  1. One other thought--re:anemia. Besides iron deficiency anemia, many celiacs have BOTH B-12 and FOLATE deficiencies which cause fatigue, aches and pains. Low energy and nausea, tingling, burning, etc. Ask for your B-12, FOLATE and D levels to me checked. It was the folate level that no one checked that kept me feeling so bad--so I asked for the test...
  2. I want to caution you against thinking you have developed intolerances to everything else under the sun. Many of us get caught up in that thinking because we are not healing fast enough (so we think) and then, a bit of panic evolves. Been there/done that myself. You are STILL healing and if you are getting CCed, the antibodies are still raised and...
  3. Tried your recipe today--I used ricotta instead of cottage cheese because I had some in the house--and it was VERY TASTY INDEED! I used corn pasta and I could see how it would be easily converted to Mex--as Karen suggests. Hubby liked it and had seconds. That's always a good sign. Thanks for posting this recipe! It's almost like lasagna--only quicker...
  4. Really? a college course is being offered on "gluten free"?? wow--that's new. And that is not necessarily true--many, many packages of food items in the stores do not have a "gluten free" label and they are naturally gluten free--like boxes of oranges and packages of beef, etc.
  5. Do not be embarrased about poop. Unfortunately, we all know way too much about it. It was the last thing I expected to become a pseudo- expert on. But I had to because I was wasting away and suffered the big D or C ---all the time---and I was in constant pain and had to figure out what the heck to do about it. I was 225 myself when the celiac triggered...
  6. Well, this is GREAT news, hon--compared to where you were just two weeks ago!! yaaay!! Best to you!
  7. Re: meats Watch for labels on sausages. They are not all gluten free. Spices used in the processing can be CCed. Meats that have spices, marinades, rubs---usually NOT gluten-free. Check labels carefully.
  8. Here's your Whoohoo!!! and I'll throw in a "YOU GO, Girl"! You are not only inspiring, but your courage just humbles me. (I thought I was a warrior princess) ---well, honey, you are the QUEEN! Best wishes and a hug, IH
  9. from herpes zoster clinic. "It is not clear what prompts the virus to reactivate or "awaken" in healthy people. A temporary weakness in immunity (the body's ability to fight infection) may allow the virus to multiply and move along nerve fibers toward the skin. Although children can get shingles, it is more common in people over the age 50. Illness,...
  10. Have you seen the book Allergy Free Desserts by Elizabeth Gordon? It has amazing recipes in it. She has some on her site. gluten-free, dairy, soy, nut and egg- free too! Open Original Shared Link and this may give you some ideas too... Open Original Shared Link
  11. well, I see you have been given the answer already--and you can trust her advice --she is one heckuva cook/baker! I am so glad to see you trying your hand at baking again, Coll!! never give up. Good for you. Feeling better are you? I think about you often!! IH
  12. whoo hoo is right! congrats!!
  13. It's only necessary when the doc cannot distinguish it from other rashes. If both docs say it's shingles, it's probably shingles. We could speculate all day long whether or not resuming the gluten was the catalyst for it, the point is, it's here now. SUZANNA---With the addition of antivirals--- and I believe you said antibiotics as well??...
  14. The doc took a "scraping" from hub's rash--like a swab--- to be sent to the lab when he suspected shingles, but he also gave him the anti-virals right there in the office. And yes, the shingles were very painful. I used the word biopsy in my previous post with a ?? because I wanted to be sure I gave the right info. Maybe not all docs do this?? Not sure...
  15. well, sweetie, look at it this way, a LONG healthy life is a very GOOD thing! But I understand what you are saying...it is a shock and an adjustment and we all "get that",hon--we really do! And in time, you will come to a place of acceptance. Don't get all panicky about gluten and cross-contamination. We all mess up on occassion. I got glutened by CC...
  16. oh man, after the holidays, my pants are too tight NOW..... thanks for sharing!
  17. Yes, thank you Skylark (you are so good about posting journal articles for us), and I have read some abstracts of studies linking the two AI diseases, however... I wanted the poster to tell us where she found the information that is behind her statement that PSC is CURED by a GFD. Unfortunately, I found nothing to support this claim...
  18. I had migraines almost all of my adult life--pre-DX-- and now, I do not. So yes, it is entirely possible the gluteny barley gave you that headache and the nausea. I do admit I miss barley a little--My favorite soup was beef barley--but I do NOT miss feeling ill every single day of my life.
  19. I was reading about PSC before I posted to Zus' thread here--and I did not see this information anywhere. I did see some articles suggesting a link to celiac disease, but nothing stating that it was cured by a GFD. This would be amazing! Can you post the source of this information for Zus here --so she can read it??
  20. So happy to hear from you and I loved learning that you liked the pizza! Peace, happiness and health to you in the New Year!

  21. And WHEN exactly did they appear, hon? After you resumed gluten?? This is why I am suspicious, that's all. Okay, now everybody will want to weigh in on all the other issues you have raised and it will get overwhelming for you again. So, let's take one step at a time. IMHO--. If the hysterectomy is scheduled because of something life-threatening...
  22. I was just going to say EXACTLY what PP said above--- I would be skeptical those are shingles, I bet that's your "prize" for resuming GLUTEN. If he did not test you for shingles, which is done I believe, by a culture from a biopsy?? or checking for elevated herpes zoster antibodies, (which were elevated in me while on gluten, BTW) then, I fear...
  23. Me, too--dental surgeries and stitches this past year. I take awhile to rebound from surgeries and injuries (I just sprained the ligaments in my ankle so badly 10 weeks ago and I am still rehabbing it ,) but I have been very ill for many years. But I doubt it is the stitches causing you a problem. Do follow up with your doctor if you are...
  24. You are so welcome. BTW, I noticed your sig line states you are "thinking of going gluten free for 3 months"....Hon, if you have diagnosed celiac, you need to be gluten-free for life so you can avoid developing any further complications, vitamin deficiencies and autoimmune diseases. Better read up on the disease process so you understand why...
  25. Walmart's, any drugstore--online--supermarkets. You should be able to find it! & Lots of water.... hang in there!!
