ARCHIVED My Daughter Made Me A Gluten Free Cake
catsmeow replied to catsmeow's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you, it was delicious! And my DD is so sweet and very talented. I was looking at the pictures again and thought that this cake really does look professional, and to fancy for $80 at a gluten-free bakery. I think your right, it would cost more. I don't know where this kid gets it. She was already talented with baking wheat stuff, then after I was... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Made Me A Gluten Free Cake
catsmeow posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My 13 year old daughter made me this 3 layer lemon cake with vanilla lemon zest frosting. It is as delicious as it it beautiful! She made it from scratch and she is only 13 years old!!! She used the artisan flour mix that we put together and keep on hand (from the artisan gluten free cookbook), she loosly followed the yellow cake recipe, but winged it... -
ARCHIVED Just Thought I Would Update About My Trip To The Usa
catsmeow replied to Dellers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know nothing about the gene testing...sorry. I'm so glad you had a good time in the USA with only one gluten incident! I have not eaten at Outback steakhouse since I was diagnosed. I might have to try them sometime since you liked it so much. What were these outstanding cookies you spoke of??? Inquiring minds want to know and buy/try them. ... -
ARCHIVED A Source Of Gluten We Didn't Think About
catsmeow replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am impressed! What a fantastic doctor!!! I was telling my doctor about how I react badly in the bread isle in the grocery store (which is where the gluten-free section is...the idiots) and as I am talking, my doc starts having a severe allergic reaction to me!! My mind was racing, trying to figure out what he was allergic to. I could totally tell he... -

ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
catsmeow replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can certainly relate to the dull ache and thinking you need a position change. Please keep us updated, right here on your thread, I'll do the same. I hope you get a surgery date soon. I had an attack that lasted 4 hours today. It was by far my worst attack. I almost went to ER for emergency surgery, but then the pain finally stopped. I wonder how... -
ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
catsmeow replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm so sorry to hear about your lay-off. It's happening in our district too. Huge budget cuts. Things are sure getting rough. I'm having my Gallbladder out next week. For about 3-4 weeks I've been having horrible stomach cramps, gas, diahrrea, and general feelings of ill health, plus a 3 week headache. I thought I had developed another food allergy... -
ARCHIVED Weight Gain On gluten-free Diet
catsmeow replied to Almendra's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been mulling this very subject over for some time now. Thank you for posting this. I believe it is emotional eating, and we eat more because we feel deprived, so we pig out on the foods we find that we can actually eat. This thinking is not healthy. Think about when we ate wheat. We didn't think that we had to eat an entire package of cookies, just... -
ARCHIVED BBQ Sauce Brands
catsmeow replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll bet your right, HFCS is something I avoid. Maybe that is what I react to. I eat mostly organic, and not a lot of processed foods. -
ARCHIVED BBQ Sauce Brands
catsmeow replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Austin's own, and it says Gluten free on the bootle. Of course, I live in Texas, so it may be a local item (they do sell it online, from their website). I use to buy the expensive gluten free BBQ sauce from Whole foods, of course, it's $5 for a tiny bottle, I get more bang for my buck with Austins own. I can't find where it says "gluten free" on... -

I know lots of people say that Sweet Baby Rays is safe for them.....but I just wanted to mention that I get sick from it. It's happened more than once. I've gotten my usual glutened reaction. I'm not sure what ingredient in it is getting me, but it gets me good, in a bad way! And no, it was not any other food I had. I can isolate it as the cuprit each... -
ARCHIVED Have You Heard About This Chef?
catsmeow replied to sydneysmommy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Here's another article about it. It says he lied about being a chef. It says he wasjust a part time waiter. This article also reads that several people have filed formal complaints with The Colorado Attorney General's office. It makes me so happy that I can stand with such a powerful group of people (Celiacs), even though I have a wheat allergy, our interests... -

catsmeow replied to catsmeow's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think our wheat allergies and Celiacs force us to eat healthier diets than the average person. Thanks to all who posted. I love reading the replies. -
I know....it's nuts!!! If I didn't have a wheat allergy. I would be buried up to my earlobes in Krispy Kream donuts right now!!! If you google "gluten free fad" you will see a bunch of news stories about it. It scares me......yet, that's why we have so many new great gluten-free products! That, I like!

ARCHIVED Wheat Allergy And Grain Alcohol
catsmeow replied to creesal's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have a wheat allergy too! Welcome to the board. It's nice to see another wheat allergy here, even though i suspect many of the Celiacs to have a wheat allergy/Celiac combo, like Muffy. She described many of my wheat allergy reactions when she talked about the whisky. It's all so confusing, isn't it? What Muffy said, made a lot of sense to me and... -

I cannot stop laughing!!!! Even you guys who do not have cat avatars are cat lovers! Yes, count me in. My cats rule the roost too. They are loyalty and know it! My husband is in the background laughing and saying that Cat's cause celiacs and wheat allergies.....he's joking of course. I say wheat allergies and celiacs cause a deeper love for...

I think there may be a connection to cats as well. Have you noticed all the cat lovers on this forum? There are so may cat avatars!! P.S. I'm an Air Force Veteran, and now a stay at home mom. Before being diagnosed, I was sick in bed all the time, thus making me a stay in bed mom! I'm glad that has changed.

ARCHIVED Laundry Detergent And Household Cleaners?
catsmeow replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
HHHMMM.....I was thinking, maybe the smell he doesn't like comes from the ivory soap. I've used pure Ivory everytime I made it instead of Zote or Fels Napa. Maybe I can try harder to find the stuff....I mean, for crying out loud, I live on the outskirts of San Antonio! Someone has to carry it at a good price! Yes, I am going to do it again, with a... -
ARCHIVED Backpacker's Pantry Ok?
catsmeow replied to Asharia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great question! I need stuff like this too, as we go on hunting trips. This season will be the first year I go as a wheat allergy person. I'm still digging around the internet for anawers to the Backpacker's pantry, nothing good yet. I did find this though. Here's a link to a forum where they are discussing gluten-free MRE's (meals ready to eat)...
