Dental Floss
bartfull replied to TGK112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope you didn't take offence, TGK112. If so I sincerely apologize. Sometimes my mouth (or typing fingers) engage before my brain. -
CeliacSharon beat me to it. Coconut oil. You can use it as a mask overnight, then wash it off in the morning. Maybe use a little bit in the morning too and after it soaks in a bit, apply your make-up as usual.

ARCHIVED Super Itchy Rash Going On 4 Years Now
bartfull replied to Chefwife8's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Chefwife8, please, listen to SquirmingItch. She knows what she's talking about. Our "friend" Mitchgam is totally mistaken and unfortunately he holds on tight to his false beliefs and refuses to listen to reason. If you have any doubts about that, read his posts here: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user... -
ARCHIVED Remission
bartfull replied to TGK112's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, remission is not the same as cured. -

And if you want unwaxed but can only find the waxed kind, you could always strip it off with a pair of zercon encrusted tweezers. (Sorry, I'll behave now.) -

Yes, Mitchgam, she IS right. Perhaps all of them WERE wrong. Or perhaps you have MISUNDERSTOOD what all of the doctors you have gone to said. You have been repeatedly shown the science and research from reputable sources on this topic, yet you still persist in repeating this FALSE idea. From everything you have said in previous posts, you do NOT have... -

I never even would have considered it. It's wax put on something grown in Montana. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smZA9Jv3qH0&list=RDsmZA9Jv3qH0 -
You'll have to (probably) go through gluten withdrawal first. Headaches, mood swings, unsatiable hunger. It lasted a couple of weeks for me. Then at about three weeks I started feeling better and noticed my celiac symptoms lessening.

ARCHIVED Joint Pain
bartfull replied to julie nelson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I dropped nightshades and most of my joint pain went away, but I had terrible trouble with my wrist and it was getting worse. I've been on glucosamine for a week now and it really seems to be helping. I just started a separate thread about it with the details.- 8 replies

I had stopped eating nightshades a couple of months ago because I was getting joint pain. My back pain went away but my left wrist seemed to be getting worse. I started taking glucosamine chondroitin complex one week ago today. Yesterday the writst seemed better finally. Still painful and still had trouble playing guitar (and I make my living with my guitar...

ARCHIVED Do You Make Homemade Waffles?
bartfull replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes, I WILL be around when that pendulum swings back. But I'll be standing in the wrong place and it'll knock me in the head. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge- What Can I Eat?
bartfull replied to AmeliaB100's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Doughnuts. Eat LOTS of doughnuts. Eat raised doughnuts. Eat old fashioneds. Eat them chocolate covered and glazed. Eat some crullers and some jelly doughnuts. Eat some doughnut holes. Eat some with powdered sugar. Eat some Boston cream doughnuts. Eat every doughnut that comes to hand and please, think of me while you're doing it. -
ARCHIVED Do You Make Homemade Waffles?
bartfull replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Speaking of waffles, all I can find now are the Belgian waffle irons. I like the waffles with the smaller holes better. No, I haven't looked online yet, but it makes me feel old. It seems that all of my favorite things are being replaced with stuff OTHER people like better. (grump, grump, grump.) -
ARCHIVED Dry Cat Food
bartfull replied to Stacy0w's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If it's working then it's working. I can't get gluten-free cat food here so my little one gets Purina Organic. I handle it pretty much the way you describe and I haven't gotten sick yet. -

How about you get her another dish and have the boyfriend fill it ahead of time so all you have to do is pick up the empty dish and replace it with the full one? That way you don't risk breathing in the dust and all you'll have to do is wash your hands. -
ARCHIVED Diarrhea For Over A Month While Gluten Free?
bartfull replied to Firsttimemama2014's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OK, other than the cast iron I would put money on dairy being a problem. Lots of celiacs have trouble with dairy at first because the part of us (the villi) that is damaged is the part that digests dairy. Get your new pans and go completely off dairy for a while and see of that doesn't do the trick. Most of us get dairy back after we've healed (six months... -
I never thought about penicillin being made on bread. I don't know if they still do it that way or not but I do know I have been allergic to it since I was a little kid. I got that from my Dad's side of the family though and it was Mom who had celiac.

ARCHIVED Diarrhea For Over A Month While Gluten Free?
bartfull replied to Firsttimemama2014's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So have you gotten a diagnosis of celiac or have you just concluded that's what you have? I am self-diagnosed and my doctor agreed that with the family history (my Mom had an official diagnosis) and the results of the diet that I do indeed have celiac, but I was never tested. No insurance, you know? -

bartfull replied to Firsttimemama2014's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, cast iron is porous and if gluten was cooked in it before it is contaminated. They say if you put your cast iron in the oven on the cleaning setting (if you have an electric oven with that feature) it will kill the gluten. Then just reseason it. Were these the same symptoms you had before going gluten-free? -

Hunt's is a Con-Agra product. Con Agra is GREAT about labeling. Hunt's is safe. -
I invite ALL of you to come on out this summer. The Black Hills are (IMO) the most beautiful place in America. You can see Mt. Rushmore, the Needles Highway, Spearfish Canyon, Hot Brook Canyon, The Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park with bison, elk, deer (both mule deer and white tails), antelope, mountain goats, big horn sheep, coyotes, foxes, prairie dogs...

Could be getting it at school. Play-Doh is full of gluten. Some schools do "projects" using flour too. Or it could be kids sitting next to him at lunch and getting gluten crumbs on his food. Or sharing snacks like chips which are gluten-free but are contaminated by gluteny fingers reaching into the bag.
