ARCHIVED Apple Cider Flavored Vinegar
bartfull replied to 123glldd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Am I missing something? I'll highlight the sentence I was referring to that I got from the Heinz site yesterday: Some Heinz -
ARCHIVED Seriously, Will It Ever Get Better?
bartfull replied to kam43's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
YES, I wound up with many many other intolerances during the first year. The one I was most sensitive to was corn and I truly believed I would never be able to eat corn again. But it seems I have gotten corn back now. What you need is time. It isn't easy to give up the foods you love, especially when it seems to make you feel worse instead of better.... -

I just went to the Heinz website and at the bottom of the page I saw this: Are Heinz -
ARCHIVED Being Celiac In America Is Unacceptable!
bartfull replied to Mennoknight's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm curious. How did you find out that the Kraft cottage cheese was gluten contaminated? -
It is normal to have ups and downs. After two or three weeks I felt fantastic, then I started sliding back downhill. Some of it was due to other intolerances rearing their ugly heads, and some of it I'm sure was due to unintentional glutenings. Have you read the newbie thread? It will point out the places gluten hides, such as scratched teflon pans, your...

ARCHIVED Sudden Adversion To A Food I Can Eat?
bartfull replied to RuskitD's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I love eggs. Always have. When I was a sick little kid, soft boiled eggs was the only thing they could get me to eat. If I were about to be executed, a bacon egg and cheese sandwich would be on the menu for my last meal. But after going gluten-free I would get nauseous every time I would eat eggs. Someone here mentioned that eggs cooked in the shell... -
ARCHIVED Discouraged And Worried
bartfull replied to kelly79mass's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kids at 11 are SO self-conscious! The comment about looking like a freak if telling. I think she is more concerned with how her classmates will see her than she is about giving up gluten. Somehow you have to get her to see herself as a normal kid who just happens to eat differently. Point out to her that she doesn't LOOK any different, that she doesn't TALK... -
ARCHIVED Friends With Psoriasis
bartfull replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought there was a "recipe" using baking soda. Just be sure you use a corn-free baking soda! -
ARCHIVED Friends With Psoriasis
bartfull replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, Razzle, I wish I could help you. I have psoriasis but it is only on my hands and feet. I use Suave shampoo which I have heard is gluten-free, but I don't know what else to tell you. Are you sure it's psoriasis and not DH? My psoriasis has totally cleared up after going gluten-free, corn-free, and low sals. And it seems that now the corn doesn't bother... -
Thanks, Bea. It never rains (especially lately!), but it sure does pour sometimes. Now my darned CAR has broken down! Money is so tight right now and I know I have to get this tooth out, but I need a car too. My friend looked at it and determined that it is the starter. On my car, you have to take the engine out to even GET to the starter so it's going...

ARCHIVED Doritos Nachos
bartfull replied to quincy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't eat Doritos, but I do know that my Blue Bunny All Natural vanilla ice cream in the half gallon is a different recipe than the pint size. The half gallon contains: milk, cream, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. In the pint size the ingredients are the same but they also put in carob bean gum. The pints TASTE the same, but the texture is different - more... -
ARCHIVED Awkward Dinner Moments
bartfull replied to beachbirdie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your husband is to be commended for trying to take care of your health. I think guys just don't understand how sensitive we women are about the perception of others. But I'd be willing to bet there are others in your class who have either celiac or other food sensitivities/allergies. I guess I have a thicker skin than most. Something like that... -
ARCHIVED Successful 1St Attempt At Baking
bartfull replied to june27's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'LL be the judge of that !! (I'f you'll be kind enough to send me a piece?) -
ARCHIVED Xanthan Gum Original Source
bartfull replied to Knoppie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Biscuits don't require gums. After you've been away from bread for a while, even biscuits make a good sandwich. They make a good dessert (shortcake), and they make a fine breakfast instead of english muffins. -
I thought of a few others: In the Celiac State there will be no dust. Our pets will not shed, and all the dishes and clothing will be self-cleaning. There will be no junk mail. Telemarketers in the Celiac State will be able to find decent jobs that don't require annoying people at dinner time. There will be no email spam, and every website will...

ARCHIVED Hot Enough For You?
bartfull replied to Darn210's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sorry. I know I promised I'd keep you informed. The Myrtle fire is now 100% contained. All of my friends who had been evacuated are back home. The Falls fire which started a few days ago six miles SOUTH of town is well under control now too. We have had thunderstorms with LOTS of rain almost every night. I'm still going to keep things packed and by... -
Another bookworm and birdwatcher here. In the Celiac State there will be libraries that are open 24 hours a day, lots of lakes and ponds full of the waterfowl to watch, wheat, corn and soy will be permanently banned, and Luv2Travel will be our official chef. The temperatures will always stay between 60 and 80 degrees, and those who love winter sports...

bartfull replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you find anything, let me know. I have been looking for a long time and have yet to find anything I can take. I need gluten-free, corn-free, soy-free, and low salcylate. -
Yes indeed, happy birthday you young'un!

ARCHIVED How Many Do Whole Foods Only?
bartfull replied to heathenly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Now that I can eat more veggies than I used to, I don't eat much rice anymore. So it's whole foods only EXCEPT for my Blue Bunny All Natural vanilla ice cream. Milk, cream, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract. I suppose I could start making my own ice cream with organic ingredients, but why bother when the Blue Bunny doesn't bother me and it tastes SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know How To Make Tomato Sauce From Scratch?
bartfull replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would LOVE to learn how to make things from scratch, but no matter how hard I look, I've never been able to find scratch at the grocery store. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Mom used to make tomato sauce from the organic tomatoes in the garden. (My Dad would put in about 350 tomato plants every year.) I didn't pay any attention because I never liked... -
Psoriasis flare within 8 to 12 hours that lasts a couple of weeks. Minor digestive issues - no real D, but loose stools three times each morning, then I'm good for the rest of the day. That lasts only a day or two. The brain fog comes in pretty quickly and fades slowly. And the insomnia starts right away and lasts for several days. Oh yeah, and the...

I have been a night person all my life. I remember when I was a little kid before I ever even started school, hearing Mom and Dad turn off the 11 o'clok news and come to bed. I've always had trouble getting to sleep at night, but in the daytime I can close my eyes and be asleep within a minute. Now that I own a business, I will never be able to...

ARCHIVED Food Prices Going Up
bartfull replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The piece I heard on the radio the other day pointed out that 75% of foods we buy in the grocery store contain some form of corn. But they also said that most of the cost of things like corn flakes are PACKAGING, so the prices on things like that won't go up TOO much. It is the cost of meat that will rise the most. Out here in the midwest, one of the things... -
You are starting with a very negative attitude. If it DOES turn out you have celiac you need to think positive. Of course it is hard at first. We all wnet through a period of mourning, but it CAN be done. There are many restaurants that have true gluten-free menus. Dominoes just thought they could make a few extra bucks by claiming they had gluten-free...
