ARCHIVED Dairy Reaction To Probiotics?
IrishHeart replied to revenant's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I think if they assure you it is dairy free, they mean it. I never had an issue with probiotics, dairy free or not ---BUT I do use the ones that are both DF and gluten-free. Best wishes! -
Zantac is ranitidine. You can get it generic at half the cost. But you will need to ask if it is gluten-free and check to see if it is contraindicated for you..

ARCHIVED What's The Best And Worst About Being Super-Sensitive?
IrishHeart replied to T.H.'s topic in Super Sensitive People
I have to say that I don't really notice that I spend more time prep-wise or at the grocery store or farmer's markets at all. Not anymore anyway, since I learned the ropes. Plain, pure, whole foods are easy. I do admit that I spend more time ADAPTING recipes. But I think that part is fun and creative. (it wasn't when I was still quite ill and... -
ARCHIVED Are You A Biopsy Confirmed Celiac But Gene Negative?
IrishHeart replied to researchmomma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do not understand. You had a positive biopsy & you have celiac, so why would he bother?????? A genetic test was primarily used as a means of exclusion. Does he think the villi were damaged by some other means? -
ARCHIVED Mouth Sores
IrishHeart replied to Lady Jane's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
(chuckling) most docs pooh-pooh supplements--which is odd because they give us Vitamin D when we are low, B-12 when we are low, etc.--so obviously, supplementing is sometimes necessary. We do need to pick and choose of course, because over-supplementing is not beneficial either. Celiacs are low in essential amino acids because of prolonged malabsorption... -
ARCHIVED Are You A Biopsy Confirmed Celiac But Gene Negative?
IrishHeart replied to researchmomma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Genetic testing can be done through your physician or by independent labs. Saliva, blood or stool sample. I did mine by saliva swab, but my GI wanted to confirm via stool testing. Results were the same. (For those who doubt Enterolab's saliva gene test) -
ARCHIVED Mother Drives Me Nuts Cooking Gluten Laden Foods
IrishHeart replied to catlover0329's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Who among us hasn't made a mistake as Newbies? She said she believed her father said one was gluten free. And quite frankly, I think you all may have missed this one important and poignant sentence in the OP's post: "I am very hurt and frustrated about this. I'm about to have surgery that will prevent me from being able to eat much for hte rest of... -
Jane, This post is very old and the original poster and responders to it may not see it. Try posting your questions as a NEW topic so someone can read it and maybe help you out. IH

How does it "make eating okay" again? Do you mean it magically takes away the damaging effects of gluten in a Celiac? Because there is no magic bullet for that. Sorry, kiddo. If there were, it would be front page news and the developer would win the Nobel Prize in Medicine. From the website: "Glutenzyme is a digestive enzyme specifically...

ARCHIVED Do You Just Feel Sick?
IrishHeart replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hear ya! I feel "useless" not being able to do things I used to. If only we could just rebound that quickly. Sorry, Kiddo. My back and neck pain is EXCRUCIATING and I have seen orthopedic doctors, neurologists, rheumatologists and spine specialists. I have horrible SPINE pain. YEARS of testing, MRIs and THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. ALL before DX. No... -

ARCHIVED Do You Just Feel Sick?
IrishHeart replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, I am not sure then what else to suggest. I know that the last thing anyone wants to hear is "just be patient" when you feel so bad. I did not like hearing that either. I cried every day for many months-between the GI tract pain and the joint & nerve pain, I was miserable. I wonder if now that your gallbladder is out that it might start to correct... -
ARCHIVED Two Docs With Differing Opinions

Excellent points, Skylark! And, my new GI doctor (who is in his early 30's) has told me that many of his colleagues are not convinced that Celiac is as prevalent as it is. It's under-diagnosed and it is not really discussed that much in medical school or even in the GI specialty. He told me he presented my case to his colleagues and they all said... -
ARCHIVED Do You Just Feel Sick?
IrishHeart replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
BINGO!! And there it is! So glad you mentioned this!! I am betting this it your problem. When someone tells us their celiac panels are good ---but they started having a problem when this happened:(fill in the blank)--- THAT is the almost always the culprit. You are correct--it is NOT because you are not complying with the diet. Antibiotics... -
ARCHIVED Perfect Bumper Sticker For People Like Us!
IrishHeart replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Before DX, I had a few such emergencies. Many times, I found myself with my key in the lock, praying I would get inside fast enough. When I was still teaching, I had to leave the room a few times, using the guise of "Break into groups and discuss (fill in the blank)..." And the absolute worse case scenario arose twice: We only have one bathroom... -
ARCHIVED Mother Drives Me Nuts Cooking Gluten Laden Foods
IrishHeart replied to catlover0329's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do not blame you for being upset! ( I am not sure how you determined one was gluten-free by just "looking at it"?) Hopefully, you will feel better soon. I don't know which is more disturbing, the fact that she may have deliberately sent two loaves with gluten in them or that your father found it funny. You said "I could have sworn my dad said... -
ARCHIVED Mascara Brands gluten-free?
IrishHeart replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ditto from me! I also use Maybelline Great Lash when I "dress up" . I am lucky to have long eyelashes but I suffered from blepharitis before DX. Sore, dry, swollen &, itchy eyes and now, no problem. My eyes are fine and I use this mascara. I sincerely doubt it's any gluten you may be reacting to. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Toothpaste
IrishHeart replied to theemurman1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am extremely sensitive myself and use SENSODYNE pronamel with no trouble whatsoever. But if eliminating it has helped you, that's a good thing. P.S. This thread is old and the original poster may not see it. You may want to check the dates on the original posts before replying. -

ARCHIVED Is Yeast Gluten Free?
IrishHeart replied to River*'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since there are about 13 different raw grain sprouts and probiotics in that protein formula, I suspect your "reaction" is not from gluten --but because it is full of fiber and that may be an overload on your system and that will certainly cause a "reaction". You may wish to back off that stuff until you heal a bit more? Some "digestive aids, detox/healing... -
ARCHIVED Grain Fed Meats

ARCHIVED Two Docs With Differing Opinions
IrishHeart replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hon, I have to tell you in all honesty (because I always am!) that it took me nearly a year to get rid of about 2/3 of my MANY symptoms. I still have a long way to go. The NEURO issues take the longest to resolve--from what I have researched & read and from personal experiences that people have generously shared with me. I think a DX at our age (and I... -

Hon, there is no need for be afraid of food (or your cooking utensils and pots and pans.) Are your pots and pans porous? No, of course not--so no worries. If they have scratched surfaces, then, yes, replace them. If you can't afford to replace them all at once, do one a month. If you have a wooden cutting board, wooden utensils or a plastic colander...
