  1. @Marilyn did you grow to 6 ft after you were put on BC (whats BC anyway?) or were you 6ft already & didn't grow anymore? @ Julie Yeah, the endocrinologist told me that a girl has two years left to grow once her cycle begins. Regarding boys pediatrician told me it depends on what stage of puberty they are in. Late bloomers can continue to grow...
  2. For xmas DD got a gift from Mother Nature her 1st period! She is almost 14 so the timing is normal however she is barely 4'10. I was hoping she wouldn't get it yet so she could grow some more. She's been gluten-free since jun. Anyway I've heard that a girl's window of growth will close 2 yrs after her first cycle & on avg will not grow more than...
  3. I'm the p/t teacher but its a peculiar situation. I am responsible for instruction but everything else is delegated to the aides by their supervisor. So I can't tell them anything that's not related to instruction. Luckily we don't have food stealing in this class with the exception of a sneaky 17 yo girl but we watch her like a hawk. That...
  4. I work at an after school/summer camp program for disabled kids. I have a few autistic kids in my class & 1 boy (age 10 non-verbal) has just gone gluten-free. (he was gluten-free in the past but went back to gluten--not sure of the reasons) In any event I was told he's back to gluten-free & he has been bringing nice home cooked meals & fruits...
  5. How old are you? Perimenopause can begin in the 30's.
  6. My DD misses Auntie's Anne's pretzels and gold fish crackers.
  7. My 17 yo who had no symptoms at all would get a head cold about every 6 wks. Since he went gluten-free in Jun he's only had 1 cold. Amazing!
  8. the biopsy is optional I hope you know. The Drs always make it seem like its mandatory. I did not get my kids (17 & 13) biopsied & just went gluten-free. Be mindful that up to 30% of biopsies will be a false negative. Do you need an official dx for school/camp purposes? Its a difficult decision & I struggled with it, but in the end I said...
  9. Go with deer antlers & raw meaty bones .(frozen for additional chewing time) Natural is best & they last long. Do the kongs too for variety. Knotted rope is like floss for dogs so those are good too.
  10. Anthony, after my DD tested positive I had my 16 yo son tested too and voila! he has antibodies as well & so he is gluten-free too. Both DD & DS went gluten-free in jun 11. But he had already reached the puberty milestones, His voice chged around 14 1/2 & he had a growth spurt & he started shaving chin hairs when he was 15 & now @...
  11. I had a similar experience but I used Pamela's flour which called for ! 1/2 cups. The fix was to add more flour just under 2 cups. They turned out great with the extra flour. It also helps if the dough chilled for 1/2 hour & placed down like a ball & flattened slightly. Give it a try.
  12. since she is so picky I suggest t he 1st thing you do is make of list of what she does eat. Then search the threads here for a similar gluten-free substitute. If you can't find what you are looking for just ask & I'm sure you will pointed to some choices. Then slowly introduce her to new foods. I had (still have) 2 picky eaters age 13/17 but it...
  13. When his growth spurt kicks in I am pretty sure he will sleep more than 9 hrs a day. He will need it.
  14. well typically the feet grow really fast b4 a growth spurt. I've observed this occurring in many children. Most likely his body will grow soon to match those size 11's. Btw, does he sleep alot? Growing occurs during sleep. DD was sleeping 13/14 hrs a dy during this summer's growth spurt. Since its been two yrs I would have his VIt D other levels...
  15. Has his Vit D & iron levels been chkd? Oftentimes these will be low especially vit D. Also, has he had a bone age scan? That will let you know how much potential growth he has left. Also has his thyroid been chk? As stated above give him good multivitamins & make sure they are gluten-free. Gluten is hidden in so many things its unbelievable...
  16. I agree low Vit D or maybe iron. Take some VIt D & a slow release iron tabs & when you get to the Dr. have those levels chkd.
  17. your poor DD ! sounds like it cld be celiac or gluten intolerance. If I were you I would start her on a gluten-free diet immediately to see if you get any improvement. My DD is 13 & last Dec @ her annual physical her growth dropped off the charts. She had been at the 10-25th pctile all her life. She didn't have any symptoms except the stunted growth...
  18. I'm sure you will find Publix & Whole Foods around. Just go to their websites & type in the zip code where you will be staying & the nearest locations will pop up . For items that you think will be hard to find just bring those with you. HAVE FUN!
  19. Amazing article! Never heard anything like it before! Interesting topic for the dinner table
  20. Thx Di! underpaid is an understatement as I'm sure you must know I think it was fate that I got into special ed. I would have never known all the things I had to know having a child with autism. I graduated in may of 94 & he was born that July.
  21. Even if he isn't autistic he should still receive therapy--speech, physical & occupational to help him advance. Heidi, If I were you I'd have DS tested for autism as well. Speech & developmental delays can be indicators. My 17 yo DS has a very mild case of autism. He was born prematurely & started getting the 3 therapies @ age 2. He is now...
  22. I have a senior as well and I agree with hubby. I would not be comfortable with the vagueness either. If the flight is already booked. then the info on the return flight should be made available . It's not like they booked an open ticket! If it isn't even your church why is there even an issue? Its all too wishy washy and I wouldn't trust my child's...
  23. make sure his vitamins are gluten-free too. flinstones are not gluten-free .
  24. I always tell my DD being small has never stopped anybody from achieving their goals. Her pediatrician is barely 5ft and is very successful, many famous ppl are short, some bad (benedict arnold) some good. Physical stature is not a deterant to who/what you wanna be. Children are amazing & your DD will grow She is still a baby & has plenty of...
