  1. Rachel-24 does not have the Celiac gene but had high antibodies and malabsorption. I don't know the result of her endoscopy but she has DQ1 and from her test results sounds Celiac. Then again there is info coming out that DQ1 might soon be considered a Celiac gene. There is also info that some 1% of Celiacs don't have either of the two accepted genes...
  2. Oops - that's the one I mean, the brown rice bowl, not teryaki. And yes, the mac and cheese says in big letters across the top it's gluten free... I lived on those last year when I got my kitchen remodelled... Stephanie
  3. THat is so weird. The only two meals by Amy's I could eat are the mac and cheese and the teryaki bowl (I think that one is it - has tamari in it). But the teryaki bowl made me ill, later found out I can't have fermented tamari (has aspergillus mold in it) so I can't have that either. The only one I now can have is the mac and cheese. I'm sorry - you have...
  4. You can be gluten intolerant and not have Celiac but have other autoimmune diseases occur as well - if gluten is damaging to your system, then you need to not consume it. Celiac is bad but it's not the only bad thing out there. Even gluten intolerance of the generic sort is bad enough. If you have ataxia and there is a chance it is related to gluten, you...
  5. Welcome Cara - nice to see you post over here. I can't believe I haven't seen Al pop in yet... Anyway, always good to help more people make connections, especially about non-Celiac gluten intolerance. Take care! Stephanie
  6. I'm A+ - I joke it's the only A+ I've ever gotten (ok, 7th grade drafting class...) I went on a kick with the blood type diet which helped me further learn of my gluten problem by educating me on the problems with wheat. I did identify other things as well that seem to be mild problem foods for me, such as garbanzo beans and some kinds of fish. I think...

    ARCHIVED Mongolian Bbq

Before gluten free I tried to eat at a Mongolian BBQ - I had them clean it off because I can't have tomatoes/peppers, etc, and I still got sick. When they cleaned it they basically just poured a bunch of water on it and scraped. It was like a giant cast iron skillet. With all the noodles and soy sauces, etc, I just wouldn't even chance it... I miss...
  8. Hi Vydor - I used to very much have bipolar-like symptoms, pre taking any meds. I guess right now I"m trying to determine if it's because of food as they all improved for a while when I eliminated certain foods, including gluten - I have a "honeymoon" period for about 2-3 months, then they start coming back out. Not as severe but I still have bouts....
  9. You sound like me, Ursula! Wow, I'm sorry people have these reactions but am glad to know I'm not alone. Take care Stephanie
  10. I'd be wondering, too. I'm in a miserable mood today - went to my brother's engagement party last night which should have made me so happy but I just got extremely depressed. I am wondering if I got glutened - I keep getting teary. Meds, food and mood. They make a big mess of things... Stephanie
  11. I was given this for a migrane - first with the injected med (can't remember what it was, wasn't demerol) and then in pills to take with vicodin. I told them that I don't get nausea with migraines but they said it can calm you down and make things work better, especially the meds. I see it's an antihistamine - I wonder if it's calming effect is helping, as...

    ARCHIVED Anger

I have gotten a lot better about figuring out it's because of gluten, like initially I might not know, but then some lightbulb goes off, but by then it's like I've got a firehose all to myself and it just shoots water (or molten lava or fire) any direction it wants, I just happen to be along for the ride. I know at that point, the best thing for me to do...
  13. I TOTALLY get them confused when I'm writing about them (not when I see them, though). So I understand. I love the frozen Amy's mac and cheese - it's the only TV dinner I can eat... Stephanie
  14. Here's a picture of the Amy's mac and cheese (frozen) that is gluten free, rice pasta: http://www.amyskitchen.com/products/images/400/00045.webp Stephanie
  15. Hi Viola - the one with the bunny is Annie's, not Amy's. Annie's does have one gluten free mac and cheese so far - they just released it a few months back. It clearly says on the front that it is gluten free - it's a rice pasta, though not quite as nice as Tinkyada. You have to prepare it just like Kraft Mac and Cheese. Here's the webpage: Open Original...
  16. I'm wondering if this is in my future. I have been revisiting the idea that I might be bipolar and in evaluating my life, I have designed my habits, etc, so that I cause the least impact on myself and least stress. I don't tend to have mood swings, what makes my doc suspect this again is the fact that so many meds cause me to feel manic. For example, I...
  17. I got the cinnamon/sugar ones and the maple ones. Very dense, like a super-filling cake donut. Definitely requires a glass of milk or something. But wonderful. I wish I could eat a whole one at a time but messes with my blood sugar too much so I froze what I got and occasionally have half of one as a treat. Mmmmmmmm............. Stephanie
  18. Boy, that burns me up. That's like if you were to call to ask if they had a ramp to their house because your daughter is in a wheelchair and they said don't let her be in the wheelchair because the other kids would be jealous they didn't have one, too! That was so incredibly rude... Wow! I don't know what I'd do if I was a parent in general, but in addition...
  19. Hi VydorScope - According to my doctor and a psychologist, the fact that many meds I take cause me to have manic episodes, especially antidepressants, indicates to them that I probably should still be considered bipolar. I was diagnosed as such in the past, though I don't have the same level of issues I did then. I don't know if I truly am bipolar, but...
  20. Oh, I should have had a line for anyone having a blood relative... that would have been interesting to know. Stephanie
  21. What happens is that if you are constipated, your waste doesn't leave your body and it further ferments or decays (or becomes rancid, supposedly) in your gut, which is a permeable membrane, so this stuff is reabsorbed in your system and can make you feel terrible. Having migraines, illness, feeling like you have the flu, difficulty concentrating, etc, are...
  22. Thanks, Gina. Interesting info there. I have DQ9 which is only one amino acid different from DQ8 (while DQ7 is 3 or 4 just for reference) which I think is funny because my family is 3/4th Dutch and the rest Scot/Welsh. DQ9 is a more Mediterranean gene. I don't know who I got it from, though I suspect my mom (who is all Dutch). And coincidentally, her side...
  23. I'm just curious. I know I've mentioned here before that I was dx'd bipolar 2 about 10 years ago and that since I found out about food intolerances I seem to no longer fit this criteria. But I went to my GP today to discuss my scopes results and other issues (mainly many tests and labs that all indicate I am fine but the reality of ongoing pain and digestive...
  24. I am so with Tiffany on this one - I don't usually care for meds but the triptans I mentioned are god sends. And not narcotic, don't feel all messed up at all... wow... I can't believe for 30 years I suffered... Stephanie
  25. I keep reading about IBS being a junk diagnosis but am wondering what else it could be covering. I have IBS/C and am not Celiac but have gluten intolerance. This week is my one year anniversary of being gluten free. I am also free of many other foods that also give me stomach problems but I am still getting symptoms. My gastro said typical IBS. Said I...
