  1. Goof, I used to have a 1968 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. I traded it away for a Gibson acoustic many years ago. I play a Guild CE100D jazzbox now. (Well, actually I have 14 guitars not counting the ones for sale, but most are acoustic.) And something just occurred to me - running a music store as I do, I have to be careful about washing my hands after...
  2. Sometimes you sneeze while you're shampooing and get a little in your mouth.Or sometimes you forget you just washed your hair and fail to rewash your hands before eating. But even if none of that happened, why in the world would you want to take a substance that makes you ill when you ingest it, and rub it into your skin?
  3. Sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat - still trying to figure it all out. I'M not even sure I HAVE symptoms from gluten yet. I know that corn, and now almonds, make my psoriasis kick up. I know corn gives me insomnia. And although I didn't have much for digestive symptoms before starting the diet, SOMETHING is now bothering me that way too. It's going...
  4. NCM, I have never been tested because I don't have insurance. From what I hear though, a lot of the tests they give are notoriously innaccurate anyway. I found out the hard way - went gluten free and started eating just whole foods - meat and vegetables and brown rice. When I ate corn I got sick. Got better, tried corn again, and got sick again. Now I am...
  5. How long have you been gluten free? And did this start AFTER you started the diet? My insomnia was unbearable before the diet. Much like yours, I would usually go to bed between nine and ten, but by midnight I was so wide awake there was no point in lying there, so I'd get up and start my day. If I was lucky, around dawn I could go take a short nap, but...
  6. For me, finally getting a good night's sleep has been the biggest blessing! After years of horrendous insomnia, going gluten and corn free has allowed me to sleep like a normal person. Overrated? Far from it!
  7. I DEFINITELY react to corn, and BADLY. I don't know yet if I'm a super-sensitive Celiac, but I know I am EXTREMELY sensitive to corn. Advil, the name-brand ibuprophen uses corn for a filler instead of wheat like the store brands do. A week or so ago, I was in so much pain I needed ibuprophen, and all it took was ONE tablet, and my psoriasis flaired immediately...
  8. AVR, I don't have this problem myself. But because my friend does, I've read a lot about it. It is the slowest to heal, and for some it never completely goes away, although it does get better. If you google it, you will find a lot of info. Or better yet, do a search on this site. There are several members who have neurological problems caused by gluten. They...
  9. Oh my. Where to start? I am learning to cook, which is saving me money as well as my health. No more junk food for this girl! I feel better, I sleep better, I have more energy. And I understand what my Mom went through! For years and years, my poor mother was plagued with health problems. Not only did her doctor think it was all in her head...
  10. I seem to have trouble with certain veggies that should not bother me. Every time I eat yams or sweet potatoes, I either get D, or they show up the next morning totally undigested. Asparagus does the same thing to me. I thought it was because after years of living on junk/fast food, my body couldn't handle the fiber. But, I eat broccoli and cauliflower...
  11. I believe the jumpy eyes are one of the symptoms of gluten ataxia. I have a friend who shows all of the symptoms of this, from difficulty walking, slurred speech, and jumpy eyes. He has been to see several doctors and has had multiple MRI's, CT scans, and neurological tests. They say they don't know WHAT it is. When I discovered what I did about the gluten...

    ARCHIVED Biotin?

LIveBetter, (Sorry about the misspelling on my last post - the I and O keys are completely worn on my computer, and I am a hunt and peck typist.) Anyway, I am going by trial and error. No insurance. But I have heard that allergy tests are often inaccurate anyway. One of the things, besides the online info, that made me want to try the diet is, my...

    ARCHIVED Biotin?

Hi Lovebetter, and welcome to the forum! There have been studies linking PPP (and all psoriasis) to food intolerances. My PPP was getting really bad, and I decided to try gluten free to see if it helped. It did at first, but then it came back when I ate gluten free cornbread. It turns out that I am HIGHLY intolerant of corn, as well as gluten. Now it...
  14. I have an unrelated medical problem which causes me considerable pain. I have been unable to find ibuprophen that contains neither gluten nor corn. The pain has been flaring pretty badly lately, and I HAD to take something for it. I have "corned" myself for the past two weeks, just to find some relief. Of course, that has made my psoriasis flare up worse...
  15. Please forgive me, but when I saw the title of your thread, my first thoughts were, "In traffic jams. At loud concerts. When I'm babysitting my friend's kids." Sorry. But seriously, I never got much in the way of headaches when I was going through gluten withdrawal. Any headaches I get are like they always were - behind my eyes, or occasionally, on one...
  16. Ooh, lemongrass! Thanks, I never thought of that! I'm going to try that tomorrow! Another thing I'm going to try is using my brown rice in place of pasta. I've never been a big pasta fan anyway. I usually ask for rice instead of linguini, for example, when I get shrimp scampi. So, I'm thinking, why not put some home made spaghetti sauce with meatballs...
  17. I often use chicken broth instead of water, and I add parsley and rosemary sometimes too. It's gotten to the point that I really enjoy my rice, and the smell of the fast food I used to live on nauseates me now.
  18. Check out pictures of the various types of psoriasis. That is what I have, and it seems that gluten, corn and almonds will make it flare. For those short periods of time when I was able to avoid all three, it cleared up completely. I know it will take a while to figure out what ELSE causes it, but I know that SOMEDAY, it'll be gone for good!
  19. I only eat brown rice because of the possibility of "corntamination" with the white. I usually use Minute brand brown rice (because that's all my grocery store carries) and it's great.
  20. It'll be OK. I too hate to cook, and I used to hate grocery shopping too. (Now I almost enjoy it - every time I find something I can eat I celebrate.) Just start with while foods. Buy some chicken breasts (the kind with the bones and skin still attatched). Then go to your local dollar store and buy some of those disposable aluminum pans to cook it in...
  21. Yes, and I also told a lot of folks about this forum. I think we may get a few new folks stopping by. There was one lady I met who has crohn's disease, and was wondering if she had Celiac. It sounds to me like she does. I told her to come here for the best information available. As a matter of fact, during the question and answer part of the pharmacist...
  22. Well, I went to the Gluten Free Festival in Rapid City yesterday. There were over a dozen restaurants represented, and they were all serving gluten free food items. Even with my corn intolerance, I ate enough that the $12 admission was well worth it. There were mini seminars all day. The one I was most interested in was the talk by the compounding pharmasist...
  23. The problem with canned fruit is that most of it is processed with corn. They use a "citric acid" wash, and although you'd think citric acid comes from citrus fruit, somehow they get it from corn. That's why I can't eat bananas or white potatoes (unless they are "new" potatoes)- because they are GASSED with ethyline - the potatoes to keep them from sprouting...
  24. Well, when I first went gluten free, my psoriasis and insomnia started improving right away. Then I discovered that corn does me in too. Now, it seems that raw almonds are a no-no. I have had digestive problems with salad greens (oil and vinnegar) and sweet potatoes. I have no idea what that's all about. So it seems the only time I sleep well, have...
  25. BB, is the stuff on your hands on your PALMS, and does it look the same as the rash in other places on your body? I ask because I have palmoplantar pustular psoriasis. It is on my palms and on my feet. You could look up pictures and see if yours looks the same. My psoriasis started clearing up in a matter of days, once I started the diet. Unfortunately...
