ARCHIVED Need Help Making Bread!
casnco replied to 2tired's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't think I would use a bread maker that has previously been used for baking regular gluten containing bread. There is a risk of CC. I don't own one, but can you really clean it sufficiently to eliminate the risk of CC. I would be interested to hear others ideas concerning this. I am really a freak about CC. I hate to get glutened without knowing... -
ARCHIVED Peanut Butter Cookies
casnco replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I will have to try the M&M's in the PB cookies. Great idea! I am also going to try the sugar cookies. Man do I have a lot of flours, looks like I need to purchase some starches now. That is if I want to bake for Christmas. Thanks again. -

casnco replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
YUMMY!!!! I made these and they were great!!!! I can't believe how easy they were to make. I thought they would come out like crisp disks of peanut butter but they were a wonderful consistancy. I highly recommend these. If anyone has a recipie for christmas cookies I sure would appriciate if you could post them. Thanks. Casnco -
ARCHIVED Gluten -- I Cheated And It Was So Good
casnco replied to grantschoep's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is so good to hear so many of you have such strong resolve. I have been gluten free for 2.5 yrs. AND I WANT TO EAT NORMAL!!! Not all of the time...but a pizza shop pizza and a beer keep appearing in my dreams! I have been thinking about trying it out to see what happens. Although I have been thinking about it for over a year. I am somewhat of a chicken... -

ARCHIVED Columbus Conference, Ohio, Nov 4,2006
casnco replied to mamaw's topic in Publications & Publicity
KrisT: If you haven't gone to the Raisin Rack I have to recommend HIGHLY you drive there as fast as you can! They have a much better selection than any of the chain organic/health food stores. The person who does their ordering is a retired physician. She also is Celiac. There is an entire isle of only gluten-free foods. A wonderful freezer section... -
ARCHIVED Columbus Conference, Ohio, Nov 4,2006
casnco replied to mamaw's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wont it be nice to go to a conference where you do not have to make special arrangements for the lunch/snack portion of the meeting! I might just go for that luxury again. -

Is this a conference put on by Childrens Hospital? How can I find out the progam agenda? I am an adult onset/diagnosis and not interested in learning about childhood issues. -
ARCHIVED More Triumph Dining Cards
casnco replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
jillian: Are you sure they have Italian and Greek? I just checked and I did not see that option. Any chance you would have a phone number for the people that make the cards? I am traveling next month to Greece and Italy. It would be fantastic to be able to hand the card to a waiter and have them understand. Any help you can offer would be great!!!! Debbie -
Hi Friends: Can anyone make a recommendation for travel. I will be taking a cruise in October. Starting in Venice, Italy and stopping in Athens, Mekenose and Croatia. (Not bragging really, just very, very lucky!) I have thought several times about just giving up on trying to stay gluten free. I know this isn't the best choice, but it is an option. ...

ARCHIVED Celiac Develpoed As A Side-effect?
casnco replied to MissSio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went on the Akins diet 2 years ago. It was great. I lost a significant amount of weight. (I am the unusual overweight celiac) It was great. But when I reintroduced heavy carbs back into my diet, boom...the celiac symptoms hit. I didn't know what was happening and it took about 6 months of doctoring and a mysterious invitation to a social workers continuing... -

Do triple sec or Grand Marnier contain gluten? -
I am rather rough so that people will just leave me alone. I tell them their food is poison for me. The people who know me laugh and the people who dont know me leave me alone. Mission accomplished. It does anger me when my supervisors who know me offer a contest with a gluten prize at the end. I am not motivated. How about a gift certificate at least...

Shirley: Did you slap him in the face. How inappropriate! I would tell everyone I knew what an insensitive goof he was. I might even stand outside his office with a sign warning potential patients. How disgusting!

GREAT suggestion. -
Sorry to hear so many people have had a bad experience at Bob's. The Bob's in our town is obviously run by more intellegent people. I have never had a problem there. I even called the company and they sent me a list of ingredients for a large number of their menue items they thought would be appropriate for me to eat at any Bob's resturant I would vist...

ARCHIVED Funky Vision
casnco replied to NOBREAD4ME's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
nobread4me, I exeperience what the doctor called a visual migrane. That was the first sign I went to the doctor for before being diag. w/celiac. Now I know when I have been glutened because my visiion gets weird. My perscription changed also. My doctor is having a hard time understanding the changes. He is not familiar with Celiac and how it relates... -
ARCHIVED Mcd Fries 2: The Phone Calls :)
casnco replied to ryebaby0's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I think the most important thing here for all of us to remember isn't if we can eat fries at McD's or not. The most important thing is make sure the information they give us is correct. I can live without fries. On the road I can stop at the convenience mart for chips. Or take fruit on trips. When I travel I can make other arrangements. I just want... -

Great suggestion -
OMG!!! Donna: Thanks for posting these studies. My initial symptoms of celiac disease were the blurry vision. My doc told me the blurry vision was the precurser to a Migrane. The symptoms passed. I refused the Migrane meds and continued to seek help. Blah, Blah, Blah...Long story short, we ignored the blurry vision, I went gluten-free. Blurry vision...

ARCHIVED Mcd Fries 2: The Phone Calls :)
casnco replied to ryebaby0's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The basic question for me is ...Have I had a reaction or haven't I? When I am "glutened" I break out with DH and have the wonderful bowl dissorders. So far, McD's fries have been fine. -
Has anyone experienced any problems with their eye sight when they get glutened? Lately I have been experiencing about 20 min. of tunnel vision after an accidental glutening event. It is kind of scary.

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Completely Sick Of Having To Pack A Lunch Everyday?
casnco replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I make sure I am out of the area during lunch. For quite a few I have been off work the day of the pot luck. Lucky me. But if I am there I work through lunch, I tell them I will be there shortly. I have done pot luck style with my family. And before I can go through the food line to eat the one item I brought, it seems someone forgets and contaminates...
