  1. Your diet is all starches and carbs even though it is natural foods. You are not getting enough protiens and fats to balance things out. Since you don't eat meat I am not real sure what you should eat for protiens and fats. I would cut out the rice and potatoes because those are pure starch. Try adding nuts to you diet because they have fats and protien in...

    ARCHIVED Soy Allergy?

I think soy might be a problem for me also. I had some chips and ice cream made with soy, don't remember the brands a couple of months ago. I am quite certain there was no gluten involved. The reaction was very different from a gluten reaction. With gluten I experience mostly fatigue and lots of brain fog and bloating. With the soy there was fatigue but it...
  3. Apples do not agree with me at all. I used to think it was the fructose but I ate a peach everyday for the last 5 days and had no problems. There may be sonething to this.
  4. I have to be almost fanatical about my diet and exercise. But sometimes just when my abs really start looking ripped the bloating hits. There just isn't anything I can do but be vigilant about my diet and exercise.
  5. This message board is one of the best ones out there. This forum is about celiac disease, not who has superior geek skills. You will not get flamed if you ask a "dumb" question or post something in the wrong spot. If anybody does that I don't think Scott will put up with that kind of behavior for very long if at all. The moderators will move your post to...
  6. What you are describing sounds more like vaso vagel syndrome (sp?). This is an abnormal adrenaline response caused by the blood in your body shifting when you get up. This causes your heart to beat inefficiently. I used to have this really bad before going gluten-free and it is no longer a problem. Brain fog is basically the inability to concentrate. My...
  7. You can't outgrow it. I had periods of time where it would go into remission. In my 30's it stopped going into remission and the symptoms became very bad. This disease is genetic in origin and once you've got you will always have it.
  8. My ex-wife didn't get it at all and my girlfriend is almost a little too supportive. She is quite the baking expert and would love to bake all kinds gluten-free cookies and cakes. The problem is that I don't like to eat sugary, starchy foods because they make me gain weight real fast. Those abs I've worked so hard on would be gone in a week. This has become...
  9. If you are getting acid reflux it means you are eating CRAP! It is your guts way of telling you that you are eating garbage. I used to get acid reflux really bad but haven't had it in over a year. The doctors I went to were quick to sell me some pills but never onced suggested changing my diet.
  10. MD = "More Drugs" ain't that the truth. I find that by eating only whole, unprocessed foods I don't need to eat nearly as much as I used to. It is quite surorising how little food your body really needs. It is much less than you think. Whole foods digest much more slowly and your blood sugar stays more stable.
  11. The biggest problem in getting politicians behind this disease is the fact that there is no pill for it. The only cure is to eat a gluten free diet and live a healthy lifestyle. Since everyone on a gluten-free diet gets healthier they don't need to see a doctor as much or buy prescription medication. Pretty soon the drug companies and medical establishment...
  12. What are your portion sizes like? I have to keep mine quite small and spread throughout the day. The low carb diet seems to work better for men than women.
  13. I was seriously overweight on gluten and have lost about 85 pounds since going gluten-free. I actually found out that gluten was the problem when I tried the Atkins diet. The low carb diet works for me. What kind of foods are you eating and are you exercising? I only eat whole, unprocessed foods. Meat, veggies, low fructose fruits like berries and melons...
  14. I have to do this a lot. I am just upfront about it and ask the waitstaff about the food. I explain that I am allergic to wheat. Always say allergy and not intolerance because people seem to get it more than they do with intolerance. I have never had a client or business associate react in a negative way. Usually they are intrigued and want to know more about...
  15. Jen I think you hit the nail on the head. A lot of people I know would like to be as healthy as I have become but they are either too lazy or too stupid to do what it takes. Because of that they lash out at me and try to drag me down to their level. It makes them even more frustrated when they realize that I will not budge at all and bend to their way. These...
  16. I can't say I've ever had a problem with a salad bar. I eat at them quite frequently because I have to travel for work. I may have been glutened a time or two at one but I can't say for sure.
  17. If your father in law has diabetes and is stupid enough not to take care of it properly then there is no way you will ever get him to understand celiac disease. Whenever I have to deal with idiots like that I just stand my ground. If they get offended then that is there problem not mine.
  18. It seems to me that when a newbie signs up they should be directed to an FAQ page with all of the common questions. This should happen before they are given access to the message board. The same questions get posted over and over again. Not to pick on the newbies but it really clutters things up. The search function on this message board is rather clunky...
  19. I was so sick for so long that when I finally figuired out what was wrong the improvement was so dramatic that most people got it. Some don't completely understand it but they can see that was the problem. My wife didn't get it all so she became my ex-wife. Some people still can't believe that food intolerances and allergies exist but they are idiots and...

    ARCHIVED Joe's Crab Shack

I had a salmon meal at Joe's last week and didn't have any problems. A lot of their food has gluten but not all of it. The menu was pretty limited but I survived.

    ARCHIVED Chili's

I travel a lot for work and eat at Chilis fairly often. Never had a problem. I order the meat and veggie type meals and stay away from anything that obviously would have gluten in it.
  22. My life has been so blessed since I have gone gluten-free. Everything has changed for the better and I look forward to everyday. So what if I can't eat certain foods, I am healthier now than I have ever been.
  23. You bring up a good point. With our health care and insurance system looking for any reason to weed potential problem people out getting tested is not something to be taken ligthly. I have never been tested and never will because I am concerned that my insurance provider can use that against me. I was denied life insurance many years ago for another health...
  24. I've never had any problem with Tyson chicken. Did you add anything to the chicken?
  25. And all I had to do was stick cotton in my ear. Geez, now you tell me.
