ARCHIVED Top Three Worst Gf Products
skbird replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have to say I was not INNITIALLY impressed by EnerG bread but went to a restaurant last week and they had it and made me a turkey/pesto/mozerella cheese panini sandwich on it and it was GOOD!!! With the white rice bread. I even went out and bought a loaf after that and made my own, still good! Good for grilled cheese, too. My favorite gluten-free bread... -
Well, I got the ANA titer and pattern back - 1:160 (one notch lower) and nucleolar again. I know this doesn't necessarily mean much. My hands and feet have calmed down though. But my chest pain is getting more and more constant - used to be bursts of pain out of the blue - once or twice a week. Now it's daily and not as intense, but things like lying on my...

ARCHIVED Problem With Digestive Enzymes
skbird replied to steve-o's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh, here are a couple of more items - Beano and Lactaid are both made from aspergillus. So if you have more problems with those than without, likely it's the aspergillus problem... Stephanie -
I think I read somewhere that someone on the same insurance plan I'm on (Blue Shield of CA) said they're not covered for a nutritionist unless they are dx as diabetic! What?!? Like gluten intolerance/Celiac isn't just as important, diet-wise? Then of course getting a nutritionist in the know... that's another thing. I plan on putting this forum, plus...

ARCHIVED Problem With Digestive Enzymes
skbird replied to steve-o's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wanted to make an alternate suggestion. I have no luck with enzymes, either. I have recently learned, however, that I am sensitive and probably allergic to a mold called aspergillus. Many enzymes are made from this mold. Also, many foods are as well. Your symptoms are mine exactly when I have any amount of this mold. Some foods to suspect are: Open... -
I had Raynaud's for four years, ending about 5 years ago. My fingers never turned blue but they did sometimes turn white (and often just one or two, or parts of a couple, never all of them, and usually just my left hand for some reason) and when they turned red they hurt from a mild ache to really bad pain (like a severe migraine). At the worst it would hurt...

Hi! I went to my GP last month and he'd told me that I was the most successful person in the past 5 years he's recommended a gluten free diet to, which sort of surprised me. But I've been thinking about it a lot and think it might be because these newly diagnosed people he sees don't get support after diagnosis. So, after considering for a while, I sent him...

DEFINITELY AVOID TUMS. I am still recovering from being glutened by them last Tuesday (7 days ago.) How lame is it the med you take for you stomach actually makes it worse! I'll bet the fryer was to blame. I don't eat fries so I didn't even think of that. I hope you're feeling better. Stephanie

Thanks Stacie. I've gone and looked at your web site before. I like the spoon theory, can identify with it. I'm reading a book right now called "All in my Head" by Paula Kamen and she has the marble theory. Anyway, my results are trickling in, my ANA screen is positive again, don't know the titre or pattern yet (but bet it's in my mailbox when I get home...

I am always trying to find a similar thing myself. I get the burning stomach, but it lasts longer than just a day and night. And it will go when I eat really carefully but if I get overconfident and have something like chocolate then my stomach goes off again. Not that there's anything gluten about the chocolate, just the actual chocolate itself, which is...

ARCHIVED Question For The Non-celiac Spouses...
skbird replied to frenchiemama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah, Stephanie Solidarity! And way to go, Frenchiemama - if he likes the pasta, you're halfway there. I agree, it does seem weird and lonely to eat only your own food, so it's nice to share. Only time it's not nice to share is when you open your package from some online store and see the size the box of cookies/etc *really* is! Then the hoarding... -
Hey Michelle - good to know about the Tofutti stuff. I was checking it out yesterday in the store but saw the maltodextrin (I think that was what I saw) and since I am still feeling bad from having Tums (still mad about that!!!) I decided not to risk. Also, have had some non-dairy cream cheese before that was not all that great. I'll give it a shot! ...

