  1. As bad as it is to be surrounded by gluten crumbs, I think being surrounded by gluten crumbs (the human kind) must be even worse. When the people who are supposed to love us show such a total lack of caring it is heartbreaking. My heart goes out to you. It sounds like your life hasn't been easy lately (understatement), and your family is making it worse....
  2. I don't OWN a dress, nor a skirt. Of course bloating isn't one of my symptoms or I might. One of the very BEST things about living where I do is that nobody dresses up for anything. Church - nope. Concerts - nope. Parties - nope. Dinner - nope. There is a really cool museum/archiological site here that has a wine and cheese fundraiser every year...
  3. I have often wondered why they don't vitamin fortify gluten-free bread. Then when I have a sandwich I wouldn't feel so guilty eating empty calories. Then again, before going gluten-free, I used to wonder why they didn't vitamin fortify potato chips for the same reason.
  4. Ashley, go to the "Newbie 101" thread and read and heed all that you see there. Then read as much as you can in other threads, especially the ones under "coping with". There is a lot to learn, including the fact that not everything labeled gluten-free actually IS gluten-free. Stick with whole foods for a few months - plain meats, fresh fruits and vegetables...
  5. When we first start the gluten-free diet, many of us have quite a bit of damage that heeds to be healed. LOTS of foods can be hard on a damaged gut so it is best to stick to simple whole foods (meat, fruit, and vegetables) and stay away from processed foods. You may be reacting to some of the chemicals in the bacon right now. Give yourself time to heal and...
  6. It's different for everybody. We all have a different "load" we can tolerate. Maybe (this is just a guess) give it three months? Then you can try a small amout of your favorite medium sals food. If you have no reaction, wait a week and try something else. Sals build up in your system so if you eat a medium sals food every day you will be right back where...
  7. Floaters and flashers can also be a sign of glaucoma.
  8. I had their English muffins way back when and I used them like bread. They are so thick you can get three or four slices out of them I thought they were delicious. And yes, I reacted to them, but I knew it was the corn starch that caused my problem. I couldn't eat any breads at all for a while because of the corn. But now I can tolerate corn starch...
  9. Or it might be a bug. I thought I had gotten glutened a month or so ago, but it turned out there was a bug going around and all of my non-celiac friends had the exact same symptoms I had.
  10. Pullieq2, have you read the "newbie 101" thread? Check it out. And for quick and easy meals for yourself, use a crockpot and freeze the leftovers in seperate zoplock bags. You can pull one out of the freezer and microwave it at mealtime. That way there are no leftovers for your guys to cross-contaminate. I like to cook my rice, add meat and some sort...
  11. Thanks for the hugs and positive thoughts, L.J. and Squirming. As bad as I have it, I think you two have a much more uncomfortable problem with the DH. My heart goes out to you both, and anyone else suffering from DH. It sounds to me like the very worst symptom our wonderful disease can cause. Yeah, it IS frustrating getting hit all the time. After...
  12. I am sure it's not environmental Shadow, because when I am strictly on my original 11 safe foods the psoriasis clears up completely. It's only when I branch out and try something new that I get in trouble. And the insomnia always comes with it. And my feet swell. And I get grumpy. And my jaw swells and hurts so bad I sometimes whimper. Kinda like right now...
  13. Nah, if he was in a pool where someone dropped sandwich crumbs and those crumbs got up his nose, he would be the UNluckiest guy. I was just trying to think of ways someone MIGHT get glutened from pool water, and seriously, we DID sometimes drop crumbs in the pool. Boy did we get in trouble for it too. The filter would take out solid bits, but the bread...
  14. THANK YOU!!
  15. I know this sounds crazy, but you can google it and see - the BEST place to put Vicks when you have a cold is on the soles of your feet! Seriously. I don't know why but it works better than on your chest.
  16. Sometimes there are false negatives. And sometimes folks have non-celiac gluten intolerance. The only diagnosis for that is response to the gluten-free diet. I think it wouldn't hurt you to try going STRICTLY gluten-free for a couple of months. If your symptoms improve, you will know you either have celiac or intolerance. And if you have trouble with your...
  17. Hi L.J! Actually for the most part, I couldn't be called a farty-pants. My digestive symptoms are fairly mild. My worst symptoms are psoriasis and insomnia. I also have a lump in my jaw that swells up and become EXTREMELY painful when I get glutened, plus assorted other symptoms like swelling feet and ankles, and extreme grumpiness. My psoriasis is...
  18. OK. A lot of times there really aren't a lot of drippings in the pan when I am cooking small meals for myself. Can I just add water and scrape up the crusty bits, then cook 'em? When I make pork chops or even chicken breasts, I usually only cook two at a time and there just isn't much left in the pan. I don't usually season either of those things, although...
  19. Can you send me some of that gravy? My Mom made the best gravy in the world, and even though (I think) I do it just like she did, mine always comes out flavorless. All you can taste in mine is the cornstarch. (YUCK!) I have tried everything! Someone said I need to "cook" the drippings longer. I did and it didn't work. Some have told me to use bullion...
  20. Lst year I attended the community Thanksgiving dinner our American Legion puts on every year. Everything is homemade from scratch and it is all SO GOOD! All of my friends go there now too. Of course I brought all of my own sides, but I did risk the turkey, which wasn't stuffed. Bad mistake. I think the turkey was injected with something that had corn in it...
  21. I think they assumed, just as I did, that sea salt was high in iodine. Actually they do ADD iodine to some sea salts, just as they do to regular salt, but even the Mayo Clinic says sea salt is low in iodine, as do most other websites I checked. Open Original Shared Link I'm not saying you should run out and get some, but if you can find some that is...
  22. I should have mentioned that most of these foods that I can't tolerate don't cause much in the way of digestive symptoms. They cause psoriasis flares. I STILL don't know if each time I get a psoriasis flare I am also damaging my gut. I hate this! I need my hands!
  23. Just a thought - when I was a kid we had a pool. A lot of times we would have lunch around the pool. Sometimes bread crumbs from our sandwiches would drop into the pool. Sometimes we would get pool water up our noses. Far fetched I know, but it COULD happen, couldn't it?
  24. Actually, sea salt doesn't have much if any iodine either. One would think that it does, but I looked it up when I couldn't tolerate white potatoes because I was LOOKING for a source of iodine. I think there was a thread here recently talking about all of the additives in salt, some of which are not good for us. I get pure sea salt at my healthfood store...
  25. Hi Acid Ghost. Nah, all of us creative musician types are edgy and irritable like that. Take heart - at least you're not a banjo player. That was just a joke, by the way. A non-musician friend of mine works in the music department of a major US university, and after she had been working there for a while she told me she understood me now. She...
