  1. I agree that the convenience factor is a big pain in the butt, but I eat well and I can cook and bake, so I do not have much of an issue with being gluten-free at all. I DO have an issue with people who give ME grief because I have to be gluten-free because my life depends on it. If a waiter rolls his eyes or makes a derogatory snort or wise...
  2. You sound like me and a thousand others on here. I had the same experiences trying to get a DX. Symptom-treating us and we're still having symptoms, so it must be a psych issue. Bah! no it wasn't. Some neuropathy takes forever to heal, if at all. (according to my celiac-savvy doc) I still have some parasthesia, but most of it has resolved. ...
  3. No, no kitty you misread that. I SAW an AD for a dating site for people with allergies in Living Without Mag.
  4. COOL! I'm 45 mins. away. Have you been to Sherry Lynn's gluten-free cafe yet? So we do not highjack this thread, PM me and we can talk!
  5. If you had not felt a reduction in your pain off gluten---you said by 50%, right?--then I would not be so sure. But if eliminating gluten has given you that kind of amazing relief, then, my gut says it's part of the problem. We are not doctors on here and I do not want you to pin all your hopes on MY experience and symptoms, ok? If that test is negative...
  6. Well, see, isn't this perfect? One of your daughters can date her son! Look at that, IH is a match-maker. BTW, there IS a dating site for people with food allergies. I saw it advertised in Living Without Magazine.
  7. Hon, your son is already equipped to deal with challenges, having a DX so young. He's adaptable, right? He's flourishing, right? You're a good momma, right? RIGHT! He's a warrior!! I am sure you will teach him to deal with that dating hurdle too! No worries!! In the years to come, more and more people will be like US. WE will be the majority...
  8. There is something called MIMICREME that supposedly whips right up. Safe from all allergens. just sayin....

  10. My hubs found it at the health food co-op, the grocery store in the "natural and organic" section and it was also on the shelf with the Bob's Red Mill gluten-free baking products in another store and I have also purchased it online from nuts.com I get the whole flaxseed, and grind it (using a small coffee grinder) into a meal for use in smoothies, breads...
  11. My heart is in my throat right now, choking back tears for you--- because I can relate. THIS was ME for so long. Listen, you cannot make those muscles DO all that right now--they are probably wasting and you have lost mass (as mine did) from malabsorption. I forced myself to keep moving and exercising, despite the horrid pain because I was told it would...
  12. I said: I give it away for FREE ! the advice, that is....
  13. It's been a while, but in addition to that novel, we read Turn of the Screw by Henry James, some short stories by Christie, Poe, Lord Dunsany, Roald Dahl; ...what else? oh, the Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, Other Voices, Other Rooms, can't recall the rest. It was a fun course!
  14. I just started a thread about dating advice after seeing that a woman who is a "gluten free mentor" advertises an e-book for $27 that tells gluten-free people how to "safely" have a romance/relationship. Really. $27. Boggles the mind.
  15. For starters, he might have better luck with the girls if he stands up and takes that bib off.
  16. well, I think so, but I think I'm a pretty fun girl....
  17. Have 2, sweetie. Custard is my fav!! As for the PT and chiro and joint pain, etc.--well, that was MY life for 12 YEARS with no relief. Plus burning nerve pain and parasthesia and weakness and muscle wasting. I am glad you are nipping this in the bud now before it gets to the point where you are debilitated. I was headed for a wheelchair, but I refused...
  18. Good ones, Jess. I'm a Parker fan.
  19. Saw this on someone's blog today. A woman, a self proclaimed "gluten free mentor" offers an ebook. Here is what she offers:
  20. Honest to Gawd, I just KNEW one of you was going to say this.
  21. ditto! Food snob right here! guilty!
  22. Love these! Steven Wright says these: You can lead a horse to water......but you can't hold his head under. It's a small world.....but you wouldn't wanna paint it. >> >> PARAPROSDOKIANS... (Winston Churchill loved them) are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; frequently humorous...
  23. One of the signs of celiac to me. So sorry, kiddo. You have all done all you can. Do not beat yourself up over it. I have family members I can't get to see the light either. My GI doc told me to give it up--for my own sanity and good health. He said "Even MY OWN parents don't listen to me. They said to him "what do YOU know?"
  24. Welcome to the fold! Most people eat a plain whole foods diet at first, but many incorporate certified gluten-free foods right away without trouble. You may need to give up dairy for a few months. May I direct you to this thread for newbies so you can read through it? There are food suggestions, as well as other links for practical advice. ...
