    ARCHIVED Why, Oh Why?

I finally found a GI doctor (fresh out of med school) who uttered the words after reviewing my lengthy ordeal with me "Dammit, we need to look at the whole patient and her health history, not just parts and isolated symptoms." (He was appalled at what I went through and how many "specialty" doctors I saw for years trying to figure out what the hell went wrong...
  2. oh, it sure is! It's a roller coaster ride. Millet is tough to digest. For me anyway. Could be just a glitch. Try it again later?
  3. A friend sent me this--it's pretty adorable...have a laugh on this cold winter day. Open Original Shared Link
  4. I take it first thing in the AM with 16 oz. of water. You could take it at bedtime if you prefer. According to the majority of articles I read: Take it before eating breakfast with a glass of pure water Wait 10-15 minutes after taking it before you eat because stomach acid from your meal could impact some of the 'good' bacteria (you could...
  5. Take a list of your symptoms and the report from the allergy doctor with you. Tell him what you have been doing and how you feel better some days than others. Ask him for an antihistamine and tell him about your gut burning. Don't leave until you get some answers and a referral to a GI doctor. I am just suggesting here--but you need help, Coll!...
  6. Mostly as a verb.....as in..... "It _____s me up." Like my pal, EATMEAT4GOOD, I often give the Celiac spiel and when I get to the part about the autoimmune response and someone's eyes start glazing over like a Christmas ham, I head for the punch line.
  7. I'm in that club! A serio-negative celiac. Dr. Gusten is different. Very good doc--open minded and compassionate. Keep me posted!
  8. I confess I have used this expression --except it had the F-bomb in it as the verb. I know, nice potty mouth, IH.
  9. My day started at 1 degree but now, it's "sneeting" (snow / sleet) and the sky is battleship gray and it's about 37. Wood stove is pumping. This is NOT a normal winter in the Great Northeast--no snow! But no one is complaining except the ski resort owners.
  10. Do not be surprised if you get a giant from your doctor when you ask. Keep us posted!
  11. Unfortunately, this is a lot of detective work. I have some issues myself lately and I keep figuring things out. Who knew that bean flours would make me feel yucky? Not me...sigh. Yes, you may be right---just take out the grains for now (because that cereal is a mix of many)--- and stick to plain foods.
  12. WTH??? With all due respect, how is a healthy balanced diet going to lead to malnutrition???? That makes no sense. What " diet" for teens? Does he mean pizza and junk food? So if that is removed, by removing gluten, how is that BAD??? I am confused. If your child feels better off gluten, how is that a bad thing? I do not understand this thinking...
  13. Hi A!! (IH is waving at you!) I suspect they will tell us "time and healing" and better absorption of nutrients/vitamins-- but let's see if there is any other magic we are missing. I have covered all my bases (testing wise and vit def. wise) and so I know it's nothing else.
  14. Since pregnancy often triggers celiac in those predisposed to it, this is not surprising to any of US on here. Can't speak for the doctors. Many of them still consider this a "rare childhood disease".
  15. It is disconcerting to wake up like that. I feel for you as I had the same thing going on in me for nearly 3 years before DX. It took many months for that to calm down in me. I used to wake up screaming, my heart pounding out of my chest, my thoughts racing. I had major insomnia anyway. Not the best way to start a day, is it?? My poor hubs--woke him up...
  16. I am so happy for you! and you too, Diane! I am slowly getting some hair to grow back in. I suffered major hair loss and it was very upsetting for me. (my hair was never thick anyway, but this shedding became ridiculous--I was going bald.) It is always good to hear when a fellow celiac tells me "it comes back!", so thank you so much for posting...
  17. What's IN the mix? Check the label. Could be an ingredient is not agreeing with you. (do not assume CC okay?) I use BRM products all the time without a problem, BUT I recently discovered that I feel yucky, get a stomach ache and have allergic responses when we use any BEAN flours in our baking. Hubs tried Garganzo bean flour in our bread recently...
  18. I had some serious burning and itching of the scalp, it was bright red and I had small blisters on my scalp and hairline before my DX. It was pretty DRY up there--- and my scalp peeled, rather than flaked. I suffered major hair loss. No matter what shampoo I used, it did not help. I tried ones that are formulated as "anti-itch"...but some actually...
  19. I am a serio-negative Celiac. I do not have a "see, I told you so!" lab result either I only have the last year of slow recovery as evidence of reversing the damage done to my body and brain. And a New GI doc who says he never saw celiac manifest in anyone the way it did in me (with dozens of horrible symptoms) and he monitors me closely. Had I...
  20. They look like the "real deal"!
  21. This is something we can all relate to--bringing our own food places. But it is good you are going out and seeing people and not isolating yourself. Try to relax and have fun!
  22. That one's forgivable as he may not have realized about the malt. Plus, some people do not associate gluten with liquids. Did you tell him to stock you some Bard's???
  23. I admit it, I like the prunes, too...
  24. I say it is like poison. Is a little bit of poison okay? Nope! I also have been known to call it my kryptonite. And sugergirl can't fly when krytonite is around. Hon, your Dad does not "get it" because he just does not know WHY a small amount of gluten does damage. Many people think this way about gluten--they think it has to be a large amount...
  25. Well, that little bit of soy could do all that to you then. Yes, I found that soy--like gluten--is IN almost everything, even teas. We do have to be really, REALLY careful with label reading. Stevia should not bother you (but when it comes to you, Coll, I do not know if I should say that! ) You have a lot going on. Sorry you got hit...
