  1. On the balsalmic vinegar - that would always be gluten free as it's made of grapes, not grain. Grain alcohol is controversial, I think it must depend on the person. Science says it's ok, but some people report that it isn't. All vinegars are ok unless they are made with gluten grains or flavored, and then it depends on the vinegar. OK are balsamic...
  2. Hi all - Wanted to let you know that the generic Librax I got (as discussed in the post above) is indeed gluten free. But your doc has to specify the generic. The generic is a green capsule. I have had no gluten problems with it, nor any nightshade (despite one of the two drugs in it is derrived from nightshade, something I found out after getting it...
  3. Recently, we decided to try this new classy restaurant in town - my brother just got a new job and my parents were treating. They gave me the number to make the reservation so I could talk to the chef ahead of time (my first time). So I did and his wife is gluten intolerant, also! I said great, you know where I"m coming from. But I do have a couple of other...

    ARCHIVED Just A Quick Question?

I have been having bouts of hunger again, a burning kind, lately. I have noticed it happens more when I have fruit or grains (like rice). I have been trying to stick with more protein snacks, like nuts and cheese, but sometimes it's hard to avoid. Frustrating, isn't it? I'm also hypoglycemic and most of the time I'm in good control but there are those moments...
  5. I'm not a scientist but I have read a lot on this and have found some plausible theories in aspartame being potentially harmful. I can say for myself I only got onboard with this when I started having a lot of fatigue, migraine, and of all things, a burning tongue. I was chewing sugar-free gum, more and more a day (a pack a day when the tongue symptom started...
  6. I tried Mrs. Leeper's tuna and noodles which was tasty (not a salad) but the leftovers were just a big mush of corn flour and tuna. After that experience I don't think I'd try using for a salad. I have thought about the quinoa pasta but I think that has corn in it too, not good for holding the shape. Every experience with Tinkyada has been very good, very...
  7. FYI - on citric acid: From Open Original Shared Link What frustrates me is that I can't find a single brand of aloe vera juice without citric acid in it and since I am either sensitive to or allergic to a. niger, I end up getting worse from drinking the aloe juice, despite the fact I'm taking it to help calm my stomach/gut. It would be great if...
  8. It follows that if you are allergic to mold you couldn't take Beano. They claim on their FAQ this is not true: You'd think with the level of CYA (cover your ass) most companies go by, they wouldn't recommend anyone who is allergic to mold take their product. Open Original Shared Link Stephanie
  9. Definitely - I have problems with anything with aspergillus in it. Citric acid for the most part is made with it and it's in a lot of foods. Aspergillus is a family of molds and many of them are used in food/meds. Here's a list I have been compiling (all that I have so far): Hope this helps. Stephanie
  10. Tiffany - what's your jerky recip? I have been looking for a good oven one. Thanks! Stephanie PS when I buy jerkey - this is the stuff I get: Open Original Shared Link I buy the mild or hot jerky. Very simple and super tasty.
  11. I learned about the benefits of progesterone cream after my accupunctrist recommended it and loaned me a book by Dr. John Lee, called "What Your Doctor Won't Tell You About Perimenopause". Anyway, a good resource is his site Open Original Shared Link If you go to the bottom of the page you will see a quiz you can take to find out if you are estrogen dominant...
  12. That's crazy. I hope that was a miscommunication. If you had high cholesterol, then by all means, increase your fiber. How on earth is that supposed to help the development of antibodies to gluten??? Stephanie
  13. I am non-Celiac gluten intolerant and have had high cholesterol. When I have taken supplements that benefit my liver (licorice, turmeric, milk thistle, artichoke, bitters) I have improved my cholesterol levels. I was 240 total and my doc wanted me to start on a statin but I didn't like how it made me feel so I started taking supplements for my liver. I was...
  14. Oh yeah, here's the cheapest place I found for it online - I put "Brevail" in Froogle.com and found this. If you look to the right on the page and save the coupon code, they give you $1 off your order. Open Original Shared Link I have absolutely no financial interest in this product and hadn't heard of it until Michelle told me about it. I felt different...
  15. OK, I have to back up Michelle here on Brevail. I have had hormone problems forever it seems and I was on the pill for 13 years. I went off and had a lot of problems so I have gone on and off using progesterone cream which does help some but not with all the symptoms I seem to have (tender breasts, wicked mood swings, incredible insomnia the week before my...
  16. Thanks! I studied chem, originally wanted to be a physicist, though. But brain fog in college ended my science aspirations. Now I'm an armchair scientist. I am always trying to learn about sweeteners because I don't do well on most sugars and don't do well at all on any artificial ones. I think sugar alcohols are neat but most cause more side effects than...
  17. For the adventuresome folks who don't need exact recipes - I learned once how to make almond milk. I think the recipe was 1 cup raw almonds, 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut (shredded), 2 cups boiling water and 1 tsp vanilla (or to taste). Put the almonds, coconut and some of the water in a blender or food processor and mix, carefully (because that hot water will...
  18. B - Glad you're feeling better. Yeah, that klonopin can be nasty - when I was on it (about 6 months) my medical insurance kept changing around (off my parents, onto the county insurance at the time) and they took me off klonopin - COLD TURKEY! Four days of pure hell, then the next month was uncomfortable but not so bad. Have you seen Trainspotting? I...
  19. I'm trying to go off of all grains but am happy to consider tapioca bread, etc for some foods. I'm thinking of ordering some of the raved about Chebe bread for that reason. Nice to have a grain free option. Stephanie
  20. Scotch tape. The answer to everything. I keep it right next to my gluten free toaster. Stephanie

    ARCHIVED Miserable

Hey, just a comment on the Xanax - my dr. prescribed the one a day variety for me and I take them when I need them (maybe once or twice a month) - they are extended release so they last longer. But they really help out when I need them. But if what you're taking is helping, I'd stick with that. I can't take any SSRI antidepressants - I get very manic...
  22. That sounds delicious! I'm going to have to try that - we have a ton of peaches in my neck of the woods around July/August. (No, not in Georgia!) I wonder if just a regular strawberry jam recipe would work? This sounds very similar to the recipes for jam not made in the bread machine - might be worth trying. I have some in my basic cookbooks at home...
  23. Wow, didn't know they made a low sugar kind. I hauled mine out - very simple ingredients of coconut, honey and egg whites. Maltitol causes the bacteria in your gut to grow (feeds it) which can cause bloating and diahrrea. It is a sugar alcohol or polyol. Some people can tolerate it, others can't. It's a "your mileage may vary" kind of thing. I don't like...
  24. Techincally, EnteroLab doesn't give anyone the "Celiac" result as that usually requires a biopsy to prove and they don't do that. I got "negative" results but had been gluten free for 5 months, react to the diet, and was told I should stick with it. I don't have either of the two Celiac genes, either. But I do have two that are related to gluten sensitivity...
  25. Stef - I don't think gelatin will work. I have never heard of making jam with gelatin. What bread maker do you have? Mine makes jam also but I lost the recipe. Could you post the recipe for yours? Thanks! Stephanie
