  1. Addy is right. This is an up and down healing path, but you will find your rhythm and it will become the "new normal" For example, I never say gluten-free anymore. It's just food. if it makes you feel better, many of us were told the "it's menopause" or "it's all in your head" or "there's nothing wrong with you" malarkey too. I had inexplicable anxiety...
  2. Really? because I am not really "sensing this joy" at all. Chill, I could not be any happier for you, babe! I know how long your journey with food intolerances --besides the celiac--has been. So, yes...I am thrilled for you! Go, chilly, Go chilly, Go chilly! (wish I had a pom-pom girl emoticon)
  3. My Dad had frequent blood transfusions for severe anemia and tanked hematocrits for 8 YEARS at Lahey Clinic outside of Boston. I am talking sometimes 2X a month. No problems at all. Please do not let the need for a transfusion deter you because a few people had a "bad reaction"...this is a very non-specific description we hear on here all the time. ...

  5. Dealing with celiac does not "require" any paranoia, hon. (in fact, there is no need for paranoia at all) It requires caution and common sense. Arm yourself with a working knowledge of the disease, read some solid information about cross contamination and how to avoid it----and live your life. This is one of those situations where the only thing...
  6. The gluten-free cafe has those by the register for sale. You like those, K? any good?
  7. Agree totally on the "getting me back", thing!
  8. speaking of peppers... Bison stuffed peppers (this primal eating is pretty good actually!) and as an added bonus, the recipe calls for Ba-con!!!! http://thepaleoplunge.blogspot.com/2012/03/tasty-bison-stuffed-bell-peppers.html Look, this girl has bacony hearts all over her blog site
  9. Anyone I know --even those scary gluten eaters in my life! ---washes their hands frequently enough that they do not "spread gluten around like the plague." Gluten does not always stick onto door handles, keys and the dog just because someone who eats wheat touches these things in your home. There is a need to be cautious and HUGE need to be reasonable...
  10. Whoohoo! Good for you, MW The car plug-in cooler has saved my butt many times. You should have seen how much stuff we transported the first time we went away--as if we were going to outer Mongolia and there would be no food ...anywhere!!. It was just to Florida. They have lots of food in Florida. In fact, gasp!!....They have food everywhere...
  11. This is a beautiful poem, Peter. Thanks for posting it. The veterans distribute poppies here as thank yous for donations to veterans groups. Some of us wear them on our jackets. My beloved Dad and my FIL, several uncles and several cousins and some friends--all veterans--and I do indeed appreciate their service. My uncle was shot down over Germany...
  12. wow, ..Hi Chill!! so happy to see you! and that sounds yum....!
  13. you go, girl...enjoy...what one did you go for? Green's dark? hubs says that one is the best
  14. You just do not seem to understand that you have Celiac Disease---- and the only treatment for it is a gluten free diet. You are debilitated because you are not doing what needs to be done to heal the villi in your intestines. You feel like you are going to die because you KEEP EATING GLUTEN. You need to be strictly gluten free--for the rest of your life...
  15. ...because just chicken breast is not enough nutrition and you need to eat more, sweetie... IMHO
  16. one word for Jambalaya made by you---OUTRAGEOUSNODOUBT

  19. I think some are assuming this is her "future MIL"--she refers to her as her "boyfriend's mother". but yes, if this relationship is going anywhere and she is to be a part of your long and happy life, then you want to get her on board--and pronto! I had horrible reproductive/GYN/fertility issues from unDxed celiac, but as Celiac MW says...staying...
  20. Can I suggest something else? Get a copy of Celiac Disease: The Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Green and Rory Jones and have her read it. It may help her understand the seriousness of celiac disease and why it is imperative that you be careful with cross-contamination. Most foods need not be altered that much to be gluten-free--meats, fruits, veggies...
