  1. Thank you Cass. You are a gem. At least I can ask for these things you listed. Thanks again.
  2. When people show you who they really are...believe them. --Maya Angelou I think it speaks to his problem solving, judgment, and willingness to ignore something really significant regardless of the consequences. You have to ask yourself how this will work in the long term. Not just with his Celiac but with other...
  3. Dilaudid, 2 mg. for migraine headaches. I have used Ultram before but it made me really nauseous. However that was before being diagnosed, so it could have been gluten and not the med that I was reacting to.
  4. And the small amount of blood was one of my son's symptoms...this was happening long before he developed the diarrhea. Eventually it became diarrhea. I think you are getting your answer before your symptoms get worse. I wish I had figured that out for him. He was concerned about it, but it was just a little amount and the Dr.'s weren't concerned about it...
  5. Yours is a very common reaction. I've read those symptoms a lot around here. I hate to hear it lasts weeks too. I hope things settle down for you really soon.
  6. And then have some delicous cake for dessert! And a buttery croissant before bed! Hey! Ya gotta test it right? Good luck, I hope you don't get too sick, but I hope you enjoy your pizza!
  7. There is a UFC fighter who recently found out he has Celiac. It was very inspirational to my son. There was an article posted here about this guy earlier this week. Don't know if that counts as a celebrity, but it did the trick for my son!
  8. Takala! You are hilarious! That is just the sort of thing that will help him get over it! When my son was 6 he fell and scraped both knees and was horrified that he had ruined his knees for good. I said, "Oh no! The skin grows back, but for now we just give them a name." He named them Rough and Tough. That made him feel good. Much simpler issue...
  9. I'm going to tag along here. I just scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. Could one of you experts please list all the thyroid tests we should have run? TSH T3 T4 Reverse T3 Free T3 Free T4 Hashimoto's Antibodies Peroxidase Antibodies That is what I got so far from this post. What are the graves antibodies test...
  10. Aww Nutmeg! I wish you didn't have to feel so awful. I understand the fear of regressing and losing it all. I have those thoughts too. I don't really have any thyroid answers for you, but I think you are right. One person's level is not the same as another's. I just read a bit about thyroid and it seems that some Dr.'s are now understanding this concept and...
  11. I'd say that was enough of a challenge to say I was gluten intolerant at least. How long does the Dr. want you to do this? I'd call and tell them what was happening to you. If you aren't trying for more testing, then I'd say you figured out that gluten is a problem for you.
  12. I had this as a child, and my mother always sent me to school. Another stomach ache? Well, just go to school and you will feel better. I felt dizzy, nauseous, anxious, scared out of my mind but didn't know why. I "knew" others didn't feel this way. I could tell by how they acted. I knew I wanted to be normal, so I acted like they did. I had sharp stomach...
  13. Consider other food allergies. This can keep you from losing weight and having a lot of inflammation. You could be allergic to something you eat every day. Other posts on here about elimination diets. Some people have to cut out all the top allergens in order to find out. It's really hard to do, but it might be worth it to you.
  14. Before I found out I had Celiac DH, the pharmacist suggested I might be allergic to PABA which is contained in a lot of soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotions. A rash like that is scary and frustrating. If Benadryl doesn't resolve it you might need to go to the Dr. Not that they can really tell what caused it, but a short course of Prednisone might...
  15. So sorry that happened Irish! You did not need that too! I hope you feel better soon.
  16. Udi's- I haven't tried any other. It is perfect for my needs. Hope you like it.
  17. Pizza in a Pinch Udi's Bread- Toasted Put one spoon of Tomato sauce (I use Basil/Garlic) Layer Pepperoni String Cheese cut in half lengthwise and crosswise. Lay 2 or 3 of the cheese on each slice of toast. Broil in toaster oven until the cheese melts and slightly browns. Yum! Y'all made me hungry for pizza so I had to come up with something...
  18. Wow! I think I will get a pressure cooker for sure! My mother used to cook with one all the time and she loved it. The broth and soups....my mind is rolling now. Do you have a cookbook? Or how do you know how long to cook each thing? I guess google can help. This could be fun!
  19. My son's asthma that he has had since childhood went away. He is 4 months gluten free. Had to use inhaler one time in all these months. She might be happy about going gluten free once she learns what it can help with. I worried about how my son would take it too. Now he tells everyone how brilliant his mom is to have figured it out. I never...
  20. To be honest, I saw 3 dermatologists who refused to do the biopsy. Even seeing a specialist is no guarantee of getting the biopsy. It all depends on who you get and how confident they are of their own diagnosis. The fine line you walk is that DH is not tested for unless there is a high degree of suspicion that it is DH. The high degree of suspicion...
  21. Aha! Thank you Peter! That explains how I got glutened then! So having gluten free hand sanitizer is really of no value if what you want off your hands is gluten. Back to soap and water. Thank you very much. I rarely win arguments with my teen, but this one I did! But not before I stupidly tested my theory first.
  22. I have a question about hand sanitizer. There is sort of an ongoing dispute in my home. I prefer hand washing with soap and water...the good old fashioned way. My son constantly uses hand sanitizer. The question has come up between us as to whether the sanitizer can get rid of gluten if there is gluten on your hands. I told him gluten is not...
  23. Welcome! I just want to wish you well. I read your post with interest. Amazing his labs are improved. I hope you both feel great soon. Good thing you stayed proactive and didn't just listen to the Dr.'s.
  24. Anybody from Switzerland want to start sending tests to us? This sounds great. Hope it comes here soon.
  25. Well, the easiest way is to say you are allergic to wheat, even though that doesn't really tell the whole story. That is the point really, when you want to just briefly state what the problem is. However, in my experience, sometimes in spite of my best intentions, it leads to a more in depth description. The first time I tried to be low key but order...
