  1. Tylenol. (advil is gluten-free but it is ibuprofen) here is a list of medications and OTC drugs. Open Original Shared Link
  2. This post is a year old and the original poster may not see your reply. Just so you know!
  3. and this is why, my dear girl, we are Warrior Princesses! For all I lost the past few years, I never lost my sense of humor or my joy for life. Even on the darkest days. To us! I am sipping champagne with my love right now--who has thanked me repeatedly for fighting so hard and saving my own life---and I toast you and your equally devoted husband...
  4. yes, that's how I felt--reinventing the wheel over and over. Insane. I have a long recovery ahead of me. I suffered massive muscle and joint and nerve damage from long UnDXed celiac, but at least I can absorb foods now. I am in Physical therapy, massage therapy etc. etc. several times a week. it's tiring and I get frustrated because in essence, I could...
  5. Happy New Year and I hope 2012 finds you feeling better and better every day. Thanks for all the help you are giving to others. You've paid it forward and then some!

  6. I understand. My sister has diabetes and managing it takes work. My friend--a nurse--developed a latex allergy and had to leave her career as a surgical nurse. Very sad. It gets crazy when the body goes haywire. I am hoping you can heal the gut and tolerate some more foods once more. I am still stunned by what happened to me sometimes and now that...
  7. I use ones recommended by my very celiac-savvy GI doc. The are a good broad-spectrum one studied extensively. CULTURELLE --DF and gluten-free. OTC about $19. or so-- for a 30-day supply. . Take them every day, not just sporadically. It's worth a try. And they are beneficial and cannot hurt you--they occur naturally in your body. I am not sure about...
  8. IMHO A dietician will not be of much use. You already know what's bothering you. If you are having reactions to that many foods-- as I once was ---it is not necessarily the food proteins themselves causing the problem, but your gut. You can keep switching foods in and out until doomsday and never find the culprit. Many of us have had this similar...
  9. Well, I had my first glass ( and second) on Christmas Eve since DX (and I LOVE champagne ) and honey, it was yummy and I am fab!! Peter speaks the truth. Wine is fine. Cheers, IH
  10. well, thanks, hon!! that made me feel good!! I have lots to be grateful for and an AMAZING husband who stuck by me and took care of me and I figure I have been squashed down by illness for so long and I just simply REFUSE to let it own me. There were some pretty dark days there and I was not always upbeat, believe me--I cried and screamed a LOT!!--but...
  11. She is still learning about gluten and because she is your MOM, she still feels the innate desire to feed you. She's trying. Be patient, honey--just gently remind her every time--"No, Mom--it's gluten, I can't eat that" And I am just curious--but does she have a gluten issue herself? Could be why she is not "getting it" entirely...sometimes...
  12. Now that I am on the mend physically (but still going to PT and MT twice a week for muscle/joint rehab) I am looking forward to doing more PHYSICAL activities. . I even stacked some fire wood yesterday. I have not done that in 3 years! whoohoo!! We were rehabbing every room in our home by ourselves--painting, wood flooring, slate flooring, etc.-- but...
  13. Fantastic!! Kuddos to you and your son. Give him a big hug from all of us!
  14. "The absence of any portion of the high-risk genetic patterns DQ2 and DQ8 nearly excludes the possibility of celiac disease with an approximate accuracy of 99.9%. However, there is a big caveat about relying on "negative celiac genetic testing". To definitively declare you have negative celiac genetic tests requires that the laboratory test for and report...
  15. You are so right, J. Thanks for clarifying further. From all the medical articles and books I have read, these are the genes they "believe" are associated with it. Some state unequivocally, however, that in the absence of those two genes, you do not have celiac. This is obviously outdated thinking. And my GI says there are people who do not have...
  16. In the 3 years I searched for an answer to my rapidly declining health and excruciating pain, I saw dozens of doctors, specialists in 3 different states/(dentists even--for the jaw, skull and facial pain I also developed)/allergists/NDs & various alternative care types who said something like this: (with condescension and skepticism) "In my ___ years...
  17. well, I guess --since Eatmeat4good and I are friends---that would be me! I suffered horrible burning sensations from my scalp to my toes. EVERYWHERE. I felt like I was on fire. It is not caused by anxiety--it is a histamine response from celiac. My new GI doc tells me anything can happen with celiac. No one could tell me what it was. (neurologists...
  18. The only problem is Mom and daughter both (and her husband as well) want a diagnosis via biopsy and no ND is qualified to do this procedure.
  19. These are the two genes that PREVAILING science/medical researchers believe are the "main celiac" genes. ETA: that are associated with celiac. Are there more at play? Yes, so it would seem!!! The jury is still out. Look at Ravenwoodglass' genetic test result. Dr. Fasano is not ruling anything out. He is one guy who is still looking for answers...
  20. I have one of those as well. Type 1 diabetes, hypothyroid, and so much more--- and ME with a DX!!!...but nope, she is not going to be tested. No way. I have begged but now, I have to back off so she does not get mad at me. I love my big sister. Makes me sad. But we are all adults and make decisions we have to live with. That's why J is lucky to...
  21. Well, I was going to say the exact same thing as Mushroom. so I will just add: "IBS" (I was told I had that too--what a lame "DX"--I would ask my doc but WHY is it irritable?? he had no answer ) ) and lactose intolerance and joint pain and yes, even your ancestry (I am Irish, French, German and Armenian, BTW!)--they are all possible ...
  22. I completely understand that validation aspect. I wanted that myself--so that all of this nightmare I suffered would somehow make sense to me. I kept saying "there has to be a reason for why things have gone so wrong" in my body. I just would not give up. Glad we could help--if for nothing else than just listening. Keep us posted.
  23. As I will be on your home turf, I will do your bidding I'm like a pet, feed me & I'm yours.
  24. You're welcome. I am just sooooooo glad you found the culprit and that now you can heal up and get on with it. yaaay!!! Be well, hon!!
  25. I think you did a fine job answering the questions, hon! No to the first and yes to the second. You owe no one any other explanation. You could always send them some info on celiac/NGCI to read? And PS..I have always loved the Japanese poem in your sig line.
