  1. Love2travel said: "Finer restaurants notify their staff as well but whenever we eat out (which is rare) we are assertive but quiet about it." I can understand why you eat out only rarely. With the way you cook, I bet your family says, "Aw, do we HAVE to eat out?"
  2. See, you learn something every day. I did NOT know they could grow X-gum on anything other than corn. Although it seems that corn doesn't bother me anymore, I'd still like to avoid it whenever possible. I'll go back to the site and check prices. Maybe I'll try some. Thanks once again, IH, and Alex, I apologize for the bad info.
  3. Two things: Dominoes pizzas are pretty bad, even on their regular crust. And more importantly, their pizzas are made using the same pans, ovens, knives, etc. as their regular pizza and so they are cross contaminated and NOT gluten free.
  4. Alex, your post got me so excited I went there right away. The bread and pizza mixes have xanthan gum. For someone sensitive to corn, xanthan gum is no good because it is grown on corn and many of us are sensitive to it. I think their claim that there is absolutely no corn is a bit misleading.
  5. Bison is a good choice. I have never heard of bison being injected with anything, either the meat or the animals. Yes, it is expensive, but it is worth it to me. When I get grass fed beef, I get it from a local rancher so I know it is safe. That is ONE advantage to living where I do - the produce in the stores is pitiful, but the meat is really really good...
  6. Thanks IH! I wish YOUR pain could magically go away too! I know how much you have and still are suffering. Yet you are here and cheerful every day. You have helped me and so many others, so much. Big (((((HUGS))))) to you!!
  7. I am one who wishes I could have gotten tested. My digestive reactions are mild compared to most. My most certain symptom is psoriasis. I have no idea if I am gluten intolerant or if I am doing damage when I get CC'd. If I knew for certain it would eliminate the worry, and even though the psoriasis is painful and the insomnia and brainfog are a pain in the...
  8. Xanthan gum is actually a mold that is grown on corn. It is used to make gluten-free flours sticky enough to hold together when baked.
  9. That's why it blows my mind. The pharmacist here in town knows I am intolerant to corn and that's why he warned me that the filler used in this med is corn starch. He questioned that the doc would prescribe it for me. When I explained, he understood, but he felt bad knowing that I was going to be sick from it. I am definitely going to take it slowly...
  10. Do you have a George Foreman grill? I'm thinking that might be better than the electric skillet. Easier clean up and no spatters. Just to make sure you don't get in trouble with the folks at the motel, you can bag it and leave it in your car when not in use.
  11. And isn't molasses a very high sals food?
  12. I'm better. Thank you all so much for the caring and concern! Check out the new thread I started this morning, "Wowie Zowie". It seems that there really IS a silver lining to every cloud!
  13. I agree that meals are expensive, and that you should tell the bride you have food allergies and cannot eat the meal provided. Tell her you would RATHER bring your own, that you are used to it, and that the meal is not the reason you will be attending anyway. You are attending to share the day with the happy couple, and that's what matters.
  14. Oh my sweet friend, I am so sorry! We have shared a lot over the past year because we have this same corn problem, and having gotten to know you a little bit, I ache for you. Now I feel guilty for crowing about the corn meds I've been taking causing no reaction. Maybe if you stay on a totally grain free diet, or even go paleo for a while, you will heal...
  15. I heard on the radio this morning that 75% of the foods in grocery stores have some form of corn in them. If you consider that most fresh produce does not, that means almost 100% of processed foods do. I will NOT start eating all that processed junk again, but it'll be nice to be able to buy those baby carrots that are washed in the corn-filled citrus...
  16. OK, so most of you know that I have an absessed tooth and had to start on a corn-filled antibiotic because the compounding pharmacy couldn't make the corn free stuff right away. I have been super sensitive to corn almost from the start. Well, I finally got the good stuff last night. Before I got it though, I took five doses (ten capsules) of the ones...
  17. Kswan, What they said. I have sent you an email through this site. As a brand new member you can't get PMs yet, but please check your email. Because your computer doesn't recognize me it may go into your junk file so maybe if you don't see it on your regular email, you can find it in mixed in with the other "junk".
  18. Thanks everyone. I took the corn filled meds and went home. I HATE closing the shop early, especially during tourist season, but I was wiped out and needed to go lie down. The weird thing is, the pain has subsided, but the swelling has gotten worse. This morning my eye is closed, my nose looks like a boxer's, and I don't have any lips on that side of my face...
  19. Maria just went to pick up my corn prescription. In a few minutes I can take them and although I will be sick, I don't care. The pain is getting intense and the swelling is increasing. My doctor runs a free clinic here in town once a month. The sliding scale place is 60 miles away and they SAY the dentist is a brute. Not only does he not use novocaine...
  20. Karen, my doctor is also 60 miles away and I was hoping not to have to go to the ER which will cost WAY more than I can afford.
  21. Yolo, I've known for a while now that I have a bad tooth, but with no insurance, I have been putting off going. My dentist does not have a payment plan.
  22. I know. EVERYTHING has corn in it, and corn is a worse problem for me than glute.
  23. I think it's the beans. Try adding more sugar next time. It might help to mask the flavor.
  24. What they prescribed (and they ALWAYS prescribe this when it is teeth) is clindamycin. That's the one that can give you D and can sometimes cause C-diff. I won't be able to tell if the D is from the drug or from the corn. I called to see if they could prescribe a day's worth of the corn stuff and they won't be back in the office until an hour from now...
  25. Dang! I tried to edit so that it said ADVICE, not ADVISE. But it would only let me edit the body, not the title. Oh well, you get the idea, and I AM in pain, so I'll use that as an excuse for the mis-spelling.
