad who is no longer living...who obviously had this all his life....and wonder what he would have been like off gluten. He had horrible moods, anger and spent a lot of time in the BR and had no muscle...
  5. Oh wow! Another walking poster child for Celiac/Gluten Intolerance. And Oh my God...Another ignorant GI who doesn't know endoscopy from colonoscopy. Try to get the endoscopy. If you can't or if it comes up negative, try the gluten free diet stricly for several months. Gluten Intolerance is every bit as miserable to live with as Celiac...tests or no tests...
  6. A few months after I went gluten free I started getting really dramatic stomach rumbling that was constant every day for a few weeks. I didn't have any other symptoms of glutening so I just stayed the course with the gluten free diet and I imagined it was my "Baby Villi" growing back. I don't know if it was or not...but eventually it went away as I healed...
  7. I also wanted to add that at the very least you should have your vitamin levels checked. Celiacs are often deficient in A, E, D, K, iron, magnesium, calcium and zinc. In my case, only D was low, but after supplementing for a couple of months at 5,000 mg a day plus calcium, my joints felt waaaaayyyy better. D is fat soluble and you can get too much so you...
  8. Hi Ron, First of all, your journey was much the same as mine, in searching for answers from docs. I had really bad joint, bone and muscle pain. They just said Fibromyalgia...when the Lupus tests came back negative. But...it is interesting that I did just the same as you....went gluten free when I found Celiac on this site...used whey protein shakes, got...
  9. At Arby's you have to be sure to mention it is an "allergy" or that it is serious. Sometimes they will forget and put it on a bun and then just remove the bun and send it back to you. Watch them make it. Or check your meat for crumbs. I tell them the bun can't touch the meat or I will be very sick. As for how you eat it ....pick it up with your fingers and...
  10. Any degree of positive is a positive on the Celiac blood panel. The biopsy may or may not be positive but you are allowed to go gluten free and see if it helps you. You only have to eat gluten until the biopsy is taken. Then you can eliminate it. Many people have positive blood work and negative biopsy. AND many people do not test positive on either but...
  11. Yes, it's true...kisses can gluten you. I call it the "kiss of death" I didn't believe it at first... Thought...ah, that won't happen to me.... Had a dinner date and a goodnight kiss.... And yes, I got sick. Never again. It's not worth it. Full glutening symptoms just from a kiss.
  12. Thank God your Dr. finally figured it out! And now you will get better! Think fresh meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and forget the packaged goods for best results. I did use dairy in the beginning and ignored the advice not to eat dairy. Later I regretted that decision...several months later I realized dairy was not OK for me. Most newly diagnosed...
  13. At my worst I could only tolerate meats, meat broths, and water. Slowly add in one food at a time...give each new food at least 3 days. I agree with the others to have vitamin levels checked. Protein helps you heal. Be sure you get enough. Are you vegan? If so, sorry bout the meat suggestions.
  14. I'd tell them no thanks...I got my answer and I'm feeling better. But if you want the testing...you have to continually put gluten in your body at a pretty heavy rate..like 3 to 4 slices of bread a day until the testing is over...and you still may not test positive...but if you felt better off of it...stay gluten free.
  15. Yes, you may have gotten lucky. I have read that sensitivity can drastically increase immediately after going gluten free, but then after years of being gluten free, the antibodies are not "right there on the ready" to make you extremely sick...and for this reason, some people used to believe that they had recovered from Celiac...when in fact there is no...
  16. And a lot of them should really have been "Artists" instead of Doctors...at least in my experience...
  17. I use the Shan spice mixes all the time. I have never gotten sick but I had no idea about the Asafoetida or hing. Thank you for this information, I was only avoiding the ones that listed wheat on the label...
  18. I guess you could sand off a whole layer of your wooden spoons if you were desperate to keep them. I read on here one guy literally sandblasted his cast iron pan down to the next layer....that took care of his gluten problem!
  19. That is great! Sounds like you did an excellent job of planning and preparing for this trip and your tips are so helpful to the rest of us. Thanks!
  20. I was just thinking about you again. Like a 1956chill said, you should have your vitamins checked. That's what I loffed back in to say, and she had brought it up- very good. Are you taking vitamins? Many of the deficiencies can cause exhaustion, particularly C, D, B's and B 12, folic acid, iron, magnesium, calcium and zinc are commonly deficient in Celiacs...
  21. I don't know as much as some of the other thyroid poster's here but I will try to explain what I understand. I have Hashimoto's. But my TSH level is "normal" so they don't want to medicate right now. With Hashimoto's it is common for the thyroid to swing between hyper and hypo causing the thyroid to overfunction and underfunction in intervals. The thyroid...
  22. Here is some information on Cetaphil that was discussed here recently.
  23. I've never seen one, but I think we should start compiling one here of all the ways we have glutened ourselves accidentally or where we have found trace gluten. Good idea.
  24. Open Original Shared Link This is where I get my chia seeds. Just started using them and really like them, but haven't used them as egg replacer. Just wanted you to know about this source. They also have a huge selection of Certified gluten-free foods. Open Original Shared Link
  25. Open Original Shared Link I found this interesting and came across it this morning so thought I would share when your post came up.
