  1. I used to feel that way about meat. I could eat all the fruits and veggies my stomach would hold, but unless I had meat, I still felt hungry, even though my stomach was full. After I went gluten-free I thought, "Hmm, it wasn't the lack of meat that gave me that hungry feeling, it must've been the bread!" Because even when I had a big dinner with meat and...
  2. I looked at the chart with the brands and I noticed there was no instant rice listed. I'm wondering if it might be because instant rice is pre-cooked so maybe the water they cook it in rinses off some of the arsenic? And then I read in the Mother Jones article that there is arsenic in chicken! Guess what I mostly eat? Chicken and rice! And on top of...
  3. I believed my hands and feet were suffing with some kind of contact dermatitis. I believed my digestive problems stemmed from alcohol over-indulgence. I believed my insomnia was due to being a night person. I believed my thinning hair was genetic. I believed my brain fog was from getting older. And even though I knew that with celiac in my family the...
  4. Yes, it is normal. Sorry. Until you heal you will most likely react to lots of different foods. Many of us had to reduce our diets to just a few very bland foods at first. It'll get better, I promise.
  5. The young lady with celiac that I met last week experienced something similar. She had always had mild symptoms and thought it was normal. Then one day she got such serious D and vomiting which wouldn't stop that she was hospitalized. She didn't even have the strength to hang her head for the vomiting so someone had to hold her head so she wouldn't choke...
  6. Nope. It's not Pampered Chef, it's "Celebrating Home". The cookware is stoneware but it has a "non-stick" glaze. It's not Teflon or anything. It looks like any glazed pottery but it holds either heat from the oven or cold from the freezer for at least three hours so you can bring stuff to a party and it'll stay the right temperature. And you do wash it so...
  7. For me, I think it was when my mother (from celiac complications), my best friend (heart), a great co-worker(auto accident), and a beloved nephew (auto accident) all died within two months of each other. Or it could have actually started when my Dad died. That was when I stopped taking care of myself. I wanted to die too. I knew I had problems with my...
  8. I actually like the Canyon Bakehouse the best but because it has cornmeal in it, it doesn't agree with me. I did finally try Rudi's (same problem), but even though it tastes a lot like Canyon Bakehouse, it fell apart. So for texture, I prefer the CBH.
  9. I have company from the East Coast this week. When they got in on Wednesday at suppertime I decided to be brave and take them to a local restaurant. I only ate at a restaurant once since I got sick and that was at the beginning. But I figured it was time so I called ahead. The only thing I could safely eat was the steak because it is cooked on the char-broiler...
  10. In my state you can't order from the compounding pharmacy on your own. You have to have a prescription. My doctor prescribes Tylenol with no gluten, corn, or soy. They make it, and I use it with no problems. Yes, it is expensive, but when I'm in pain it's nice to be able to take something for it without worrying. Of course now that I can finally tolerate...
  11. It was one of those home parties where they sell stuff. This one has a lot of cookware and they cook right there to demonstrate what the cookware can do. The representative didn't eat, and when she told the hostess that she COULDN'T, the hostess replied, "Oh, you must have celiac like Bartfull." She does. She is new to it and was very sick, hospitalized...
  12. Most of the ones in the store have corn starch.
  13. Trudyjerry, you NEED vegetables, and to some extent fruits. I was having the same problem with them at first and my nutritioninst told me it was because my system was so damaged I was reacting to pesticides and chemical fertilizers. She suggested I go completely organic, and it worked. Grocery store sweet potatoes went through me like water within a couple...
  14. All of the veterans on this board have knowledge that has helped me, but IrishHeart also has a way with words that helps get her message through so clearly and so COMPASSIONATELY! You might just say she is a "celiac whisperer". I owe her my health, and even my sanity. So yeah, thanks Irish. You are the BEST!!!
  15. It took 14 months for me. I lost a lot of foods along the way and got down to 11 foods I could eat safely, and two of those foods were butter and salt! But I am now successfully adding things back. Give yourself another six to eight months to heal and you may be able to add things back and stop losing things too. I think I had undiagnosed celiac for about...
  16. I think I mentioned here before how I handle it. Of course it won't work with your roommate because he/she already knows you are self-diagnosed. But in future you might consider how I (also self-diagnosed) deal with it: I say, "When I was diagnosed with celiac..." That way I'm not really lying because I was diagnosed - by myself. And if people take it...
  17. Wendy, when you need a painkiller, what do you use? If you use asperin and it doesn't bother you, chances are you don't have salicylate sensitivity. Even ibuprofen and naproxen usually bother sals sensitive people, so if you use those with no problem, you should be OK.
  18. Yes, cilantro is from the coriander plant. It is listed as high in sals. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
  19. Yep. I am a fan of Kraft foods. I trust them, and I like the quality of their products.
  20. Sorry, I just couldn't resist. I admit I am a dinosaur. I read a lot and get my books either at the library or at yard sales. Then I have a yard sale of my own to "recycle" them. If I traveled anymore I'd probably have one of those "new-fangled" reading devices too, but now that I've found my paradise, I won't be going anywhere so I don't need one.
  21. "I wish they had a better system for doing that..." Have you tried the books in your public library?
  22. Wow. Those logs are full of all sorts of nasty chemicals. I think gluten would be the least of your problems. If she doesn't improve you may need to take her to the doctor or ER. She may have heavy metal poisoning. There may be benzene, which causes leukemia. I don't want to scare you, but seriously, I think she should see a doctor.
  23. I lost so many foods at first! It took a year, but I am now adding quite a few of them back successfully. Give yourself time to heal and you too will probabaly be able to.
  24. Mitzi, I think youhave her pegged right. If they eat out a lot, she probably doesn't want to even THINK about celiac because then she would have to start cooking. When I see how some of the parents on this board have left no stone unturned in the quest to see their child well, and then I hear about parents like this, it makes me sad that their parents...
  25. I guess everything is a combination of good and bad. They even did a study a few years ago that proved smokers are less likely to get alzheimers. Seriously. Of course that is probably because smokers don't live long enough to get it, but every time I light up and my friends rag me about going outside to do some lung cancer research, I just tell them...
