  1. I agree with the Capt. Don't try to guess which ones are low. Tell you doctor and request blood work--and ask specifically for D, B-12, Folate to be done as well. These are frequently low in us celiacs and cause fatigue and weakness. (at least the folate def. did that to me) and once supplemented with prescription folic acid and B-12, and 5,000 ius...
  2. Hubby will be happy to hear that about Dogfish Head--they make good beer. Green's is good, but pricey. Bard's is our fav. (except we are thinking it is time for home brew at the price of this stuff. ) He brewed his own before my DX--need to replace some equipment first. If you like cider, he said to tell you Woodchuck is decent--- as is Longbow...
  3. ((HUGS)) sorry hon!! yes, unfortunately, we do keep learning THE HARD WAY sometimes (I had a CC issue a few weeks ago when I trusted a "flourless cake" that was supposed to be gluten-free...um, nope! Hope it passes quickly and that your New Year is happy!!
  4. Hi Chill! I would avoid the raw stuff for now and do as these wise women suggest. I know you have had a long road and I am happy to hear you are doing better!! I had to re-try some foods repeatedly (0ff and on) for the last year, but I am making progress as well. Best wishes!
  5. Healing times vary, hon, so it is difficult to say. Have you eliminated dairy? It can cause these problems as well. Just a thought! Try some probiotics?? They help with bowel issues.
  6. Yes, it could just be the dairy still giving you trouble. As Peter explained above, it is a secondary intolerance in celiac, but most people can "do dairy" again in a few months. I had to take out dairy for almost 10 months (but I am a lot older than you are and had more damage) and now, I can eat cheese (yaay!) and last night, I had whipped cream...
  7. That's what I do, too! I just say homemade! No one cares what's in it. It tastes yummy, that's all that matters. Hon, your goodies look AMAZING!! Kuddos to you!! That toffee looks so good! (I thought my mince pie, pumpkin muffins and cheescake looked fab)
  8. Hi K! Glad to hear you are doing well! This was my first Christmas totally gluten-free and post-DX and was able to don my chef's cap again for the first time since taking seriously ill in 2007. It was miraculous to be able to eat and drink whatever I wanted once again. To be able to enjoy food again without pain!! I actually have tears...

  10. Since increased intraepithelial lymphocytes are associated with early stage celiac (marsh 1, for example) AND villous blunting is certainly a celiac symptom AND you have chronic inflammation AND you already had a POSITIVE biopsy (geesh, how many biopsies are they going to put you through?? ) it sure would make me think I have Celiac...
  11. I just reread everything you wrote here and the chocolate probably had soy lecithin and sugar in it and that may be why you had a reaction. Try to avoid chocolate and sugar for a few weeks, okay? The oats may NOT be gluten-free....check the label and tell me what kind it is. Maybe we can get to the bottom of this. The few foods you are eating may...
  12. The So Delicious Coconut milk is in the dairy section in a red carton and it is not much more expensive than cow's milk. If you just use it on your gluten-free cereal, it lasts a week. There is a major difference between allergies and intolerances which is why I am so perplexed. If he did a skin prick test, those are allergies. There is no way he can...
  13. hi

just thought i would let you know im taking your advice and i want to thank you so very much for helping me

  14. Excellent point, Karen!! I am so focused on trying to get this poor girl out of the burning pain, I failed to see that part. However, she did have the upper GI series with the barium drink which would have shown any abnormalities of the tract. But does it pick up ulcers? She said the doctor said her problem was "not severe enough" to warrant a GI doctor...
  15. You may want to lay off the yogurt for a while, hon. Dairy is dairy. Try no milk at all, even the "lactose-free" stuff because it may be the casein in the dairy (which is the protein) that is bothering you. I'd be interested in knowing how an allergist diagnosed a lactose "allergy"--as I have never heard of that. Can you use So Delicious Coconut...
  16. Glad it helped. Those things have any number of causes but the L-lysine has worked for me. RE: the yeasties---are you taking probiotics??
  17. Ah, see I did not know that. A whole year huh??? Tragic. Honestly, I did not wait for biopsy either. And my doc now does not want me to do a gluten challenge under any circumstances. I was dying for 3 years while waiting for a doctor to figure it out. (I did) He just shakes his head when I tell him about all of you on here --he is appalled at how many...
  18. Probably not gluten that "got ya" , unless it says WHEAT on the label?? My guess is the lactose. Stay off the dairy for a while, hon. If you're newly DXed, it's secondary lactose intolerance. It will resolve in time. Most celiacs can tolerate dairy in a few months. It took me longer, but I was very sick for a long time before DX. What concerns me...
  19. Dump this Doc or educate her! SEVERE muscle, joint, bone pain hit me so hard pre-DX, it was suggested I get a scooter to get around. I could not sit, stand, walk or lie down without severe pain. BURNING nerve pain, too ---I was in AGONY! I am in PT and MT 2X a week to regain my lost muscle mass. I have a long rehab ahead of me, but my NEW celiac-savvy...
  20. Hey Noodle! How sweet of you to express your thanks. I also say thanks to the veterans and regulars for all the encouragement and support this past year. I could not have recovered so well without you. Happy and HEALTHY New Year to us all. Cheers, IH
  21. You poor babe. This is a bit baffling, but maybe we can at least get the D under control. Do you still have that? If you are constantly having D, you are surely dehydrated. Drink a LOT of water. How did this allergist determine it was a YEAST infection? Unless you have a raging one you can SEE? Honestly, the best thing for the diarrhea is probiotics...
  22. Depending on the circumstance-whether it is one person asking or if I am in a more "party" setting--I have a few ways of dealing with those questions. I say: Gluten is like kryptonite to me and Super Girl can't fly when it's around. or I say: I eat tons of different, delicious foods and don't find it restrictive at all. You should taste the killer...
  23. You are on Nystatin, then. Oral lozenge or powder? Ok, Yes, I am familiar with this drug. My good friend with yeast outbreaks takes this. Hon, do you see a gastro doctor?? You need to drink a LOT of water with a probiotic. I would suggest you keep taking it, but you can ask your doctor first if you are not sure. But they should NOT hurt you; they...
  24. A year??? Why is that?? Well, you seem to have answered your own question. You said you already know gluten is a problem for you and you would go gluten-free anyway even if the test were negative. Would I eat a gluten filled diet for a year, waiting for a biopsy? Um, NO! IMHO Dietary compliance is often an issue even for DXed Celiacs...
  25. It's interesting, but after all this helpful discussion, the OP has not been back on since she posted this topic (Dec. 19)?! Hopefully, she is not feeling too poorly....
