ARCHIVED Chickpea Flour Plugs Nutritional Gap
IrishHeart replied to kenlove's topic in Publications & Publicity
I think it is okay in baked goods where I use spices, but I really have to be honest, I just do not like it in my bread. Funny taste. (just my taste buds maybe?) We use it anyway for the protein. -
ARCHIVED Beyond Confused! Help Plz!
IrishHeart replied to hspichke's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree---Push for a FULL Celiac panel. Pregnancy is often a trigger for Celiac. Your symptoms are very similar to mine ---but I could never carry to term and had multiple miscarriages and failed fertility treatments. That was in my 30's. Endometriosis, cysts, fibroids, heavy bleeding, blah blah blah . I had a painful, dreadful early menopause and... -

IrishHeart replied to carolynmay's topic in Super Sensitive People
That is an interesting report! I did read it (when I should be wrapping gifts and trimming the tree, but I wanted to see what it said) but fortheloveofmike!---you might have just directed us to page 44 for the point you were trying to make. -
ARCHIVED A Summary Of 2011 (Funny)
IrishHeart replied to IrishHeart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
me, neither....does anyone know about this guy?? -
I just drink lots of water to flush and hydrate, eat plainly, take extra probiotics and rest and ride it out. Some people take warm baths. It passes. Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet that I know of. Bummer, I know.

Skylark pretty much answered you fully about why it may be happening, but I'd like to add that I suffered this horrible skin pain, burning sensations and joint/bone and muscle pain and parasthesia for 3 + years before DX. It is awful and so, I commisserate. It is only in the last few months (of being gluten free for 11.5 )that it has started to subside....

For binding agents in meatballs and meatloaf, I use the one egg and the same amount of breadcrumbs I have used in my recipes for 25 years, only they are made from gluten-free bread that I grind up in my small grinder and season them. Still holds together just fine and I use a meatloaf pan because I like to let it sit after it has cooked and absorb the...

ARCHIVED Two Docs With Differing Opinions
IrishHeart replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds as if he does not like being contradicted by NEW doc. Weren't you improving and finding relief from being gluten-free? What do you think explains this improvement??? What did he make of that??? How are you lab tests now? Not sure what the dilemma is here, hon!! New doc, new diet = you feel better. -
ARCHIVED Is Maltodextrin Safe?
IrishHeart replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Who told you maltodextrin was not safe? Maybe you can inform them that it is safe. Actually, we have an excellent guide for newcomers, in the "Frequently Asked Questions" Section. There is a list of safe and unsafe products there. https://www.celiac.com/celiac-faq/ -
ARCHIVED Depression/anxiety/brain Fog
IrishHeart replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have read about this TriEnza. He suggests it can be used so "your children on a gluten-free/DF diet can have gluten and be like everyone else". ??? Meaning, sure go ahead and eat gluten-filled products, but take this pill with it and it will counter-act the gluten destruction? hmm... Not sure exactly how it can "digest gluten", but they have put... -

ARCHIVED Hors D'oeuvres Ideas For Christmas Eve
IrishHeart replied to wildwood's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This guy has created gluten-free phyllo dough to make baklava! I am part Armenian and the thought of losing baklava and phyllo dough made me cry for a few days. It is very labor intensive, but he makes it look so easy. No, I have not tried it--my back wouldn't permit this much work--but someday, I'm going to... He uses Jules' flour. Take... -
I was CCed last week and it took me almost 9 days to totally rebound. I get the whole fun package of symptoms: gastro (nausea, burning, abdominal pain, C then D ) neurological (anxiety, insomnia, depressive thoughts, agitation, "gluten-head" ) extra super-duper ramped up bone/joint/muscle pain and BURNING nerve pain ---oh, and an intense desire to...

I went to Dr. William Gusten at Saratoga-Schenectady Gastro, as suggested by scm. He is the best! I have sent 3 more people to him. Give his office a call. The Burnt Hills office will have the first opening. Trust me, he's compassionate, caring and thorough. Let me know what happens!

ARCHIVED Disappointing Doctors Visit
IrishHeart replied to Booghead's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm very sorry you had such a bad experience with so many endos. That's terrible. Hopefully, you found a doctor who helped you. My own experiences with doctors makes me leery of them too, believe me. But, in fairness, your statement that they "are better at treating diabetes than thyroid problems" and are "close-minded individuals" is a generalized... -

Amitryptilline is also often prescribed for other symptoms besides depression--usually pain. It was given it to me for chronic joint/neck and lumbar spine pain so severe I could not sleep or sit at all. 10 mgs. is the lowest dose, I think. Some docs have you gradually add more in 10 mgs. increments to see what works best for you. This med will...

A friend sent this to me...thought you guys would enjoy it. As we approach the end of the year 2011, I want to thank all of you for your educational e-mails over the past year. I am totally screwed up now and have little chance of recovery. I no longer open a bathroom door without using a paper towel, or have the waitress put lemon slices in...

ARCHIVED What Does The Average Celiac Look Like
IrishHeart replied to cbonner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Me too, kiddo--but you and I have discussed this many times, haven't we hon? Lumbar pillows, neck pillows, back brace, heat/cold packs, PT and MT...I work constantly to regain my muscles and stop the chronic, debilitating burning pain in my joints, bones, muscles and nerves. Not being able to sit, stand, walk or lie down without searing pain---that is just...
