  3. For constipation and/or diarrhea, I highly recommend taking probiotics every day. Try Culturelle, it's gluten-free and dairy free. Drink a lot of water to flush your system. Celiac guts have unbalanced gut flora and need them. Open Original Shared Link HEALING TIMES VARY FROM PERSON TO PERSON, SO DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED IF YOU TAKE A FEW MONTHS TO...

  6. Glad it helps get you started. I hate to see newbies (as I once was) become fearful of eating. Just remember FRESH is best and WHOLE Foods are better than packaged stuff. and READ LABELS because ingredients can CHANGE!
  7. well, there you are. To each her own, I guess. Frankly, NONE of the crackers taste that great to me, I just used the lesser of all evils when I needed to serve some cheese to guests.
  8. You're welcome. Just remember, though FRESH is best. And homemade is better than packaged. (especially bread) Your diet should be more about the fruits, vegs, meat, seafood and nuts. The packaged stuff is convenient, yes, but the real nutrition is in the WHOLE natural foods. Okay, kiddo?! Be well--and check out the recipes in the cooking and baking...
  9. amen to that, sistah!! I put that one suggestion in BOLD. Who among us hasn't had THAT bite us on the behind?? Hubs is the grocery shopper and he reads labels like a pro.
  10. "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." Margaret Thatcher zus, You're in the thick of battle now, kiddo. My hubby put this quote by Thatcher up on the fridge back in 2008 as we began our long search for an answer to what had gone so terribly wrong in my body. This is your motto now. DO. NOT. QUIT. JUST take...
  11. Maybe this will help?? I compiled it for my family (and a friend with gluten intolerance) after I was DXed and figured out this stuff myself--with help from this site and lots of research. You can do this! Is your printer ready??? For basic info: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Dietary concerns –LISTS OF safe a...
  12. I say...1/2 empty, 1/2 full?? either way, it's time to go back up to the bar... Welcome to the Forum and to your New Life! Do not fear the gluten free lifestyle. It's not as complicated as it seems at first. It saved my life. I lost years of my life to this disease, but I am coming back. Anything we can do to help, just ask!!...
  13. In a way, we ARE right on here!! Look how much valuable info is right here for "free" from the people who live it each day. Many books have been written-- like Danna Korn's and Jules Shephard's books --that are very helpful to newbies. But I fully intend to write a book someday--my doctor and my family have urged me to do it--from the perspective...
  14. Hello and welcome! I have tried a few brands of crackers (some are just awful ) and I have to agree with Lisa--the Glutinos are the best so far. Hub's aunt was here for Christmas Eve and ate them with cheese, etc. and said "What kind of crackers are these? I like them a LOT!" I told her the name and said, "You know they are gluten-free, right...
  15. There are no coincidences, hon.... A sign, fate, divine intervention, the universe speaking? whatever! ....makes no matter what we call such things; you can call it "an awakening", perhaps? In any case, I am glad to see you are "listening". You are right; some things are Thrust upon us we did not ask for and we feel helpless ---but those things...
  16. I had shaky hands. I felt like I could not get them to do what I wanted. I could not lift things, open things, or carry things while very ill from Un- Dxed Celiac. I shook all over actually--legs, too. My hands hurt so bad, I cried. Yes, I have osteoarthritis, but the pain and shakiness made no sense. I have body -wide muscle/joint/bone pain and nerve...
  17. Oh yes indeed! Ugly low back pain. Severe pelvic pain throughout. (I have major joint/bone/muscle pain from celiac but it is LESS since being gluten-free.)
  18. I have been reading your posts for a long time and at first, I felt enormous compassion for your plight and gave you my best advice and some cyber- hugs of support and when I did not see you around for a while, I thought "Great, this beautiful girl with the beautiful children has made peace with this and is off happily living her life!" Yet, here you...
  19. I am with Domestic Activist on this. I keep everything about my health in a file on the laptop--saved to disk. My health history, my family health history, current supplements/vitamins and copies of every single lab test, reports, MRI scans, DEXA scans, mammogram reports, post-surgical reports and PT reports. Everything. When I go to the...

  21. thanks--and I LOVE the quote in your sig line. So true!!! (and I was a teacher and I am a gardener as well.) Off topic, I know....okay back to the food discussion!!!!! Tonight we are having grilled chicken Caesar salad. No obnoxiously rich cake left--I gave it to the neighbors
  22. C'mon over! Seriously, I don't want to give you the impression we eat like that every day, hon. That was a New Year's Eve Special. For nearly 4 years I could not eat anything without getting ill or experiencing severe GI tract burning--even in my mouth. I have not been able to cook/bake like that for so long. No strength in my arms and legs and I...
  23. Thanks, K. I love Mex.
  24. Well, that does explain your hesitation about restaurants. Yet, I do think you might venture out from time to time? Sometimes, I wish gluten would glow green and make it easy for us all.
