  1. Ok so they blotted out the name of the store I was trying to help you out with. It's a big book store online that starts with an A and ends with N. There is a forest by the name. I understand banning companies that Spam, but some companies make this difficult way of eating easier with their pricing & fast delivery. Good luck FooGirlsMom
  2. I could be wrong, but if rice is like any other grain, you should just be able to grind it. The fineness of the flour will be determined by how well it's ground (I had a hand-grinder for our wheat that I had to grind coarse, then set the stones closer & grind fine). The amt of moisture in the grain could affect how well it grinds. You want it really...

    ARCHIVED Worth Getting Diagnosed?

One more 2c worth The main school of thought is -- if you don't think you can stay gluten-free then it might be worth getting tested -- well...how about you stay gluten free and if you find you can't -- then do the gluten challenge -- as you'll already be eating gluten anyway lol I wish wish wish I'd discovered what my issue was in my early...
  4. I don't know if we're all "allergic" to soy or just that our bodies cannot tolerate it early into the diet. Some are allergic (ie. rashes etc) but I've never been allergic in the past. As I went Gluten Free for the first time in almost 4 years (longest stint not being gluten free in 15 years) I discovered an intolerance to soy. I got the big D and was...
  5. Hi - I feel for you. I had a mild migraine the first week I was on gluten-free. I found that Ex Strength Tylenol or Excedrin Migraine knocked it out (well..at least enough to survive) The headache should go away soon. The one thing I would recommend that you do NOT take is Ibuprofen (Advil). It has a GI effect on the body and can upset your stomach...
  6. I have heard that we crave the foods we are allergic to. I wonder how true that is. I am giving up all kinds of things I couldn't live without. I was addicted to cheese too. I gave it up with the other dairy. Corn is like my crack. My favorite soup was a potato corn leek soup...about 5 days ago I finally made the connection that my joint swelling...
  7. The color of the BM is usually directly affected by the foods they eat. Been eating a lot of green veggies? That'll do it. FooGirlsMom
  8. I thought of the patty too. Sometimes I have trouble tolerating foods with a high grease content. Fireside gourmet patties are like 30% fat right? What flavor was it? Was it the pure beef patty or did it have onion or some other flavor? I've had Bush's beans and they seem to be ok. Are you having trouble with corn in general? I cut corn out of...
  9. Very interesting thread. I had terrible swelling prior to going gluten-free. Like the original poster, I still have pain (arthritis? I'm only 42) in my right hand. It's getting a little better, esp. since cutting out soy & corn, but it's still a little painful when I open and close it. (I'm right handed by the way). My knuckles even pop in the...
  10. Link Z: You haven't mentioned what your other symptoms are and why you believe you've hit a wall, so to speak. I came at this realization about the gluten intolerance sort of roundabout. I was treating symptoms through trial & error & found certain things that worked (and just happened to be gluten-free). Sometimes because of the auto-immune...
  11. Just a quick note to add my 2c worth to what the others have already said. The symptoms you are experiencing I have had also...sharp pain in the side, horrific (I mean HORRIFIC) trapped gas that caused belching like crazy that occasionally made me throw up. (Hate that but at least I felt better afterwards). I found the sharp chest pains to be associated...
  12. Hi, I find that if I'm not eating a proper amount of protein and fibrous foods like fruits and veggies I get hungry faster. If you are slightly insulin resistant a lower carb diet might help. I have always been successful on diets when I focus on homemade soups that are vegetable based, low in fat, etc. I also find that buying raw sunflower seeds...
  13. Hi Karen, I do know how you feel. I lost 40 lbs in 3 months on a gluten-free diet and yes it becomes the hot topic of conversation. If you're anything like me, you don't define yourself by your weight (or other people either for that matter). It's like "you" disappear as everyone begins telling you how wonderful you look. Yes, we do look better when...
  14. Hi, Hoping you guys can help me out here! So this morning I discovered Rice Dream is processed with barley, leaving it at 20ppm! I need another milk alternative and for some reason the Silk Almond milk gives me the big D. It might be that Silk is a major mfr of soy products and I've discovered soy gives me D too. So help! I live in the western...
  15. Ok - got the answer - took a bit of digging though...this is dierectly from their site: Is RICE DREAM Beverage a gluten free product? Yes. Although RICE DREAM Beverage is processed using a barley enzyme, the barley enzyme is discarded after use. The final beverage might contain a minute residual amount (less than .002%) of barley protein. That...
  16. I'm discovering I have the same issue. I noticed I was reacting to Corn & Honey Nut Chex cereals, checked the label - corn. So I switched to only Rice & Cinnamon Chex (both are rice only) and I'm fine. After I saw the huge difference, I dropped corn from my diet altogether. I feel soooo much better. It's amazing that after you go gluten free...
  17. Hi, You know what's funny? I have the exact opposite problem. I was trying to eat Corn & Honey Nut Chex and I would have bathroom issues. I switched over to Rice & Cinnamon Chex (both are made with only rice, no corn) and I'm fine. The past week I have been staying off the corn & corn products..bathroom issues down by 75%...hmmm Not sure...
  18. Hello, As someone who has dieted most of my adult life due to this WONDERFUL problem we all have, I can answer your question now that I've seen your calorie intake in a follow-up post. You are probably in dietary ketosis (meaning you are burning your own fat) by the time you go to bed. This can happen when you are dieting and burning your fat stores...
  19. Hi, Are we really SURE that Rice Dream (now Organic) uses barley in the processing. I checked their website before buying it this week & it has information on their site for those with allergies - corn, gluten, etc and it says all their Rice Dream products are gluten-free.... If they use barley in the processing, how can they get away with making...
  20. I'm leaning toward the nitrate/nitrite theory. I can't eat them either. Pounding headache & overally sick feeling and sometimes heart palpitations. Since going gluten-free I notice I'm hyper sensitive to chemicals and other things I wasn't so sensitive to before. Maybe because of detoxing & the body starting to heal. Stay away from Quaker!...
  21. Hi there, I just wanted to chime in and say "your singing the same tune I was a week ago". I felt like a million bucks the first week after going gluten-free. I had a ton of energy & felt nomral for the first time in a long long time. (Years) Then all of a sudden it seemed like my symptoms returned at about 1/2. Plus I had the big D (which I rarely...
  22. Hi, Day 2 - yeah - it can be fun to make all the transitions. I wanted to put a quick note 2nd-ing the idea of the supplements esp. sublingual B. I started a sublingual (dropper of liquid under the tongue) of B-complex immediately (mine is gluten free & from Walmart - something like Spring Valley brand & good flavor). I take it 2-3 times...
  23. Hi, I'm new to the idea of cross-contamination too and I'm sure I will have to make adjustments as I go at some point. For now, to keep it simple, when I opened a new peanut butter jar, I asked my family to use a spoon to scoop out what they want to use, then put it on their bread. Same with jelly and any other food you take out of a container &...
  24. Hi While I've only been on this gluten-free change for a month, my health problems have been dragging out years. I have just "happened" upon dietary changes that made me feel better (like low carbing and various gluten-free diets that I didn't realize were gluten-free) and lived that way a lot over the last 15 years. So I've had to address eating...
  25. Hi, I'm 42 and have been gluten-free for about a month now. The symptoms you described are exactly what I had. As my symptoms worsened I started to have heart palpitations also. (They are gone, by the way I had cloudy urine right after starting the diet too and when I googled it a bunch of times it said something about milk causing it (I was still...
