  1. Talking about the bacon sundaes the other day got me to thinking about other unusual food combinations. The one that comes to mind for me is - salt on bananas. My grandfather taught me this when I was just a tiny little kid. They taste SO much better with salt! I thought I was the only one who did this, but one day when I was working in a restaurant I...
  2. It's the corn.
  3. I miss my late husband more than words can express. My husband was loving and supportive and if he were still alive I know he would do everything in his power to help me with my celiac. The more I read here, the more I realize how lucky I am - first, that I got to spend much of my life with that wonderful man, and second, that I am blissfully single. No...
  4. Can you just bring the PB and buy a loaf of regular bread to keep at work? Then you could make your sandwich at work, keep your blood sugar stable, and just wash your hands really well before you go home.
  5. Sometimes I wish we could all be put into an induced coma until the withdrawal passes. (It would work for smoking too.) Hang in there and when you need to vent, this is the place.
  6. I think most people would agree that bacon is one of the greatest inventions of all time. But an even greater "invention" is good health that will allow us to enjoy all of the other "great inventions" - like sunsets and music and family and friends. Hiking in the woods, fishing, sports, theater, beaches, concerts, trips to far-off places, and trips close...
  7. Several years ago I had steak cooked on the grill. We were having home-made hot fudge sundaes for dessert. There was a bit of steak left on my plate and I dipped it into the hot fudge. It was GGGGOOOOOODDDD!!!! I wish I could eat bacon (corn, dontchaknow) because I would be all over this.
  8. Reminds me of when I was a kid. I had heard the term "rock garden" and thought if I planted some pebbles they would grow into rocks. So I did, and my sister went out later and replaced these pebbles with bigger rocks. The next day I was so excited! "Mom! My rocks grew!!" Mom was in on the deception and told me to go water them some more. The next day they...
  9. IH, I am not even in the least bit interested in lemon bars, but when I saw that YOU were the one who started this thread I had to read it. I KNEW I'd get a good laugh out of it and I was right. Now, tell us more about being adept at backseat maneuvers...um, on secong thought, never mind.
  10. I have more problems with corn than I do with gluten. As a matter of fact, I found out the vitamins I've been taking for several months now actually contain gluten, and I have had no reaction to them at all. But if I have anything with corn or xanthan gum I get terrible reactions within hours. I'm thinking that maybe (MAYBE) I sabotaged myself. When I...

    ARCHIVED Hair!

IH, Skylark, Mushroom, do you think I should do a gluten challenge? I'm shocked! I've been eating these vitamins for months now and all they have done is make me feel better. I've been eating 50 milligrams of gluten every day! I know that corn gives me psoriasis. Nightshades do too, as well as asperin. It would be strange if all of my intolerances gave me...

    ARCHIVED Hair!

Um, you know, another celiac friend got these for me and assured me she takes them all the time. She has been SO helpful with my diet, I automatically trusted what she said. I never even NOTICED those things you pointed out! Now not only am I embarrassed, but I'm confused. I have been taking these with no problem whatsoever. Now that raises a question...

    ARCHIVED Hair!

Yep. I learned about biotin here. I wasn't on the sub-linguals long enough to see any difference so it MAY be something else in these vitamins I'm taking now, but I ASSUME it's the biotin that is helping with the hair.
  14. You have DH, don't you? If I am correct, that is the only reason I would even consider going on prednisone. I understand the itching can drive one crazy, and in that case it might be worth it. But my doctor and his nutritionist told me that MY immune system was in hyperdrive too. I was reacting to everything, not just grains. I couldn't eat ANY fruit except...

    ARCHIVED Hair!

You're welcome, IH. After all the help you have given me and so many others here, it's the least I can do. I hope they work for you.

    ARCHIVED Hair!

The vitamins I am taking are (cough cough) Dr. Mercola Multivitamin Plus. I know Dr. Mercola is on the quackwatch site, but it is for making unsubstantiated claims, not because there is anything wrong with his products. And I KNOW they work. Remember the meltdown I had a few months ago? I cried for three days in a row, from the moments BEFORE I woke up until...

    ARCHIVED Hair!

Mom's hair was very thin and fine. Dad's hair was mostly missing. I thought I was doomed to have really thin hair too, but it's been getting ridiculous. For the past ten or fifteen years it has been falling out by the handful and I have actual bald spots. I've been gluten-free for a little over a year now. I started taking sub-lingual B12 and biotin...
  18. I am self-diagnosed. Sometimes I wish I had an official diagnosis simply so I could find out if I am truly healing. I noticed a big improvement after going gluten-free, but then developed other intolerances. For a while there it seemed EVERYTHING was giving me trouble. It would be nice to know whether these other symptom causing foods were damaging my gut...
  19. I never got them UNTIL I went gluten-free. Now I seem to get them every few days, even though my very limited diet includes no gluten nor any chance of CC.
  20. "Flunking" the glucose tolerance test means diabetes. Did your doctor talk to you about that? The rest of your symptoms sure sound like Celiac to me. Even the "diabetes" can be part of Celiac symptoms. Ask him to test you for it. I'm not sure which tests to ask for (there are several) because I am self-diagnosed based on family history, my symptoms, and...
  21. The best honey is local honey. They say if you eat honey produced by local bees, you are helping your immune system by taking in something made from the pollen that you come into contact with every day, and that if you are allergic to any of those pollens, the honey can help reduce those allergies. I've always had problems with honey. I don't know why...
  22. I really get a lift from a banana in the morning. (I never really liked bananas all that much, but I really enjoy them now.)
  23. He didn't LOSE! He was nominated for the biggest award in his field. Just because he didn't get the award, being nominated makes him a winner in my book. Besides, he's married to you - and THAT makes him a winner!
  24. Could be either. If it is true Celiac, you might still be having trouble because you're not healed yet. It could also be another intolerance. (Dairy, soy, corn, nightshades, you name it.) The best thing would be to go back to whole foods only, keep a food diary, then slowly add things back. You can also take pro-biotics and/or digestive enzymes. But...
  25. All you need to do is sneeze or cough and you are going to take a breath with your mouth open. If there is a little bit of this grass dust in the air, you just sucked some of it into your mouth. I never thought of it, but I can definitely see where it might be a problem. I'm never home when my friend comes and mows my lawn for me. Now I'm glad.
