    ARCHIVED Corn?

Corn has been a real problem for me. It is in EVERYTHING! There are several corn allergy forums on the web that you should research. Even though we have an intolerance to corn rather than a true allergy, there are a lot of intolerant folks on their forums, and you will find lists of foods and ingredients to watch out for. Corn is not one of the "top...
  2. Bunnie, I WISH our roads here were plowed as well as they were in Connecticut! In my town they don't plow if there is less than four inches on the road, and if it falls on a weekend they don't plow at all! (They don't want to pay the overtime.) The state roads get plowed, but none of the city streets. And they don't use salt at all. That's good for the cars...
  3. And read this:
  4. You need to read this thread. You will learn so much:
  5. Has anyone who has gotten foods back after healing become intolerant to them again after a glutening? SOMETHING has gotten me and I'm not quite sure what. I thought it was cross-contaminated rice but now I'm not sure. I was pretty sure it was gluten (my first time since going gluten-free) because I had digestive symptoms. I usually only get psoriasis and...
  6. Oh Razzle, I hope it turns out to be something else! I have read about plastic allergies and I DON'T want you to have that! I'll be praying for you. (((HUGS)))
  7. Other than the food (especially seafood) and my friends, the thing I miss most about New England is the leaves in the fall. Not only the color, but what I miss most is the SMELL. A friend actually sends me a box of leaves each fall so I can smell them! It won't be fall here in South Dakota for quite a while yet. It's still HOT!! Today it's only in the...
  8. The withdrawal can definitely cause depression but so can celiac! I hate to see anyone go on medications that have side effects and almost all meds do, espeically meds for depression. Could I suggest you just give the diet more time? You might well find that as you heal, your depression will lift. (((HUGS))) to you.
  9. SOME Stevia does have corn in it. The stuff in packets at coffee shops has corn to keep it from clumping. And SOME stevia has corn from ethanol which is used in extracting it from the leaf. From Wiki: Rebaudioside A has the least bitterness of all the steviol glycosides in the stevia plant. To produce rebaudioside A commercially, stevia plants are dried...
  10. I've never used their flours but I can tell you that their bread is inedible. Texture like sawdust and the NASTIEST foul taste! I bought some when I first started and after two bites I threw the loaf away. I thought I would be stuck with that horrible stuff or no bread at all and it broke my heart. Believe me, no bread at all would be better than that! ...
  11. OK, picture pure "flavoring". It doesn't take much. In order to put it into a food you must have enough of it to "spread around" evenly in that food. If you just put a drop into each item it will be concentrated in the area you dropped it in and won't be evenly distributed. So they usually put it in corn starch and those now flavored grains of corn starch...
  12. I had a cat once who loved cooked spinach. And if Mom was baking sauerkraut, he would march back and forth in front of the oven door until it was done an we fed him some. My current kitty has dried food available at all times and gets one small teaspoon of canned food each morning and again each evening. But I still give her treats on occasion - maybe...
  13. It's hard to tell, but I MIGHT be that she hasn't been feeling quite right and decided to try gluten-free to see if it helped. Without being scrupulous about her diet of course she has been eating gluten and maybe not realizing it. So she still doesn't feel quite right and is looking for other reasons (the latex allergy). The thing is, a lot of celiac...
  14. I am so lucky! In the eight+ years I have lived in the Black Hills I have been bitten by a mosquito exactly twice! I used to get all swollen from them too. It's been about five years since I have been bitten so I don't know if gluten-free has helped or not. I used to react even worse to gnat bites. The bitten area would swell like a balloon. If I got a...
  15. "Natural flavoring" is USUALLY carried on corn. That's why Stevia is no good for folks with corn intolerance.
  16. "I just worry about my fur family if something should happen to me and no one knows." Me too. After 9/11 when I heard people talking about not being able to get back to their apartments for several days, and saying they were sure their pets must be out of food and water by now, I started making sure my cat had enough food and water to last at least a week...
  17. Do you live near a Mayo clinic? I know some are better than others but the one in Rochester Minnesota is the best. I have known people who had things nobody else could figure out and when they went to Mayo, THEY found out. AND they take payments.
  18. Thank you so much! The only thing I will have to do is make my own applesauce because golden delicious are the only apples I can eat. And I'll be leaving the raisins out because I don't like them. But I haven't had a piece of cake in well over a year and I'm really looking forward to this. Thanks again!
  19. "I thought it was because she wanted to play that lady's piano."
  20. I read about anatto when I first started. It does sometimes cause allergic reactions but they didn't speak of autoimmune reactions. However, I won't eat the stuff. It RUINS cheese in my opinion. Buy a block of cracker barrel white cheddar and one or the orange cheddar. Slice some and then have someone blindfold you and feed you a slice of each. I'm sure that...
  21. Is this the numbering system of which you speak? Open Original Shared Link
  22. My step-daughter lives in Cranston. Maybe I can get her to send me something.
  23. My advice? NEVER feed your cat first thing in the morning or she will start waking you up REALLY early! Wait until you've been up for a couple of hours at least. Also, when your cat starts walking between your legs or flopping down in front of you as you walk, NEVER stop and pet her. If you do, she will continue to be a tripping hazzard for the rest...
  24. So I found some vitamins that I can take - Solaray Twice Daily Multi-energy. These are the ingredients on my bottle: Gelatin capsule, Eleuthero root, Cellulose, Magnesium stearate, Sodium alginate, Silica, Whole rice concentrate (including bran, polishings and germ), Carrot juice powder. I went online and found it for sale on many websites. And the ones...
  25. Oh my. I am going to try these using cashew butter. I must be feeling brave lately - I'm going to take a chance in the kitchen. You know, that room I never go into except to pass through it on my way out the back door. Do they make sunflower seed butter? Those are the only nuts/seeds I can eat in abundance. ________________________________________...
