  1. GlutenFreeMamax2, The reaction you describe after the Frogurt is exactly what happened to me after I ate a Creamie ice cream bar 1 week into the diet. Creamies are gluten-free but the milk, I guess, got me. I turned milk intolerant very quickly after going gluten-free. The intestinal pain I experienced was like nothing I could ever recall & the...
  2. Hello, I had been struggling to not go several times a day too. And yep some of it was the big D. Cutting out corn helped some, but I was still having trouble. Almond Milk (The Silk brand) was really messing me up. Not sure why - heard the carageenan can upset the stomach but never identified it. If I ate more than 1 slice of Udi's bread the same...
  3. I'm adding my "nope" to the rest. My husband switches back and forth from gluten to gluten free and is fine...no difference whatsoever. I can tell you this...when I was controlling symptoms by doing gluten free without knowing it (Atkins & another diet) and I would heal for a while, I could go back to eating gluten for weeks or a month at a time...
  4. Gluten doesn't just swell up my stomach; I swell all over. My face, hands, joints, you name it. It's awful. It goes away again. For me, the longest it's ever taken is 3-4 days. The fastest way I have ever found to debloat is to low carb it. Meat & greens only. No sugar, dairy, or grains. 3 days tops no matter how bad it's gotten. I've done...
  5. Hi there, You sound like me when I started searching for the answers to my health problems some years back. I, too, had Candida as one of the symptoms. One of the things I wanted to mention to you is that you are not going to feel stellar immediately, even if you are doing everything right, if Candida is part of your problem. I had to go through about...
  6. No you aren't paranoid. The only solution to your problem, that I can see, is to become totally and completely responsible for your own food & cooking. Feeling ill is just not worth the "convenience" of having your wife cook for you. You can batch prepare food 2x a week to last you. Most men enjoy BBQ'ing and if you do, cleaning your grill & buying...
  7. I see her ads pop up here on the site but the actual website is: www.julesglutenfree.com After you register it can take up to 2 weeks to get a welcome email offer. I saved 67% or something off the normal pricing and got free shipping. The flour worked like a dream with her recipes. She comes from a family of bakers and she likes to cook & tests each...
  8. Pretty much "Ditto" with everyone else. Celiac is first and foremost AUTOIMMUNE. The ways it can manifest itself are so varied and can go undetected for years. The problem with being young is that, as it is with so many things in life, you don't have any other comparison. The way life is (even your health) is all you have ever known. It's only by contrast...
  9. Hi Roda, I also hate it when something I cook doesn't come out quite right. I bought a cookie mix from Winco that was almost all rice flour and the cookies crumbled into a million pieces. So we ate cookie dust I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I bought Jules' Gluten-Free flour mix & a number of her E-cookbooks and everything I made...
  10. Ah if only more people were as nice, the world would be a better place, wouldn't it? He's a keeper. Couldn't be happier to share your story. Thanks. FooGirlsMom
  11. Hiya, I do think the pain will lessen some after you go completely Gluten Free & root out all the sources of contamination & food sensitivities. One of my big culprits I discovered was corn. I took it out of my diet for 2 weeks. My joint pain really lessened (esp in my right hand where it feels like arthritis) I did a test yesterday and ate...
  12. Sorry to hear about your paint If you ever have to paint again, you can find low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint that has a much lower noxious fume issue. I've heard it really helps and am going to do it myself next time we paint FooGirlsMom
  13. Hi there, Actually, yes, it can make you more sensitive to smells. From what I understand, it has to do with the auto-immune response. Some years back, in my 20s, when I had my first systemic breakdown from gluten, one of my symptoms was a systemic Candida problem. I didn't know gluten was the culprit then, but as I studied about Candida and how to...
  14. Along with the corn & soy for allergic reacion, do you eat the higher fiber grains like quinoa, buckwheat, etc? Rice can be constipating (that's why I'm eating it I have the opposite problem). Winter is difficult sometimes but along with the fiber, drinking your 64+ ounces of water a day should help. Sure hope you feel better soon! FooGirlsMom
  15. I use agave nectar quite frequently. I use the Xagave brand & it seems to be fine.
  16. Hi, Just wanted to lend some support here. You got great responses. As others said, you may find you have to be diligent and a bit boring with your diet for the first several months and you might find you have secondary allergies (I found dairy, corn & soy to be problems and now I feel MUUUCH better). But it will get better. From my own experience...
  17. Just wanted to lend another vote of support & sympathy. Even though I've only been gluten-free since October, I have been on a couple of long-term diets the past 15 years that were gluten-free, Sugar free, & dairy free and yeah you don't feel like you can eat anything. The only way I found I could cope with the restrictions was to make sure I always...
  18. The sad part is that the small little slice of bread has about the same calories as a fluffy wheat-containing bread. FooGirlsMom
  19. Thanks for the article. That was easy to understand & made a lot of sense FooGirlsMom
  20. I had a systemic Candida problem about 15 years ago. One of the best ways to tell (for women) is if you have trouble with recurrent yeast & bladder infections. If you do have a Candida problem, it's important to go on gluten free, dairy free, & SUGAR free diet. That might even include fruits except limes and lemons if your problem was as extreme...
  21. Family situations are the most difficult esp. if you have well-meaning people trying to "love you" and accomodate your needs. The easiest thing to do is what the others said - bring your own food. When you tell her that you became sick after eating her lovely and appreciated attempt at gluten-free cooking, let her off the hook and say how much you TRULY...
  22. Hey what a terrifically good idea!!! I don't know if it's the corn itself, but it sure will be worth a try to eat fresh grown corn in a husk. You're jogging a memory that I was reacting better to fresh grown corn bought from a local grower this summer (bought tons of it) than the frozen or husked versions...mmm.. I think the worst part of gluten-free...
  23. Yep - intermittent rib cage pain was one of my last symptoms prior to going gluten-free in October. For the first time in 15 years I was eating gluten continually for 2 years and I got very sick. New symptoms were appearing monthly. The last 2 as I recall were the ribcage pain and tingling in my feet. I hope you feel better soon. FooGirlsMom
  24. Well... The problem with Gluten Intolerance is that if you truly have it, your body could be making antibodies against the gluten and swirling around in your system. It can take some time for you to notice the results of an auto-immune attack. You may not notice it for months or years. At least until you develop a seemingly unrelated illness like arthritis...
  25. You're not crazy. I went Gluten-Free about mid-October. Last week I had a melt-down. Sometimes this is an emotional roller-coaster ride. If you knew me, I am not really an emotional person who cries about difficulties or adversity - you just keep at it, right? Well... I think the emotions of it all just finally got to me. I felt so awesome the...