Pleurisy is when the pleura which is in your chest, either the lining of your lungs or heart (I can't remember) become inflammed and causes pain depending on position you are in, how you are moving, etc. About a week before my appointment I was making dinner with a friend when I had a flash of pain and it made me suck in my breath and she asked me to describe...

Oh yeah, I thought I'd post what I just got tested for: CMP, ESR, CRP, Anti CCP antibodies, HBsAg, Anti HCV, Urine analysis ANA, dsDNA, Sm, RNP, SSA/B, Scl-70 Anticardiolipin antibodies PTT, DRVVT C3, C4, CH50 Ack! Don't know what half of that is... Anyway, we'll see. I realize that a high ana on it's own isn't enough to determine anything. I really...

ARCHIVED How Long Until Gluten Leaves The System?
skbird replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get that. I don't know what my real self is, either. I just got some lab tests back yesterday, comprehensive metabolic panel, and I am low on two things now - when I read up on them they both say not a really big deal but probably indicate malnutrition. Hmmm. BTW, I was low on alkaline phosphotase (have been below normal on each of the four tests in the... -
OK, I wanted to follow up here - I went to the rheumatologist last Friday and don't know much more, other than he thinks I have arthritis in my hands/feet, and pleurisy is causing my chest pain. He sent me for tests and I go back Aug 5 to find out what they all mean. In the meantime, here is a funny story of my frustrating day that day... I'll start with...

These are great stories - I really like Ian's... very cool! That must have been a great moment! OK, so I'm guilty. Last weekend I met up with an email friend who lives locally. We were talking about food problems, and she said, "I have one allergy - I'm allergic to artichokes!" My eyes got huge and before I could even realize what I was saying, I'd said...

ARCHIVED Question For The Non-celiac Spouses...
skbird replied to frenchiemama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Frenchiemama, I am laughing about things tasting like ass. My husband and I are big cheese fans and let me tell you, there are cheeses that at least smell that way.. hahahahah! I guess I'm fortunate that my husband eats gluten free meals with me but doesn't hog my goodies (ie cookies) so there is a happy medium there. But he has also made the claim that... -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Enzyme Renders Gluten Harmless
skbird replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Uh, that's helpful. I'm not sure I see a major upswelling of reaction by "advanced" members here. I, for one, would be interested, but I'm not going to beg. Stephanie -
Jen - yeah, that sounds about right! Stephanie

ARCHIVED Sensitivity Vs. Cd
skbird replied to Martyg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, sensitivity can be more than just being uncomfortable when you eat gluten. You can have other damage occurring, maybe not just in your gut. If you have antibodies, you have an autoimmune reaction going on. Since you already have Hashimoto's Thyroid diagnosis, you know something about autoimmune disorders. Some people find the longer they are gluten... -
ARCHIVED Symptomatic... Stomach Migranes?
skbird replied to ruddabega's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've heard of stomach migraines. I was looking into that last fall before going gluten free for myself. Evidently, something like 50% (I don't recall the actual figure) of your body's serotonin is manufactured in your gut, as opposed to your brain. Since serotonin dictates how your blood vessels in your brain work, fluctuating levels can cause migraines.... -
Another option is if you have a cafeteria plan at work. You can set aside pre-tax dollars for medical costs, supplements, eyeglasses, special foods, etc. I am considering upping mine next year so I can get reimbursed for some of my food costs. You still have to save reciepts but it's not something you have to do on your taxes and worry about getting audited...

I found this doing a search: Open Original Shared Link So it's ground pods. That might explain the chocolaty flavor. I may have to find some of this stuff... Stephanie

ARCHIVED Question For The Non-celiac Spouses...
skbird replied to frenchiemama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey Frenchiemama - that is weird. I wonder if he is afraid that if he goes gluten free, he won't be able to eat the old foods he loves anymore? Like after seeing you do that? I mean, I could understand that, sort of. Weird though. I know that would definitely bother me. I love making food and sharing it. Hope someone else knows... Stephanie
