  1. According to what I have read, white potatoes are high in lectins and they don't bother me. I haven't tried any winter squash yet because I don't like them. It's tough because I never really liked vegetables much. Broccoli, cauliflowers, eggplant, and summer squash are the only ones I ever liked besides corn (which I will never eat again.) I forgot, I...
  2. There is a place near here (Near being relative - it's about 50 miles away) that does a killer gluten-free pizza, or so I've been told. I actually spoke to the owner who has a celiac family member and I know it is safe. I haven't tried it yet because I am scared to try tomato sauce. BUT!!! My healthfood store sells gluten-free pizza crust. (I think it...
  3. The latest thing I have reacted to is nettle tea. I assumed it must be high in sals, but then I read where it is used to COUNTERACT high sals foods. I DO react to a lot of high sals foods, but not all. I can eat a great big sweet potato with broccoli every day and have no reaction. That should be a no-no. So I looked up amines and oxalates. Nope. A...
  4. Well, I finally got around to trying it. I thought it tasted pretty good. I bought loose tea and made it in my french press. And this morning I woke up to a psoriasis flare! Probably salicylate related. This really stinks. Every time I find something good for me, I find out it's bad for me. Being that today is "National Grouch Day", I must say...
  5. I am one of those people. It absolutely STINKS! Not only can't I eat a lot of the foods that are so good for me, but I am still reacting to supplements. It's really hard to get enough nutrition this way. Check out salicylatesensitivity.com for more info. And I wish you the best of luck.
  6. I found Humbolt Creamery online but not their cottage cheese. I suppose you could go to their website and click the "contact" button, or better yet, if there is a phone number on the carton, call them. I use Daisy Brand cottage cheese when I have cottage cheese. There are no additives at all. Welcome to the forum by the way. I hope you can figure...
  7. Bart was my dog. When he was bad I called him Bartless. When he was good I called him Bartfull. A lot of folks here mistook me for a man named Bart at first. I almost changed my name to "Bart's Mom", but then they would have thought I had a son with celiac. Let's just say I like to keep people as confused as I am!
  8. Might be the dairy in the cheese or the soy. Many of us react to these things. With me, the first few weeks I was fine with corn for example, and then three weeks in I started to react to it, so even if he was fine with dairy and soy at first, he might be reacting to them now.
  9. Well, I just looked up avocado AND walnut allergy and found this: Open Original Shared Link I am not familiar with this site so I'm not sure how reliable their info is, but it seems there are two types of allergies to avocado, and one of them makes nut allergies more likely.
  10. Might one say that GFin is a "farty-pants"? (Now where is that emoticon that shows someone running away?)
  11. I guess it's not so much what you say, as how you say it that made me think you were irritated. I have often found myself offending people by being too blunt, when I never meant anything by it. A friend told me that if I preface what I say with, "In my opinion..." or "It seems to me..." that I could tell them what I think without seeming like I thought MY...
  12. Tom? Have you been glutened recently? I ask because irritability is one of MY glutening symptoms. Seems that lately you have been feeling the way I do when I get glutened.
  13. What a JERK! Ask him to suffer the way you have suffered! Ask him to go gluten-free and see if it's no big deal! And then take him some literature about celiac crisis and ask him if DYING from celiac is no big deal! And then fire the #*%@*#*!!!!!
  14. Where does she work? Maybe there is something on her clothes, or maybe it's her laundry detergent.
  15. Call ahead and tell them you need to bring your own food for her. Then get her something she really likes, maybe a gluten-free pizza to bring. If they say no, I would find a different place to go watch a movie!

    ARCHIVED I

Mr. Happy, I'm so happy for you! Isn't it great that with an adjustment in our diets we can cure most of what has ailed us for so long? I suggest you go to the thread, "Newbie 101" to learn more about cross-contamination and what to expect down the line. I imagine you will have some setbacks as you learn about being gluten-free (we all do), but I also...
  17. L.J., I haven't responded to you yet because I don't have DH (Thank God!) and didn't feel I had anything to contribute. But I just wanted to say hello and to let you know that your personality shines through and that you seem to be one heck of a great person. I wish you all the best!
  18. Coffee is fine as Shadow said, as long as it's not flavored. You may want to drink it black for a while (it's better that way anyway, imo). Some of us have trouble with dairy at first, but even if dairy doesn't bother you, milk or cream in coffee might. It makes the coffee very acidic which might be rough on your damaged digestive system. If you are...
  19. Just a heads up, you may start feeling better even after a few weeks, but after having celiac for so long, you will probably take much longer to completely heal. And believe me, there will be lot's of bumps in the road. You may develop intolerances to other foods (lots of us do) and you may react to things there is no earthly reason anyone should react to...
  20. The hunger will ease. You are going through gluten withdrawal. Try eating a bunch of small meals instead of the usual three a day. Go to the thread, "Newbie 101" to learn more about coping with the diet, avoiding cross-contamination, and lots more. And feel free to ask as many questions as come to mind, to cry on our shoulders, or rant and rave. We have all...
  21. But he sounds so gluten aware, stopping you from using the same spoon like that. Maybe he will start brushing his teeth at work before he comes home so he can kiss you at the door.
  22. Bison steaks have to be cooked S-L-O-W-L-Y, and should always be cooked rare. The first time I had a bison steak, the gormet cook ignored that advice, claiming that if he seared it at a really high temp and then turned the heat down, it would "seal in the juices". It was barely edible. But grinding and seasoning your own sounds good too. Quite often...
  23. I am so lucky to live where the buffalo roam. The bison I get here was raised in either the National Park right up the road, or the State Park a little further up the road. Because they can't let the herds get too big, every year they round them up and sell some of them. The meat locker a few blocks away always buys enough to be able to sell it all year....
  24. Good for you! Temptation all around you but you didn't give in! I have a friend here who isn't so good at resisting temptation. She told me yesterday that for the past SIX MONTHS she has been eating pasta and bread! Her DH is unbearable, her stomach is so bloated she looks pregnant, her diabetes is getting worse, and her eyesight and hearing are too...
  25. To me, there is nothing wrong with being obsessively careful. I tend toward OCD and have always washed my hands more often than most people. As a matter of fact, I miss my psoriasis a little because I no longer have a good excuse not to shake hands. But after I DO shake hands with someone I can't WAIT to go wash them! I've ALWAYS been that way and it has...
