  1. There is a chance your daughter could be sensitive to soy. There are quite a few here who cannot do soy products. Have you considered rice milk, almond milk, or perhaps coconut milk? Just a thought... Ahhh, interesting about your husband's thinking in regards to the allergies. In a way he is right, Americans claim to be allergic to things when in...
  2. I wouldn't think the celiac biopsy would need to be repeated, especially since the antibody levels have come down.
  3. Yep, I agree. What you are feeling makes perfect sense. It is not irrational. The unsettled employment is actually quite a trauma to the psyche, and is one of the heavy hitters on the Open Original Shared Link. We went through several years of employment ups and downs, dismissals, a year of unemployment, long stretches of finding temporary work through...
  4. My first question is, what country do you live in? Open Original Shared Link have a legal drinking age of 21 though some allow with parental consent (I include this for anyone reading who may not have knowledge of the laws). If not in the USA, then the answer is, only some alcohol is off-limits to celiacs. Mostly beer, because most beer is brewed with...
  5. I sometimes have the same problem! It is really scary to be sitting and thinking about all the things that can go wrong. Has your husband been in his job long? Has he has more than one recent period of unemployment? Those things can make one quite a bit more anxious. We've been through a lot of employment uncertainty during recent years, and it can really...
  6. Yes, it is fair to pursue the possibilities of celiac. With the family history that you shared, it is quite reasonable to think "celiac". Please do not let them "sort of maybe think about doing biopsy". Make sure they DO it, and take plenty of samples (minimum of 6, more is better). Make sure your daughter continues to eat gluten while awaiting testing...
  7. Stephanie, I apologize if the way I wrote came across as harsh. I certainly did not mean to come across that way. I have no criticism whatsoever for those of you who are doing a she-bear's job of getting your kids through what the world throws at them. As you said, the Internet is unforgiving when it comes to "tone" and doesn't always reflect the sentiment...
  8. The combination of tests says more than any of the tests by themselves. With the Tissue transglutaminase antibodies (your body attacking itself), AND the anti-gliadin antibodies (your body attacking gliadin, the specific amino acid chain that causes the most damage in celiac), AND the Marsh 3 score on your biopsy, you are certainly celiac. Celiac and...
  9. I am not speaking to ALL schools, maybe it's not the case in yourarea, but there are a heck of a lot of schools that have been declared nut-free, I read about them all the time. All I am saying is, if they can manage that, they can manage to protect kids from gluten. And SHOULD. For example, another poster whose child was told they would fail if they did...
  10. Did you grill the hot dogs on a barbecue? Is it a dedicated grill to gluten free foods? If not, it could be the grill. There is a doctor show on the radio by a gastroenterologist, and he talks often about celiac. On his 4th of July special, he talked a lot about barbecuing and how much gluten residue can be left on a grill by other foods, and how hard...
  11. Nope, docs are taught that TSH is everything when it comes to thyroid treatment. Far too few are able to think "outside the box", far too few treat symptoms, instead they treat to lab numbers. TSH isn't a thyroid hormone. It's a pituitary hormone. It is "Thyroid Stimulating Hormone" produced by your pituitary when there is insufficient thyroid hormone...
  12. The schools are turning themselves inside out to protect children from nut allergies. They should be willing to work with gluten intolerant children as well. I think a failure of this kind would be an actionable offense under the Americans With Disabilities Act, if the school is in the United States. If my child were in a place where they were unsafe...
  13. Okay, I realize you are already overwhelmed and this is all so new you might not have the energy to go searching for all these places...so here are a few more links for you... Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link (this was created for people with Crohn's Disease...you can jump into the full diet without going through all the beginner...
  14. I am sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed, but I can see quite a few of the great forum members have already passed on some worthy advice. I do have an exception, and that is rice. My brother is diabetic (Type 2) and has found that rice really spikes his blood sugar badly. I concur with those who suggested just eating whole foods (meats, vegetables...
  15. I am so glad to see this thread! Thanks for starting it, and thanks to those who posted links to the puff pastry recipes. I never thought I'd enjoy the light, flaky goodness of puff pastry ever again! I have hope! And, I think those pastry intestines look really fun! Something we might add to our repertoire this year. My oldest daughter is deeply...
  16. Many doctors confuse the natural thyroid meds like Erfa/Armour/Naturethroid with the glandulars available as nutritional supplements. For some reason they think that you don't get even dosages of hormone from the naturals. That is incorrect. The naturals are as well-controlled as the synthetics. That said, many people can get their thyroid levels...
  17. While your doc is great in that she will consider you gluten sensitive, she is wrong about the antibodies. If you have been gluten free for four months, you are very likely to test negative. And if you were to have a biopsy you would also likely turn up negative. If you don't have a compelling reason for an "official" diagnosis, there is nothing wrong...
  18. Hi tommysmommy... So glad things have turned out well for your child! Just wanted to make a friendly suggestion, you might want to edit your email address out of this post and send a private message to the OP instead. There are harvesters scouring the internet (especially forums like this one) for addresses and you may find yourself starting to get...
  19. WOW! That is incredible news! Way to go! As Bubba's Mom said, I hope that your diligence and success nowwill protect her from thyroid issues for the rest of her life! If I had known when my thyroid problems first started that gluten is a common trigger, I'd have been gluten free decades ago!
  20. I also want to second what the other posters said. It would be a really good idea to get copies of your daughter's blood test results, and see for yourself what was tested and what the actual levels were. If only a TtG was elevated, it could point to something other than celiac. Other autoimmune conditions can cause the elevation. On the other hand...
  21. Hi, Gwen! Welcome! I hope you're finding your way around okay, this is a wonderful place for learning AND making friends!
  22. Mmmm, I love tater tot casserole! We don't use canned soup any more, we make a quick cream sauce with chicken broth and rice flour. We also use chicken instead of ground beef, lots of green onions, some canned green chiles and pepper jack cheese. Our recipe takes cream cheese and some thyme, so it's a little different then this one, but you...
  23. Not sure I can accept this. I breast-fed all of my children for 9 months to a year, no solids until their sixth months. I have one celiac for sure, another gluten intolerant. I'm greatly in favor of breastfeeding, but have to question this one.
  24. It just means your body isn't making that particular antibody. It doesn't change that the positives are POSITIVE. There are many classes and kinds of antibodies, you don't need all of them to have a positive diagnosis.
  25. With your positive EMA and positive DGP, the likelihood of celiac is hovering around 100%. Not to mention your lifelong "eczema". Can you describe what your skin outbreaks look like? Perhaps you don't really have eczema, you could very well have a condition called Dermatitis Herpetiformis. That is usually diagnosed with biopsy, but you can go to the...
