Remind me to check the brand of sea salt I get. It has nothing added to it at all. (I can't remember the brand but it comes in a clear plastic bag with pale turquios, dark blue, and red writing. It also says it is not heated or something to that effect.)

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, And Soy-Free?
bartfull replied to freedomseek00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can have dairy but no gluten, soy, or corn. I snack on Sesmark rice crackers. (They happen to have no dairy either.) And they are REALLY REALLY good. I used to love them even before I went gluten-free. Kettle Brand Sea Salt potato chips are good. Planters nuts will always be gluten-free unless stated otherwise. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins Not Digesting
bartfull replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Before I went gluten-free I had undigested vegetables in my stool every day. For YEARS. If I ate a salad the night before it looked the same the next morning as it did when I ate it (minus the bowl of course). It seemed the only thing I could digest was meat and bread. Even french fries would show up the next morning. Going gluten-free changed all that and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Broken Heart....
bartfull replied to kristenloeh's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Exercise. Reading. Friends. Movies. New hobbies. It doesn't HAVE to be food. The last breakup I had (after I found out he had been cheating on me, so there was anger mixed in with the heartbreak), I LOST my appetite. I filled my days with the above, and when I couldn't sleep at night I just got up and read or played my guitar until I finally felt sleepy... -
ARCHIVED How To Judge Recovery And Xc With Inconsistent Symptoms
bartfull replied to user853's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's a tough one. They say it takes longer to get rid of neurological symptoms than any of the others so the tingling will probably get better with time. You MAY develop digestive symptoms after you have been away from gluten for a while too. I never had much in the way of digestive symptoms either, but 15 months after going gluten-free I got glutened and... -
Luvnascar, welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear you are so sick. When I first started I develpoed a severe intolerance to corn too. And soy. And nightshades. And salicylates. AND pesticides and chemical fertilizers. You are on the right track eating organic. Your system is, as my nutritionist put it, "in hyperdrive". You are reacting to almost everything...

Steph, I got glutened almost three weeks ago now by a different brand of rice which turned out to be cross contaminated. I haven't been right since. It has been getting progressively worse instead of better no matter what I eat (except for the yogurt). Takala, I've been eating chicken lately but I had pork chops before that and they did the same thing...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Dining & Traveling With Other Allergies
bartfull replied to amahones's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
First, I would like to warn you that just because cross contamination with things like peanuts hasn't been a problem YET, it could become a problem at any time. So because I care about your health and your life, I would advise you to be MUCH more careful with the things you have an allergic reaction to. The next time you eat something from a facility that... -
Oh yeah, another thing you might want to consider (especially if it's a flavor you really like) is to have them open a new tub and then have them hand pack a quart or more so you can take it home.
-
I have worked in ice cream parlors in the past and I know that very often when putting the scoop of ice cream on the cone, crumbs from the cone fall into the tub. A clean scoop won't protect against that. An brand new tub is the only thing that will protect you. Ice cream WILL go bad once it has been opened if it sits around long enough. So what you...

I ate the rice yesterday because the sweet potato the day before made me sick. I never had any trouble with Uncle Ben's rice before. I have been eating it regularly for the past 15 months. I'm leaning toward candida. The yogurt made me feel better and I haven't had any problem since I ate it yesterday. Today I am going to eat a bit of yogurt before trying...

ARCHIVED Allergic To Scented Candles?
bartfull replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have asthma and am very sensitive to scents. But I don't have any problem with PartyLite candles. Their only scent that has ever bothered me is "Spruce in the Snow". I am NOT a PartLite dealer by the way. I just love their stuff and I go to their parties often. It's expensive stuff, but my house looks and smells so good. I also have some beeswax candles... -
I assumed it was something food related because my psoriasis keeps flaring too. I felt better this morning and I vowed to eat nothing all day. Then I remembered the healthfood store has Stoneyfield yogurt that I can eat. I had a friend run down and pick up two large containers for me. I ate half a container and still felt OK. But later I got really hungry...

ARCHIVED No Gluten, No Corn, No Soy, No Dairy.
bartfull replied to AnnJay's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Except for the dairy, I share your intolerances. I do not eat out at all. -
ARCHIVED Going Out For Drinks - Help
bartfull replied to Minstinguette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Most bars have one "gun" with several different buttons for the sodas and tonic waters. ANYTHING that comes out of that gun will be cross contaminated. -
Aussie, do you have any problems with corn? Here in the US most cans are now being lined with plastic made from corn. They used to use plastic with those BPA's you may have heard about. They were really bad for people so someone found a way to make plastic with corn. Better for the general population, but sheer hell for those of us with corn intolerance.

ARCHIVED Foood..going To A Ren Faire
bartfull replied to 123glldd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to go to King Richard's Faire on Cape Cod. I LOVED it! We went every year. The jousting matches were my favorite part. ("KILL, KILL, HATE, HATE, MURDER, MURDER, MUTILATE!!") But they would not let anyone bring in food from outside at all. I don't know if they've changed their policy though. It's been years since I've been. -
Thanks, JNBunnie. I just looked up their ingredients and it looks like the original caplet does not contain corn. I'm going to go get some when I close the shop tonight.

I don't feel sick to my stomach or anything, just running to the bathroom every few minutes. I remember now that sweet potatoes from the grocery store used to do this to me. Organic ones did not. This one was from the grocery store. It looks like the glutening I got a couple of weeks ago has knocked me back to square one. That means I will be eating Uncle...
-
This is going to be a quick one. I can't stay out of the bathroom. I just ate a little chicken and a sweet potato and it has gone right through me. I never had these kinds of symptoms before. Is it STILL from the CC'ed rice I had a couple of weeks ago? And why is it getting worse now? I haven't eaten anything BUT chicken and sweet potatoes for several days...

ARCHIVED Gluten Nightmares- Literally!
bartfull replied to Pauliewog's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I dreamed the other night that I was at MacDonalds. I ordered the quarter pounder with cheese meal. They gave me the burger and said they would bring the fries out to my table when they were done. On the way to my table an old lady said she wanted some fries too so they gave her MY fries. I went into another room and found some fries there, and there was... -
ARCHIVED Wheatgrass
bartfull replied to caboheidi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And even if they harvest it before it sprouts, the equipment they harvest with is contaminated from harvesting the other stuff, so it is being "glutenized". -
ARCHIVED Coffee
bartfull replied to Mrs. C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All of the corn allergy forums warn that there is corn in coffee. I don't know WHY there should be corn in coffee, but I think they are talking about something in the roasting process. I think if you grind your coffee in the grinders at the grocery store there might be a chance of CC. But grinding it at home would solve that problem and it'll taste better... -
ARCHIVED Will This Ever End?
bartfull replied to bossley's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know how you feel! I have often wished I could just get my nutrition intraveinoulsy so I never had to eat at all. But right now I'm living on organic sweet potaotes and well washed meat. Those two things are where most of my nutrition is coming from. I used to really love sweet potatoes but when you eat them every single day you tend to get sick of them... -
ARCHIVED Will This Ever End?
bartfull replied to bossley's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bossley, here is something I posted on a different thread just yesterday. If you need any more advice about corn I'll be more than glad to help. "Corn has been a real problem for me. It is in EVERYTHING! There are several corn allergy forums on the web that you should research. Even though we have an intolerance to corn rather than a true allergy, there...
