  1. Thanks, K!! Honest, the poop thing is the least of my worries. It's the "gluten head" and agitation/insomnia/extra joint/nerve pain I can't stand....I get a whole mix of fun stuff with gluten! and really, the "poop diaries" would just be another yawn fest to you guys--been there done that, right??
  2. Thanks, Lisa. I know it's temporary but gee whiz (I'm being "mild" in my speech here ) it's frustrating to lose another week of my life in gluten-induced hell. My friend says her road and mine are similar (she has MS) We never quit and our progress may be slow, but it's steady...like the tortoise. And as I recall, he won the race..yes? Yes...
  3. I'm posting this here because I am not whining (honest) and I don't want to play the "poor me" card, but sonav*&^^%, I'm POed and I want to say it in this section where the silly people lurk and they will laugh me out of it. It took me a full 11 months post DX before I said one day to my hubs, "OMG! This is the best I have felt in 5 years. If...
  4. You're not complaining at all. You feel yucky. And It's okay to vent! If it's any consolation, I am keeping you company. I got glutened by a gluten-free "flourless chocolate cake"(on my first dinner out in a year post DX--for our anniversary!!!!) and I have been sick for a week. I just emailed the manager explaining that wheat flour free doesn't...
  5. Well, I was unfamiliar with HS until this moment, so I took some time to read about it. I am so sorry you suffer this condition (it sounds painful) and I hope you get relief from going gluten-free. I did not know it was related to celiac, so thank you for enlightening me. Also, WELCOME to the Forum!! Best wishes, Irish
  6. If you cannot make your own pasta. I think the Tinkyada brown rice pasta (penne, ziti, elbows, etc.) tastes darn close to the real deal. I am not a big fan of the corn pasta. Just my taste buds, maybe. Just one secret--my cousin shared this after much trial and error--don't follow the cooking directions on the package. Cook for 13 mins. at most. Check...

Some gluten-free chicken broth with plain rice in it. Popsicles. gatorade. Sips of water. Stay hydrated, hon. You will feel better if you are hydrated. The nausea is awful and I feel for you. I got glutened myself last week (first time out to dinner in a year and I trusted the chef's "flourless chocolate cake" offered on the gluten-free menu...
  8. Maybe they are symptoms of other disorders, but if you have DH, you have Celiac--so, why wouldn't they be RELATED??? As long as you continue to ingest gluten, you continue the autoimmune response in your body. The only way to find out is to STOP consuming gluten! Denial will not change this fact. I'm sorry, hon, but it's time to face it. The doctors...
  9. But, hon, they were so wrong. It's criminal that you were given that information. A gluten-free diet is neither expensive nor that complicated. But honestly, if you have read anything about celiac Disease, certainly you saw that ALL PEOPLE WITH DH have Celiac? A physician recommended a TANNING BED?? What idiot (yes, I said idiot) would do that? This...
  10. Oh, I see, we have already covered this topic....thanks, Skylark. People with DH have Celiac Disease. Period. You need to remain on a gluten-free diet. From the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University: Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is the skin manifestation of celiac disease. All patients with DH have celiac disease. It is...

I know you are concerned about the hypothyroid issue as well (as we discussed in your other post), but please read this, so you can understand the link between gluten and thyroid antibodies and that they should go down once you adopt a gluten-free diet. Some people do need medications because they went too long UnDXed, but I did not. My thyroid (once bouncing...

I agree with this too , Boog...it's poison to you. See, hon, we all think the same thing. Stay off it and give it time.
  13. Hon, if you have DH, you have Celiac Disease. You need to be gluten free for life. Do you mean you went OFF a gluten-free diet for 6 months to see what would happen? Were you strictly gluten free before that? Why would you go back on gluten, then? I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. and..you have all those symptoms you listed...

Hypothryoidism does not cause nausea and vomiting. It's not food poisoning. Seriously, after all we talked about with you in that long thread last week, what do YOU think caused it?? Sorry you feel so yucky, but what more proof do you need, kiddo? In answer to your other question, if I am exposed to gluten by CC, I am nauseous, have...
  15. "IBS" is a syndrome. A collection of symptoms doctors lump together when they don't know what else to call it. The question I always asked was "yes, but WHY is my bowel irritable?" No one ever answered me. Well, I know now--it was GLUTEN. I had "IBS" for over 12 years. They gave me Aciphex, Zantac, etc. (which was a mistake because celiacs --like...
  16. For more good info, here is an amazing collection of medical articles someone has generously posted on the internet called the Gluten File. Tons of information about celiac and the various disorders and symptoms associated with it. I researched my brains out trying to figure out what was going on inside me for over 3 years, so I have lots of info bookmarked...
  17. It's funny, but when I took zantac for two weeks, when I was really, really sick and had horrid stomach pain, GERD, burning throat and mouth, lip, chest pain, awful bowel stuff, living in the the bathroom, blah blah blah.... the doctor insisted I try it....I got NO relief whatsoever. (I think I was just too far gone from villi damage at the time.) I...
  18. Good for you--a thorough doctor! The GI doc will want a copy of those labs she just ran. Tell him what she did ----so they can coordinate your care. Ask HIM to run the antibodies test and tell him all that is still going on. He'll decide if you need another biopsy. I'd type it all out, save it and print it off for every doc visit. That...
  19. oh No, I was't insulted hon I was confused by what you think are "celiac reactions" as opposed to your wheat allergy--because the ones you are listing here are also reactions to gluten. Trish, I do not think you are reacting to barley and rye because of cross- contamination from wheat. I think you are reacting because you cannot tolerate the...
  20. Living Gluten Free for Dummies by Danna Korn The Jules Shepard book that Celtic Queen mentions in the post prior to mine. and Recognizing Celiac Disease by Cleo J. Libonati, RN
  21. How does a lab lose blood? for pete's sake! geesh. Sorry you are still waiting. I am not surprised. If you are like me, I find that lab test results, waiting for insurance approval, etc....all of these things are always delayed...sigh... the medical system... Hang in there!
  22. um, what is a celiac reaction? Not sure what you mean by this. What happened when you ate barley and rye?
  23. Wonder why the allergist did not know this?
  24. As a serious foodie/gourmet cook, and a lover of Italian food especially, I was thinking my joy of cooking/eating was over. That's just not true. Mary Capone, Kelli & Peter Bronski, and many others are chefs with celiac who prove that delicious, artisinal cooking is still possible. Have fun with it!
  25. You're welcome!
